I just clarified my statement by saying that Bush & Company verbally "affirm and uphold" free speech rights. Those affirmations are all over the record books. I didn't mean it any other way, sorry for the ambiguity in my writing. . . =(_8^(1)

You actually believe that? . . =(_8^(1)

I don't boycott anyone in hollywood based on their politics, because if I did there would suddenly be a very limited choice of movies to watch! I just separate the actor's political outlook from his/her talent level. It helps to understand that hollywood types are liberal largely because their brains operate with the "touchy feely" type of brain activity, rather than the "thinker" way of thought held by conservatives. One way of thinking isn't necessarily better than the other, it's just the way it is, and I'm not giving up movie night over it. . . =(_8^(1)

Kev, I don't understand. No "action" by the administration is needed to protect protestors from being hassled. The right to speak out is in place already, and the only protestors I've seen have trouble are the ones breaking laws. I've heard of no federal effort to stifle lawful anti-war protest, have you? OTOH, you can easily search through the speeches of Bush's cabinet and find plenty of precise intent to create and defend free speech here and abroad. This is the stuff to which I refer. Why, just a few days ago Bush made remarks to reporters about how great it was that the Shiites were now able to speak out in protest, even though the protest was against himself, the US, and the war. . . =(_8^(1)
For them to be banished wholesale from radio stations, and even entire radio networks, for speaking out is un-American. The pressure coming from the government and big business to enforce conformity of thought concerning the war and politics goes against everything that this country is about - namely freedom.
Springsteen's quote above makes me believe he doesn't understand that it's the radio listening public that caused the Dipsy Sticks to be banned from various stations, not the government. Our current administration has done nothing but affirm and uphold the right of people to speak out against the war. There are plenty of examples of this in the public record. . . =(_8^(1)

And how easy and convenient it is to strip people down to some false essence, labeling as "weak" a mindset that falls outside one's scope of understanding, all in the name of feeding one's sputtering self esteem. Eh what? . . =(_8^(1)

Ever play Duke on TEN (Total Entertainment Network)? It was a pay gaming service back when first-person multiplayer shooters were fairly new. . . =(_8^(1)

While nobody here is arguing against the employer's right to screen for drugs, how can you lose respect for anyone who makes decisions based on principal and inner conviction? Most people submit to the unpleasant, invasive piss test for the sake of a job, despite feelings of violation. I submitted to drug screening 5 years ago for the job I have now, and to this day the debate on whether I did the right thing rages on in my thoughts! I have tremendous respect for Djan or anyone else with the courage to choose personal integrity over a job. . . =(_8^(1)

There is a similar law in Colorado. Here, driving in the left lane 0.000001 MPH faster than the guy to your right is called "passive-aggressive" driving and can get you a ticket. . . =(_8^(1)

One other thought -- do you have "Active Desktop" installed? If so, maybe a setting in there? I looked through Technet and found nothing exactly like you've described. . . =(_8^(1)

Last time that happened to me, a reboot cleared it up. Do you have TweakUI installed on that system? . . =(_8^(1)
