I agree with that but I'll tell you that I can do a heck of a lot better job IFR flying with my full glass cockpit now. I have more situational awareness. Yes, there are more buttons to push and make sure everything is set up. Yes, a pilot can get into trouble if they use it incorrectly but it doesn't make them device dependant. I take my handheld GPS with all the time. Am I device dependant? No, it's an added tool. But I always want to fly with it. So your arguement is that I'm dependant. I say I'm not. I feel that I have more information with it. With the Cypres, you turn it on and forget it. You plan your dives and deployments so that you don't scare it. If you find someone that makes a dependant statement then you council them. But to say people who choose to always jump with a Cypres are somehow dangerous just doesn't wash with me. And yah, I've made my share of jumps with no RSL and no AAD. Hell my firt rig was a Wonderhog with Cruiselite and Safety Flyer. But having people with Cypreses is a good thing and if they choose to have one for every jump like I choose to have my handheld GPS for ever flight then that's not dependency. That's just a choice. I chose to go back to an RSL when the Skyhook came out. It addressed the concerns I had for cutting away in a spinning mal. I've already had two reserve rides without an RSL. I know I can do it. But, I like the way the Skyhook works and choose to have it on my rig. Am I device dependent? I don't think I am. Others probably will. But it's still my choice. Here on these forums people talk about riding the plane down for not jumping through clouds. They recieve praise on knowing their limits and making that personal choice for themselves. Why in the hell are people choosing to only jump with a cypres being put down as dependent on a machine? This just does not fit with the attitudes expressed elsewhere on this site. And don't ever expect to understand a word the traffic reporter says because you can't. There are no breaks, pauses, or clearification of WTF they are talking about. Just know that if you are on the road you will get into a traffic jam and there is no alternate route so don't bother. But they do have spiffy helicopters that hover over. If I had been that pilot I would never have taken off if he didn't have the rig completely on. Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

No, that's their personal choice. But really, you shouldn't tell people to not get on heavy wingloadings because that's messed up! They shouldn't be wingload dependant! They should understand the consequences of turning low and shouldn't be hindered in their freedom. Because we know that depending on a light wingloading is only being gear dependent. Get real Ron. And get your arguements in order. Are you for more safety in this sport? Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Hey, at least we don't call a damn elevator a "lift". I mean how silly! At least we evolve with the times. You all are still so far behind that, that......that.....give me a second I'll think of something witty.... So there!

Well, I've seen Kate Cooper, Jim Wallace, BillVon and many others at the DZ. They appear on the Discovery Channel. And I've seen Mr. Douglas who was in the movies "Dropzone" and "Mullhaland Falls". I even got to put my hands all over Mr. Douglas. Then there's Missy and Rook Nelson who were in an episode of "It's a Miracle" on the PAX network. I have to say, the pilot they got to fly in that episode was the most awesome pilot I've ever seen before! Then there was Max Meijer who was on Fox several times for a show that won an Emmy! So yah, I've seen lots of stars at the DZ! Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Me thinks I remember Arthur Ash being one hell of a tennis player many moons ago. I don't think this is recent and I could care less if the "blacks are taking over". Parts of this thread have really made me ill to be honest. I've seen some nasty generalizations. One of my best friends at the DZ happens to be black. Do I care he's black? No. I could care less. Taking over the sport.....sheeeeesh....What century is this? All I have to say is which fighter squadron in WWII never lost a bomber that was under their care? The Tuskeegee (sp?) Airmen that's who. All black. If my bacon is on the line then I want the people who can get the job done no matter what. Black, white, yellow, brown, blue, martian. And you are worried about blacks taking over the sport? I don't seem to remember my ethnic background being on the apllication for my D license. So I don't think anyone can take over this sport for me. This sport is mine for me. I make it what it is. There are plenty of other golfers out there who are white. I don't think Tiger can clone himself too fast to replace all of their memberships. Taking over? That phrase is just like fingers on a chalkboard to me. [distant voice from the top of a tree] Well, seeing as how I've been chased up this tree I hope the violence won't be too bad. My only hope is that my light ass gives me an advantage way up here and BoBo won't be able to get this high with his large SilverBack ass! It's a good thing I brought along my birdman suit so I can mimic a flying squirel (actually that what I called BM the first time I saw it and still think the name should be changed to "Flying Squirel Suit" but that's just how I roll) and fly away! Let's give it a try! [faaaaaawhoooommmppp!][tree limps breaking] [mustafa voice] Well, I've fallen down here and I'm really....in quite....a bit of pain. See, I designed this holideck and if you just open the controls for me I can get out and be alright. [BAMMMM!] You hit me! Why are you beating me like a dead horse? [Bammm BAmmmm!] Riiiight....moving on. -

don't make me start busting out the blonde jokes chucky [hushed documentary narrator voice] As we watch the power struggle within the pack we see the silverback exert his authority. Others will challenge. But the silverback will not sucumb to these challenges this day. Tune in tomorrow as we see how the silverback, affectionatly named "Bo Bo", does some stomping." -

But this hop and pop damn near killed this jumper. Isn't that reason enough to say yes, even an hop and pop has some risk and having an operating Cypres is a good thing in general? Chris Schindler www.diverdriver.com ATP/D-19012 FB #4125

Bill I respectfully disagree with you. I categorically won't take off in a plane without a seatbelt on. Does that make me a hazard in the air to other pilots? I don't think it does. I feel that we should not demean anyone for choosing a Cypres to be installed and on for all the jumps they make. We don't need seatbelts to ride in cars. But it's that one car ride that you will need that seatbelt. I do not see it as device dependancy. I know how to hit the gas and use the breaks on my car. I certainly don't use my seatbelt to stop me because I don't know how to avoid running into a wall. But if someone or something wants to shove me into a wall then the belt (and airbag) are there. Jumpers were Woody, Donovan, Dave C., and Kirk. Oh and Flat Keith went with Woody in tandem but alas, Flat Keith slipped beneath the waves and was not seen again. [Flat Keith is the school project of the nephew of our S&TA Mama Tish. We were taking him on all sorts of adventures taking pictures and thought it would be cool for Flat Keith to go on a demo for Oprah. I'm sorry to say he didn't make it.
