  1. Tunnels can be cooled just need to install the right size/type of unit. Many science tunnels regulate temperature... Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  2. Nope - Gear is included in the price should you want it.... but you are more than welcome to wear your own suit as a fashion statement rather than a money saver As for the tour... we will be making our way further north in the future too!
  3. Hi Lee, A couple of options are available for bookings at this stage... we have gift vouchers which can be purchased at standard rates (prices will be on the website shortly!) but range from £38 to £84 for beginners range lessons... We also start our dropzone tour this weekend - we aim to visit as many DZ's as we can up to opening and get a chance to talk / meet lots of people. During our pre-opening run we are offering BPA member 'trial' bookings where we basically are giving members the opportunity to try us out. These trial offer vouchers are valid from our opening and are open-ended. The cost is £30 and this is for initial instruction / gear etc and four flight rotations of 1min15. The trial vouchers are limited to one per-person As yet we have not really pushed pre-selling as it was probably a little soon, however with the tour starting and us meeting more people this is something we have planned. Drop us a line if you would like to get a voucher or maybe we will see you at your home DZ soon?!
  4. Hi all, Been so busy over the last few weeks I cant begin to tell you - but I'll try anyway Our tunnel at Bedford has really progressed and we are getting only weeks away before the new motor arrives. Our propeller blades have been manufactured and the team onsite are close to finishing the refit of the training rooms / reception / changing etc. We have started getting dates in the diary for our UK dropzone tour where we hope to meet lots of you... talk to you about our (very proud here) awesome facility - and offer some freebees etc. Our recruiting for instructors starts in a few weeks also, so if you are interested and havent sent us a CV or filled in an application form drop us a line!

Basically every facility is different... Size / Power / Temperature / design can vary in many many ways Again the size of the flight chamber could be anything! - In this case it is 12ft (slightly larger than Orlando)
  6. High speed collision is certainly more serious in freefall - but I dont think as likely as a slower speed impact with a wall... I was just joking though that its the ground not the fall that hurts! I think when people refer to 'dangerous' the severity of the injuries is probably the largest factor... not too many serious tunnel injuries thankfully to date (a few granted)
  7. I guess freefall technically isnt very dangerous at all! Its the landing thats the risky bit Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  8. That happens because it's so easy to get hold of a gun, and there are so many in circulation that its way too late for a ban in the US... However - if public guns were never permitted in the first place.... there wouldnt be quite the problem there is now. Banning guns is a great idea, so long as it was done when your constitution was written.... rather than after the horse has bolted. Not that this helps any now Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  9. One man's eye-sore is another man's eye-candy I guess.... nah - youre a geek for sure Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  10. Thanks Adam, In short - most skydiving tunnels dont have to go to the same stability lengths that scientific tunnels do. The tolerances are alot higher.... some current tunnels probably have +/- 5m/s in places.... but get away with it. Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  11. Hi Lizzie... Although we havent published our prices yet... When our tariff is published - I think you will pleasantly surprised! Cost to fly with us will certainly not be twice as much as the US... In fact for certain bookings we will probably be cheaper! As for the value of tunnel time - I wont go there as I probably cant be seen as 'unbiased'
  12. To quote a friend of mine, and words that I know only too well right now...... 'Its alot quicker to build a website than it is a wind tunnel' Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  13. Things are going good - and we are well ahead of plan at the moment! Its almost impossible to predict an exact date (unless we add alot of contingency!) so at this stage I will just have to stick with July or August.... We will see if we can surprise you with the date Anyway - back to work for me! - we wont stay ahead with me on here!!!
  14. Thanks Paige... Does seem like a way off - but the last couple of months has flown by! (excuse the pun) Dont seem to have time to go nutz! Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  15. Just an update of our progress.... Today was a great step in the last few weeks work... The old motor in our tunnel has been removed (all 20 tons of it!) ready for the new one to be installed in May. We'll be posting photos of the removal on our site along with other pics!
  16. There are other options for people wanting to work in the wind tunnel world If anyone is interested send a recent CV to david.sawyer@bodyflight.co.uk and he will send you an application form. We will be selecting people to attend an open day where our final instructor selection will be made. Initally we will be hiring 3 full time and 6 part time staff. Flight experience is not necessary, however personality - good customer facing presentation and coaching ability is a plus....
  17. Well, I suppose from our point of view - I can give you as much an inside scoop as is possible We will publish our 'official price tariff' a few weeks before we open (not much point before we take bookings!) Our pricing will be very fair... and based on current prices at other open facilities very reasonable! Our facility will actively reward the skydiver and frequent flyer with cheaper block prices and 'buy x get one free' type deals.... Remember also - that our tunnel can host alot of people! so the cost is for the tunnel not the person... split the cost with your friends and its much cheaper.
  18. They do have a cover the goes over the side padded areas - so waiting flyers are ok too (the air column is not covered but obviously the wind takes care of that water!) It was a little cold when I was there last too - but gloves sorted that one out... I was worried at first when it started to rain, I thought I was gonna get stung (been in Orlando in the wet and it wasnt pleasant) but as you say the intake is protected so no problem Out of each of the tunnels I have flown - rain in the face has been the only thing that has slightly spoiled my playtime! Bodyflight Bedford www.bodyflight.co.uk
  19. Definitely dont get wet in Zurich...
  20. A few reasons really.... Our tunnel is not a new build - it is there already and was formerly used for testing aeronautics - we are replaing all the drive equipment (takes 6 months to make that stuff) which was started in December. We have dates for the motor prop etc to be delivered and are onsite now renovating offices / facilities Hence we dont take quite so long....
  21. Yeah, sorry - I keep promising more pics and dont seem to deliver! lol Its kinda hard to provide interesting pics (as the new motor etc are not being put in for a few weeks!) but I'll get some onto the website this weekend. The removal of old metal / motor etc has started so I have a couple of nice blow-torch weilding photos!
  22. Yep, Orlando is the only Tunnel in Florida...
  23. Our Swiss partners are in the process of enlarging their facility (see banners!) At the moment they are working on the flow design - and are not finished yet so a little early to judge..... When these things are setup it takes a few weeks to finish them off - this is normal. When they are open to the public again the flow will be as good as ever
  24. Hi all, Just thought another brief update was due... Our works on site are progressing well, we are moving at a cracking pace and are currently ahead of schedule you never know we could be announcing a pre-August opening date! But we will keep you abreast of that as the time gets closer. We have also agreed our lease on the accomodation block and work starts there next week too. The removal of the old motor/prop etc is starting shortly and our first electical contractors started on-site last week. Our onsite offices are now complete so we have a base of operation at the tunnel - with phones / PCs etc and staff now onsite during normal office hours. I had a great time at the AGM, and look forward to meeting alot more of you in the coming months! We will be arranging a dropzone tour starting around April time.
  25. Happy to help if I understood exaclty your aim/purpose.... and by the sounds of it that doesnt need to be done from a seperate macro with loops at all (a simple cell formula with VBA commands / relative references in it should do maybe....) Drop me a PM if you need me!
