  6. Some times we do sometimes we dont. At least once a week when we change the sheets, or when we have company, as one of our bathrooms is in our room. Mostly not, and weve got all those fluffly pillows and stuff too. We're just too lazy. 7. Damn, I knew I should have done the little Oh, well. I'll let ya on my 1000th later this summer. it will be an all chick load, except for me, and jumpsuits are optional! 8. Why do you have to try? I've not been on an 8-way time, but Ive been around a few of them over my short career as a jumper. But if you believe that your teammates are part of the problem (you must if youre asking them to change their habits), and they refuse how does one address that? Please realize im not pointing figers, just pointing out the complexities in laying down generic policy. If thats what you and the majority of your fellow jumpers at Perris, why couldnt it be implemented. Ecomies are driven by demand. If the demand is for a policy that the majority of a partiular group of consumers want, pool your resources, and make it happen? I just can fathom a DZO and/or S&TA standing alone in front of a group of jumpers saying we want "this" and it being denied if its within reason. If is is denied b/c of worry of loosing certain jumper b/c of policy, then we havent addressed the root cause: arrogance and attitude. Amen brother. I swear I'll be doing the same, and I also hope we cross paths sometime in the future and look at what is happening then, and pat each other and our friends on the back for making it better. 9. I haven't read the rest of the posts in this thread but a couple of people who saw the accident, commented that they thought Danny was a bit low to be turning a 270 to begin with. I wasn't there so I don't know if he had enough altitude to plane out without hitting anyone. You complete a 270 down low, you have no outs and are therefore committed. Therein lise the problem Billy. Not only did his decision to turn too low. A maneuver we all know to be deadly. But he also did it in heavy traffic. Attitude, and arrogance are at the root of this issue. Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #865

  11. Guilty on the sashays, but there had been only one load in the air (KingAir) and there was only one other canopy in the air and it was a *long* way from me. I was shooting accuracy to land close to the accident site so I could walk over and pay my respects to our fallen brothers, which I did. Absolutely no disrespect intended. Walt No offense Walt, but erratic canopy flight, weather or not is for a respctful reason, is still erratic canopy flight. I'll not continue to beat that horse. And I'll be one of the first that say, I busted a fat 270 on the first load on sunday. BUT, I did it a significant distace away from the not only the "main" landing area, but also a long way down the HP area. It had absolutely nothing to do with respect. I did my landing out of moving on. I followed the rules set forth, I gave my fellow jumpers more than enough room so that we all could land safely, and I had a long walk back to say my goodbyes on the day after. And if others think I was disrespectful by going out of my way to ensure the safe landing of myself and all others in the sky, by making a high performance maneuver that has taken me over 800 jumps, and nearly 6 years to TRY to learn. Then so be it. Out of all the friends I have met, and lost, not one of them would ask me to not do 'X' because 'X' happend to them, UNLESS it was a danger to myself and/or those in the air with me. If anything thats excactly what we should do, IF and can be done in a RESPONSIBLE, and SAFE manner. Thats why we drink the drink of our fallen friend's choice. Thats why I was belling flying on Sunday. Thats why we tell stories, and laugh and cry. Thats why those wonderful people who had the chance to be in Deland today will be paying their respects by jumping safely, as planned, and as prescribed by any and all rules set down. 12. Not the man! hes always keeping me down. Oh, and on a side note, it poor DZ.com manners to discuss nekkid pictures and not let the rest of us to evaluate said statement. 13. Dont bother. 99% of them are not worth knowing. Close your myspace account, and dont look back.
  14. Bill, you and I have agreed on a few thing and some others. But what are YOU and an individual going to do about it? The question is not just posed to you but each and EVERY skydiver out there. We DO NOT have to wait for a BSR or "DZs to figure it out". All we have to do is walk into our DZ go straing to the DZO and S&TA and whoever else, and say. We're not putting up with this shit anymore. Now lets fix it, Im mean right f*cking now! Im headed to the DZ as soon as I get off work. The first thing Im going to do is hug everyone there, and the second thing is grabbing the DZO, and S&TA (if hes there yet), and posing that very question, and I will not accept "I dont know" as an answer. I belive in our community. Is doing something like that so hard? Because even the resistant one out there would fold under pressure, if not to just get us off their backs. Evaluate your situation, decide on the plan, follow the plan. Live. We cannot contiune to allow ego's, complacentcy, and arrogance to rule. You cant set a rule or BSR for that. It takes US to set those people straight, or send them packing. 15. I just decided one day that I didnt want to smoke anymore. A guy I work with quit cold turkey after 22 year of 2 packs a day, but he wanted to get healthier. Set yourself some goals and rewards. it really does help. good luck, and you can do it, if I can. 16. Cost should never have anything to do with training. If you have a desire to be in the sport, and the aptitude to perform, you will find a way. I NEVER talk people into skydiving. In fact, I give them the cold hard facts up front. Better they know what theyre getting into in the beginning than 6-12 months in. I remember sitting around after my AFF level 1, after sunset, having a beer with my JMs. We were getting to know each other, and I was so excited I could barely sit still. Then at some point the told me I would loose many of my wuffo friends, I watch my friends die, I would probably get hurt and/or die, and that if I were to be successful I would have to make a commitment to learning. My brother wants to skydive now. I told him the above, told him to come read the incidents forum here. If he was still intrested, come back and see me. He called just the other day. Im gonna go out on a limb here: Skydiving is NOT for everyone. Most "extreme" sports are NOT for the faint of heart. If you dont skydive, and want to hang out with us, its gonna take a lot on your part, but you know what, we accept those that dont jump. My wife is a prime example. I agree that there are trends in the current market, but thats just the nature of any market. In fact, I believe we have some of the greatest talent and potential for groth because of recent publicity. Stunt Junkies, etc. But I also belive in solid training, and preparation. Just my .02 cents worth of rambling.
  17. Funny. Everyone said I never sat still long enough at the boogie, yet I still keep turning up in pictures, and videos. Go figure. Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #865

  19. Ive learned that we all have to damn much time on our hands. Ive learned that I and many of my friend are BIGGER perverts at the DZ than we are here. Ive changed how I put my bag in the main pack tray. Ive changed how I "learn" a new canopy. I picked up unique tips and tricks that are very useful in learning to swoop. Ive learned that everyone has an opinion, and they're not afraid to tell you it's right. Ive learned that I cant get to go see all my friends on here no matter how hard I try. 21. And there's just no way we can come up with every single possible option. The first one that comes to mind is: the spot was long and everyone is trying to get back, just so happens the HP LZ is where everyone is going to land. Does the LZ then become the "main" landing area, and HP pilots should abort their planned landing pattern? This is why, IMHO, that we have to teach each other to evaluate the current situation, apply the skills and principals that we all need to be safe competent pilots. 22. The day the DZ's become liable for the stupidity of jumpers at the DZ, is the day the DZ closes. Are you guys really getting litigious on us? How the hell are lawsuits the answer here? That is by no means the point. Who suggested lawsuits as an answer to anything? What I am talking about is insurance coverage. Make it clear that particular actions are not covered, and you have a financial incentive for grounding the offender on the spot. This gives DZs the tool necessary to maintain basic safety standards. You only have to set an example or two, and people tend to get the message. Blue skies, Winsor DZO's dont need anymore tools now than they did a week ago. They need to act. Who cares if there is some underlying "reason" they set policy. Its a business, and as a business they can refuse service as they see fit. If they see someone doing something stupid, and this is the key, do something about it. Im not talking about, swoopers, or that guy thats always doing S-turns on final, Im talking about anybody! Egos often get in the way, of changing ones habits. The ones that think they're good enough and wont listen to others. Rules and policy do not, and will not affect those people. Action is the only thing that recieves attention. Who gives a rats ass, if the one guy everyone knows continously endangers others gets grounded and/or asked to leave the DZ if we are ALL safer in the end. IF that requires a DZ to separate their LZs and establish pattern guidelines so be it, but thats only going to work in most situations. The "what if's" are going to be rampant even for the best laid plans. The fact of the matter is we have pilots making poor decisions, if we continue to allow those decisions, well, we know the result. This is where we educate. I know some have asked "well the what do you teach". Hell some of you folks have more intelligence in you pinkys that I do in my head, but I could easily come up with some basic fundamentals for that training. Diverdriver touched on aircraft landing pattern regs, and this is where I'll admit Im guilty of not reading the SIM, hell when I was working on my private ticket I only read enough of the AIM to pass my written. I think we can learn from how the avaiation industry regulates flight patterns. Doesnt mean its a cookie cutter fix for us, but the idea of having a method to the madness is. Well many of you may say "how do we evaluate what is stupid?" I say "come one people". Were all grown-ups here, we know right from wrong, we can evaluate risk. If we have someone who for whatever reason cannot, or will not make the proper decisions then... We all know about the "maybe you should take up bowling" speech. It doesnt just apply to the freefall. If a pilot cannot consistantly, safely enter into a landing pattern with a reasonable amount of VERTICAL and HORIZONTAL separation, evaluate the winds, and pick a clear course for landing, maybe they need to take up bowling.
