I'm here, flew in to Ontario Kaleefornia today. Lot's of smoke in the air, dust also. Temperatures are forecast in the very high 90's all week with low humidity and zero chance of rain. Haven't got an earthquake forecast yet. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

World Meet Continues in Russia (From USPA web site)
3331 replied to 3331's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
http://www.uspa.org/news/index.htm#081506 (updated 08/17/06) The World Championships of Freefall Style & Accuracy Landing and Canopy Formation began August 12 at DZ Stupino, 100 miles south of Moscow, Russia, with 25 countries entered. In addition to the world championships, the drop zone is hosting the Anton Malevsky International Cup, which included a formation skydiving event. Three 4-way teams from the USA—Fastrax, Synchronicity and Thunder—were part of the field of eleven teams. When the ten-round meet ended August 16, Fastrax had placed third for the bronze medal behind the Russian and French teams. By August 17, two of the four canopy formation events, 4-way rotation and 4-way sequential, had ended with the USA winning the sequential competition. The other two canopy formation events continue with three rounds of each to finish on the last day of competition, August 18. In the freefall style & accuracy landing events, the USA was challenged by very seasoned competition, and only Elisa Feldt and Chris Moore will continue into the tenth and final round of accuracy. But when the freefall style event ended August 16, Feldt had finished third of almost 60 competitors, winning the bronze medal. A huge party with an expected 10,000 spectators will help the skydivers celebrate the end of the competition Saturday, August 19. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving. -
I found out it's a new material for keeping riser covers closed and secure, it will replace tuck tabs. A name for this material was finally decided---it's called v e l c r o. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

July 30, 2006 The IPC Bureau is sorry to announce the resignation of Larry Bagley as Technical Secretary, for personal reasons. The bureau has appointed Liam McNulty to that position. http://www.fai.org/parachuting/ I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

From the USPA web site (08/10/06) http://www.uspa.org/news/index.htm#081006 In view of recent security events and the government’s elevation of the threat level to High for commercial aviation, USPA has checked with the TSA about the status of parachutes as carry-on and checked items. TSA reports that the screening procedure for parachutes has not changed for domestic flights. Parachutes are allowed as either carry-on or checked items. Screeners may only insist on opening parachute containers if a swab results in a positive indication. Travelers on international flights entering or leaving the U.S. should check with their airline on whether carry-on items are allowed. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.

Wear your raciest and trashiest lingerie, spandex, or butt-less chaps.…. Cash Bar / Raffle for a chance to "jump with the girls" – proceeds go to the Cancer Research and Treatment Charity of Benny Sherman's Choice If we raise $500.00 the "jump with the girls" becomes a lingerie dive. $1,000.00 – the winner walks away with a DVD of the dive. If you are interested in participating in 8-way – at least a commitment of 6 jumps for the weekend – or FFI, please e-mail pam_young(AT)comcast.net. Space is available and all experience levels are welcome. You may also visit http://www.skydivethepoint.com/ I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving. -
West Point Virginia is worth the drive from DC. I live in Alexandria Virginia inside the beltway and pass by two DZ's on I-95 South on my way to exit 98 and route 30. From exit 98 it's 45 minutes to West Point. The DZ has a Twin Otter from CSS most of the time and when a Twin Otter is not available we have to tolerate jumping a CASA. Delmarva located in Laurel Delaware--huge landing area, with a living legend on staff "Mike Schultz". Their are Skydivers in the Washington DC area that prefer Delmarva even though three DZ's are much closer. Delmarva is also a dog friendly DZ, just like West Point Virginia. Who makes the most cutting edge, innovative, "techi", best feature rigs?
3331 replied to AEsco48's topic in Gear and Rigging
Since you asked about the Racer I did some research? Teflon cutaway cables: maintenance-free (who really remembers to oil their yellow Lolon cables once a month?) Extendable, non-compressible cutaway housings to resist compression (and the loop being pulled up into the housing), during a difficult cutaway (caused by un-oiled cables or out-of-tolerance 3-rings or spinning malfunctions that result in excessive loop load as the rings themselves twist and side-load) Speed bag to prevent line dump and parachute failures Ergonomically shaped ripcord handle, which reduces the force necessary to pull The most protected ripcord pins in the world (they're against your back). The fastest reserve deployment WITH or WITHOUT rsl. The Skyhook is only as fast as the Racer has always been. The Racer produces 2 second reserve deployments even at low speed without an rsl. Remember, rsl's are not appropriate for everyone (i.e. camera jumpers, CRW jumpers, users of high performance canopies that will send you tumbling and spinning from a cutaway). The Racer pilot chute has the most drag of any reserve parachute in the industry (tested in NASA wind tunnel). Furthermore, the Racer's 3" wide free bag bridle is probably the only bridle with enough drag to actually extract a bag from it's container. Other’s use 2 " bridles. Still haven't figured out why they haven't made that improvement. The Racer's harness is stronger yet lighter because Jump Shack uses better material, (Type 13 for the MLW is 7000 lb tensile strength vs. Type 7 which is 6000 lb tensile strength; Type 13 is slightly thicker and makes all the difference in preventing slippage of webbing in the hardware. Fewer Reserve flaps open wider and more freely after the reserve ripcord is pulled, resulting in quicker bag extraction from container. And who brought line stows to the center of the bag! Jump Shack again. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving. -

The Power Racer--very small, the Elite Racer. Narrow on the shoulder riser covers--very comfortable for women. The Racer Tandem--proven lighter then all the rest. The Racer Trainer just for students. A pull out / throw out handle design for the mature Skydiver with arthritis pain. That's just what I know about. Then there's the main and reserve canopy's manufactured by Jump Shack--one stop shopping for all your needs. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving. -

Skydivers and one drop zone owner in Tennessee are happy again. Skydive Paris has reopened at the Henry County Airport in Paris, TN. Jumping commenced on July 8, more than two years after the airport manager abruptly shut down the DZ because skydivers were allegedly landing too close to the runway. DZO Johnny Reyes doggedly fought back and, supported by USPA, its attorneys, and the Airport Access Defense Fund, took the issue all the way to the top of the FAA by filing a Part 16 formal complaint. The result was a slam-dunk FAA ruling that “there exists a long-standing precedent for affording skydivers the same operational latitude given to an aircraft in flight or while taxiing.” The FAA threatened to withhold the airport’s construction funds if it did not allow skydiving back on the airport. “I can tell you that I had never experienced a greater feeling in my life than when those parachutes opened [on July 8th],” said Reyes. “The support that USPA provided played a key role in our success.” Look for a full report in an upcoming issue of Parachutist. Your better off with a Racer from Jump Shack in Deland I have two Racers and don't want to jump anything else. Yes I've tried the other rig's and owned an Eclipse for a year. Jump Shack also makes the Firebolt main canopy, it's a real elliptical with soft openings and easy landings. I Jumped with the guys who invented Skydiving.
