And students will continue to break that. After all they're students, they're going to make mistakes. Wasnt' the last AZ collision with a low time jumper? Anyway, the notion of '180s' being ok it ludicrous. It's a FAR more intrusive pattern than a 270. Now do I think the 270 is ok...no, but lets be reasonable here people, 180's aren't any better. Education is the key IMO. Not some kneejerk reaction. Smells like a witch hunt to me. Yup... and it'll probably cost more lives for them to figure out that a 180 is more intrusive to the pattern than a 270. Soon enough, people will be doing 90's and 180's in a congested pattern... and that will be considered 'safe'; after all, if 90's and 180's were dangerous in a congested pattern, they would have banned them too, right? Nothing like wipping a 180, when you can't see what's behind you as your setting up. Sounds much safer than a 270 to me... Additioinally, there's not a good way to fly that pattern to set up. if you follow a tradional left hand patter, you have to make a 90 to the right to make your 180, or you'd have to fly downwind to your initiation point. That puts you flying against traffic. I know that makes me very nervous. This isnt a one-rule-fixes-all problem. Its going to take a series of rules, someone to enforce them, and lots of education. To make a significant change quickly, it will take a lot of our energy, but once a DZ sets up its rules. they need to be plastered on every wall, and announced, and briefed with visiting jumpers. That's funny! I pay extra for Enterprise because the service is so wonderful. Enterprise has been good to me as well. Never any problems. Maybe they just don't like goddamn dirty hippies. They hate hippies. Theyre such a pain to deal with. The walking around and point at scratches and stuff. If you'd seen what a car looks like after a bad farm show, you'd be suprised any of them companies can stay in business. Skychick312 put me up at her place when i came to Atlanta to look for a place to live. Marks let me crash at his place while I waited on my Apartment to be ready. Its all good. Keep your head up. I'll be the first one to sit it out of my heart isn't in it. Plus the break helps you get focused, one of the reasons I take the winters off. If you have a solid packer. You only need one. I had only one packing up to three rigs. I had two rigs and a backup, so three. I had one reserve ride, and Trey got my reserve repacked that day. I would have finished in about 6 hours if the weather hadn't moved in for a couple hours. All in all it took about 9. I made 17 full altitude (14,000) and 13 hop-n-pops. Mind you our king air was humping all day long, and I had lots of peeps to help fill loads etc. In fact Travis and Brie did like 17 that day packing all their own gear. Focus on hydration. You'll be bad dehydrated by the end of the day. Streach really well, and keep moving through the day. Its when you sit still that the energy drops off. Have a good support group, people for rigs, food, water, watching you land. Those last 5 or so were really tough. Most of all have fun. I was going to do 31 this year, but it looks like much of my support team will be out of town. There is just no way I could pick any one person. There are so many who have influenced my life, and a great number of them have just recently come to know me. You know who you are. Youre the ones I call in the wee hours and Im slobbering drunk. You're the ones I cant wait to see every weekend. You're the ones that make me laugh, and for some odd reason I make you laugh. If you need a hug, I can help, if I need a hug I know where to get one. I never thought I would end up with so many people I consider close friends, so many that make an impact on my life. I would hope that the "hot spot" is not ever made the LZ for one group or another based solely on the percetance of HP pilots vs. other pilots. I would hope that the DZO, S&TA, and senior jumpers would evaulate the area for the prevailing winds, and landing patterns. Then determine the area that would be the safest for each group. I know that outs, taxiways, and current airport traffic (airplanes) all factor in to my decisions. I know Im very interested in how things will change at our DZ.
