Sorry, no pics from the demo yet. I was busy driving the plane on this one and also forgot to bring my camera. Grrrrrrr..... Yes, it is a CRJ in my avatar. A larger version can be found HERE. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Oh, I totally agree that the wage is dictated by revenues. I do work for an airline that is in bankruptcy. But working for free? No, I disagree with that being acceptable. I never said I would be rich flying jumpers and I flew my ass off when I did it full time. It was adequate for the position I was in. That's all I'm saying people should be making. Free = no. Adequate and reasonable = yes. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

I dunno. We drove the Skydive Chicago red van down there but don't know where it was parked. Not sure how long they stayed afterwards. I asked if they got to meet Oprah but they didn't get to. Took them a few minutes to get fished out of the lake. It was all coordinated. We had two Chicago PD boats waiting to pick them up out of the water. Today I got to fly a demo jump for Oprah's Family Reunion on Navy Pier downtown Chicago. WAY COOOOL! I didn't get any pictures myself as I was flying but it all went good. We planned for four landings in the water at the pier rather than put it down in the crowd. Interesting getting to fly that close to the downtown buildings at that altitude. Not often you get to do that and then drop jumpers. There were TONS of boats on the water in and around the pier too. Lots of people got to watch! Excellent. I thought you would have asked him that. Just thought I'd ask the question though.

What about other packjobs they have done this way? Are they contacting the owners to have their rigs checked?

Sorry to hear that Mary. That, however, does not guarantee you would have met the same fate had you been on that shift. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125 -

And this from the old Skydiving Fatalities page. I think this is where I got the idea that a jumper was decapitated from a premature reserve deployment on the step. I knew it was a "she" but this does not say there was a decapitation. Maybe it originally said that and was changed. I dunno. Just seems to stick in my mind that I read it somewhere. http://www.skydivenet.com/fatalities/fatalities_nonus_97.html number 16. 8/16/97 T?nsberg, Norway AIR 25 ?? ??/?? Description: She and two others was about to do a three-way from a C-182, and she was the first one out to wait for the others. When she was standing out there waiting, she got an unintentional reserve opening, and was killed by the sudden impact with the plane. The pilot had after the incident problems with stabilizing the aircraft, but managed to gain control over it. The two other skydivers got away with the shock. Lessons: Check your closing loops regularly! A loose reserve pack job is a definite hazard! Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Ok, I knew I just had to spend some time going back through my reports listed on my SITE and find the report I was refering to. Now, it doesn't say the jumper was decapitated so I'm not sure if this is the right one. But, the reserve PC DID go over the top of the wing. I'm gonna have to try and figure whether I was told this story of the decapitation or I read it in a synopsis. I seem to remember reading it. Ok, back to digging. Oh, and by the way....No, I don't believe it should be banned from launching from the V. The gear is much safer now and as SM1 said we still must continue to teach newbies to guard their handles no matter what. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

I don't think they have to ban it. I just think people need to know how to do it and know the risks. The first person on the step should be the far person out. The next out should be the person in the V. The next is the person in front of the one in the V so that no one has to crawl out across anyone really. The final is the one in the door. Slacker!!! Maybe there was a coup at RWS? Bill, who's got the keys to the front door these days?
-
Actually there was a reserve firing that took the jumper over the wing in that position. It decapitated her. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Yah, and he nearly hit the tail which would have done serious damage to him, the plane, or both. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125 -

Dang...well....we can always move on to BillVon and SM1 but they might be harder targets. Just as long as they don't make that request here we're in the clear.....heeeeerrrrrre monkey monkey monkey.....I have a peanut for youuuuuuuu!

Yah, but you are just a newbie so what do you know! Just kidding. What annoys me is when I have to explain a joke and the explanation actually take longer to explain than the joke took to type out which is really a waist of time in the first place but what do I know I have Carpel-Tunnel! Edit to add: I know it's Carpal not Carpel but that's the way I wanted it!

What? That still leaves like 1:00 for some more boom shocka locka! Can't be that bad.
