  1. Just think Mars has been that windblown wasteland devoid of life for millions of years.... I wonder if God has ever been there. Of course he has.
  2. Eat less. Move more. Its a pretty simple formula. Well, it tends to be a bit more complex than that for some people...but the idea is for that not to become an excuse. True & true. Peace.
  3. Eat less. Move more. Its a pretty simple formula. The sky is still there when you want it.
  4. True, but if filming the landing of Curiosity was a primary driver, then the choice of the landing site would have been driven by where Opportunity was and not where it would be "best" to land Curiosity. Anyway, its a moot point. Anyway, anyway, looking at the photos of the skycrane crash site... looks like NASA successfully landed Curiosity AND cratered Mars... again. Win - err - Win... When humans eventually get to Mars, I wonder if such landing sites will be seen of value worthy of historic preservation or just picked over for souviners?
  5. I thought the same thing at some point. Maybe they could have put a camera and a sensor or two on the top of the thing along with a short range transmitter to communicate back to earth via the Curiosity rover of one or the satellites in orbit. That way, it maybe could have kept an eye on Curiosity as it roved around. But I'm sure this would have added more complexity, weight, risk, cost, etc. that it wasn't worth the (any) benifit. Plus, as of yet, the EPA isn't up NASA's butt for littering Mars! Imagine if they passed a rule that made Curiosity go clean up all its trash, recycle and sweep up after itself when its mission was done!?? Another thing that I thought would have been cool would be if they had sent a second (smaller) rover up ahead of time to Curiosity's DZ to be set-up ahead of time to film Curiosity's landing from the surface. Now that would have been cool to have outside-in video of that whole skycrane landing maneuver!
  6. In the opening "long shot" did they CG in some really big mountains in the back-ground to the west of the Ortegas?

  8. Yeah, well, pretty much watched that movie for Ally Sheedy! If the MSL is really Johnny 5, its good to see he got work after his movie career ran out.
  9. Conspiracy theories belong in the D.B. Cooper thread. Except that isn't a conspiracy. It's a documented fact. Fun Sponge!

  13. Yeah, well, too bad the Kennedy's had her wacked.
  14. Ya know, some of the artist concept drawings make Curiosity look pretty scary! Running over stuff... shooting laser beams... getting ready to jack hammer rocks...
  15. Try checking your local cable service to see if they have the NASA channel. I'd bet they'll have it on there.
  16. I know it would be impractical (too far) and not the mission of Curiosity, but it would be cool if it drove over to one of the old Viking landers that landed on Mars back in the 70s... of course, then there would have to be a third rover there to take their picture geeking the camera! The 2nd rover would be geeking the camera, smash into the Viking rover and end up flipping itself on its back like a turtle...the 3rd camera rover, filming without proper training and experience would lose focus and run off a cliff... GoPro...be a MARTIAN Hero! I don't care who you are... at NASA or JPL... now THAT would be funny!
  17. The Viking landers used rockets to lower themselves all the way to the surface which causes loads of disruption to the surrounding dust which will damage the sensors on Curiosity. Vikings also had legs whereas the Curiosity probe is on wheels/would require a lander with a ramp, which in itself can be problematic, to be lowered with rockets. It is also a test of this deployment/landing method. If this works it will be capable of lowering heavier things to the surface. So you just beef it up with some monster truck suspension and dirive out of the disturbance area after landing, oh, and some really good dust covers and a bunch of canned, Martian air, to blow the dust off after landing!

  19. Well, its not Curiosity's parachute, but I'd guess its something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsJOTyWBGnU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3lZqSOl0JY Testing Curiosity's parachute... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7vf2HUMMdo&playnext=1&list=PL676CB59E03B96074&feature=results_main
  20. So, Curiosity is set to land late Sundy night / early Monday morning... anyone, besides Nick, planning on staying up late to watch see if it lands safe or if we crater Mars... again...
  21. I hear that there's some guy in the midwest trying to put a PT-6 in a C206!!?! Would make a great jump plane for ya!
  22. I wish you would finally come out of the closet. It is painful to watch you struggle with your sexual identity. It's okay, we couldn't like you any less. Actually I would bet most of us would like you more. Now, now, just because Shah likes women who have an ass like a 12 year old boy's doesn't mean he's homosexula...
  23. Cool Thanks! Maybe one day I'll get a handle on all the tricks that go with this new-fangled interweb thingy!
  24. Would it be possible... or is it possible... to subscribe to individual threads within a forum or just a forum itself?
