Inarticulate, positively. Dumb? Not at all. He's a man of average intelligence, above average personability, and below average public speaking ability. I'm not the biggest Bush fan on the planet, but I also see no reason to distort who he actually is. And so did every other speaker there. Polititions and professional speakers of all kinds do that. The trick is to become skilled enough using the teleprompter or your notes to make it appear as though you aren't reading. GWB did a fair job of that during the eulogy. . . =(_8^(1)

It could be a smirk -- after all bubba and bride are "pullin' a good one" on Georgie here . . . This wasn't a momentary closing of the eyelids or an outtake in an unflattering moment. That bitch sat there like that for a long time. Maybe it's related to Nancy turning down bubba's offer to speak. Maybe it's just because the Clintons are assholes. Who knows? I'll bet Hilary would've been having more fun being anywhere BUT the funeral . . . --- Edited to add: The "nodding off" act was performed during GWB's eulogy, and was clearly a low class "fuck you" since she and bubba appeared bright eyed and attentive during the rest of the ceremony. Since judges already have the power to adjust penalties according to the nature of the crime, I don't understand the usefulness of making "extra" laws to cover specific motives. . . =(_8^(1)

I just don't believe we need an extra set of laws defined by motive. Perhaps a guy who murders based on race or whatever does deserve a harsher sentence, but the leeway to provide that sentence could easily be incorporated into sentencing guidlines. . . =(_8^(1)

And according to that same report, 67% of race based hate crime are against blacks, who make up 12% of the population. I don't quite think hate crime laws are out there just to punish whitey, but those numbers do say something about how the law is applied. . . =(_8^(1)

Why? Because there is always a balance between freedom and safety. Because we can't maintain this idealic environment for terrorism without losing lives; the more of a threat they are, the more compromise is needed. The laws of society today, minus the stupid hate crime legislation, don't say it's ok for anyone to victimize anyone. If the people of society need to change their views to conform to laws already in existence, then so be it. But as somebody else pointed out, making "special" laws for minorities is counterproductive to the march towards equality. Affirnative Action is the same. . . =(_8^(1)
