  1. Now -> 21st century, last century -> 20th, Spanish war 19th century -> two centuries ago. And as you have pointed out, neither you, your parents nor your grandparents ever had to think about living in a war. My parents have, my grandparents have, and at one point I almost have lived in a war. I am not saying the US has not done a lot of good in the world. But lately it seems the US govt has gone out of its mind. It wants to start a war, plain and simple, whether it has taken the time to actually inform its citizens that it has declared war. The first reason was the UN inspections, but after that wasn't an issue anymore, there are still troops being sent in. And the reason now? It seems the main reason IS access to Iraqi oil, which has been so stated by Bush. Now why am I remembering Iraqs invasion into Kuwait, which was for access to Kuwaiti oil? Your allies are the ones behind the idea??? It that what you think? It is more like the Euro govts are playing along to not become the almighty's enemy. I have not seen one person approve of a decision to support the US in its war. The one statement that goes remotely in that direction is "well, they did free us from the Nazis". As for the Jews, when will they finally stop whining about WW2. It was not ONLY the Jews, the Jews were just a fraction of those shunned, but they are the only ones still complaining cause it is obviously still working to their advantage. I think the Jewish people in Israel are as much terrorists as are the Palestinians there. If you see the Israeli map of 1967 and compare it to today's map, you will probably be shocked. Saddam may be supporting the Palestinians, but loads of other states are supporting the Jews. So to that effect, both sides are idiots. Both are supporting them in killing each other. I was once asked:" Do you think the US supports Israel so they create a mess down there, so that will make the Middle Eastern countries unstable?" I've never really thought about it much but now, I say: Congratulations to both sides, you have created an even larger mess with more dire consequences. I think the only way the Israel conflict will ever stop is if clear boundaries are set, which will hopefully be implemented by 2005. I suppose we will then see, who will really want peace, and who will still terrorize. The children are very well informed about their history. If you've ever been to Germany, you will see that bright and clear if you bring up the subject. I honestly don't know who told you this fabricated tale. I suggest telling your govt that last sentence.
  2. A great gift for women is one of those gift baskets from the body shop with lotion/candles/scented oils/shower gel. And you can get them in all price ranges and colors. edit: oops, guess it's been said a couple of times already...
  3. Got that by email today, thought the credits were hilarious
  4. I live in Germany, but am not German, but I am wondering why a German talking about peace is ironic? It would be like saying an American talking about human rights is ironic, because of what was done to the Native Americans. (Though I am sorry to say, that I am increasingly getting the impression that even today, the only ones enjoying human rights in the US, are US nationals, but that's a different issue)

    Reserves

2001. There was a statement by the German packers' organization, to the fact that over here you can't jump a reserve that's older than 15 years. The reason was that even nylon will deteriorate after a while, though not visibly. They had some test run on 10 to 12 year old reserves with 0 jumps. While new they used to let 15l/sqf/s (litres per sqf per second) of air through, and with 10 to 12 years that was up to 48l/sqf/s. It will probably get you to the ground, but it IS your last chance, and I personally wouldn't try to save some there.
  6. Excuse me for not mentioning wars 2 centuries ago. My point is, if WW3 breaks out, how worried are you going to be about your life and your family's life as compared to someone who lives closer to that region (Africa, Europe, Asia)? I wonder if you have ever been in a situation where you bought a year's supply of conserved goods, in case a war reached your home town? Been there, don't want to be there again. But maybe you may very well be in that situation if Iraq decides and is able to retaliate. And I suppose it will be able to, otherwise it wouldn't have come to this mess anyway. But maybe Bush is just blowing off gas...? I for one, sure hope so, even though I will be the last to support the Iraqi regime.
  7. I don't either, usually white as a sheet (thank god for tanning salons), and dark blond until I moved to a sunless country. But that never was a problem.
  8. And it works . And it doesn't get boring on the road there
  9. Well it's cold sometimes, sprint to the car, drive to the nearest point, sprint to the bathroom. OK, I can't believe this is now a hot thread. I am going to eat now, who will take my place in writing some nonsense? It did get me off newbie status
  10. Try that one... http://www.fnac.com/Shelf/article.asp?PRID=1096224&SubjectId=0&Origin=mysic&OriginClick=yes That's Assia, try #23 or #1, that's the only Arabic singer I listened to and liked.
  11. I can understand your point, but that would be the same as not feeling safe in NYC only because of the attack. But on an average, I'd feel a loohhooot safer walkin down a deserted street in Cairo, than I would in any other big city.
  12. Which one? I get J-Walk, kpop, and a woman with a funny hairstyle.
  13. What IS seat and lap? To get the reserve in, you use the rig as a seat? If it belongs to a cutie, you ask her to sit on your lap for a quick fix on the rig? Verrry Confused
  14. whats this "we" stuff? you have a mouse in your pocket? J/K He said y'all, so I was asking if we all
  15. Well, let's see, as background info for you. That was a terrorist attack, and I think by now, you should be able to place that word. And not only tourists, but also a not insignificant number of police and passers by lost their lives there. For a country whose only income is tourism, you can imagine what that will do. And ya know what? Those terrorists came from the Sudan. And you know what else? Although it may be only a rumour, the guess was they were trained by some US organization. That is like the most inappropriate remark.
  16. So now we have to choose between MYMERC and EUTRSH? hmm... Dun't really look like EUROTRASH anymore.
  17. If it makes you feel any better, I run like hell, when I hear (I will call it oriental) oriental music. Though there are a few great Arabic songs. Assia (Algerian, I think) sings a kind of R&B that excellent. edit: oh man!! I wouldn't make it for very lon as a secretary, seeing as how many typos I keep making
  18. Flooded historic sites: you're talking about Philae, which has been excavated ages and ages ago, you now go to visit it by cute little boats. Was ist denn eine Klump?? edit: I think I will use the spell checker then
  19. BTW, for your info, in Egypt there are Egyptians and Arabs. You may very well offend an Egyptian by telling them they're an Arab.
  20. Actually reading the post, will tell you where the comparison is. My point was that having been there 10 years ago does not give you a basis to give travel advice for today. I'm not telling you to go to Egypt, but people who go there now, seem to come year after year, so go figure. There are always people who don't enjoy one place or the other, but to me it seems like you're basing your opinion on a trip 10 years ago, and purlease, if you wanted to go out in a hotel, I rest my point.
  21. January 1993. Do you realize that was 10 years ago? I think a trip anywhere 10 years ago doesn't really give you a basis for travel advice. Take Berlin for example, if you'd been there 10 years ago, you'd probably be telling me to not venture to the east part for anyhting. Look at it now, the east is THE place to go out, eat, go clubbing. The west part is pretty sad compared to it. Yep...it was OK if you stuck to just pepperoni. KFC or the other chicken place was much better. Back then there were a couple of nice bistros, cafes and restaurants, catering for most tastes. You just didn't know where to look. Now there are loads of great places to get something to eat, they just don't have huge neon signs to attract attention. There are taxis and those little mini buses everywhere. Like I said...the place is dirty and it smells bad. The only reason anyone was "nice" to me is because they wanted money. Make it abundantly clear they aren't getting any and suddenly they don't hang around. I'm not talking about modes of transportation, rather about how to find out where to go. It is a poor country with a lot of slums, if you don't like slums, avoid them. If anyone you ever met wanted money from you, you obviously only went to the touristy places. A lot of Americans I met there just went to the American University in Cairo, chatted with someone, and had them show them around. Egyptians are a very open people, and always have time for others and do like foreigners a lot. Unfortunately the population is devided in poor and rich, which mostly translates to conservative and "modern". I you want to go out at night for instance, you probably just have to grab someone dressed in jeans, a t-shirt and sunglasses and ask them what to do. But apart from Cairo, there are some amazing landscapes in the oases and Sinai. And there are very few places you can compare to underwater egypt. I've been taking friends down with me for the last four years, and they loved it. (hurghada, of course, is a huge slum)
  22. On my cutaway, I didn't get a bad feeling before the jump, but I get a funny feeling every now and then, and check my rig like a thousand times in the plane, but never a cutaway then.
  23. I know this thread is old, but I can't help wondering when you were in Egypt? The old Stella sucked, but now it's been privatized, and there's also Sakkara, which the Germans like, and I think they can talk. And the food, man where have you been??? The most disgusting fast food there is Pizza Hut. Egypt is a country you will love if you know how to get around, which you obviously didn't. And the general mentality is, if you're not friendly to us, f*** you. You know what? My friends and I thought the same about the food in a small town in FL, and had to drive an hour every evening to find something that you wouldn't call fat with a speck of food. Oh and BTW, there are plenty of gorgeous chicks, you just have to know which bar/club is the place to be on a given day of the week.
