  1. Here is what was on the FAA site. You can also check at www.DiverDriver.com Forum section for updates on Jump Plane accidents. It's the fastest way to check for info. 2. Reports are that the pilot radioed mechanical problems before hitting the building and sent a Mayday. Witnesses on the ground reported smoke trailing from the aircraft before impact. However, there was a second gunman on the grassy knoll shooting at the private plane.

  4. Oh, man, that sucks about Terry. Tell him I hope he gets well soon. He was a JM in KC when I was there and was on the last engine failure I had there before leaving for Chicago. Thanks for the danish Terry. I'll check in on ya in a bit. Chris
  5. Don't make me smack you upside the head with my wingtip Grumpy. Oh, and by the way, what's the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song? You know....the one that goes...."Cut-it-away, Cut-it-away, Cut-it-away now!!!!" Chop, chop. Chris
  6. They report that it was in the process of going around on aborted landing. Glad all are "expected to live." I will post the NTSB report when it becomes available in the coming days. From the FAA site today: IDENTIFICATION Regis#: 4090D Make/Model: C182 Description: 182, Skylane Date: 04/13/2002 Time: 2100 Event Type: Accident Highest Injury: None Mid Air: N Missing: N Damage: Unknown LOCATION City: CONWQAY State: AR Country: US DESCRIPTION AIRCRAFT LANDING WAS TOO LONG, PILOT DECIDED TO ABORT LANDING, ACFT HIT TREES AT END OF RWY THEN CRASHED IN A FIELD ON OTHER SIDE OF TREES, 1 UNKN INJURY, CONWAY, AR INJURY DATA Total Fatal: 0 # Crew: 1 Fat: 0 Ser: 0 Min: 0 Unk: Y # Pass: 3 Fat: 0 Ser: 0 Min: 0 Unk: # Grnd: Fat: 0 Ser: 0 Min: 0 Unk: WEATHER: LIT 132053Z 15007KT 7SM SCT080 BKN250 27/18 A3000 LIT 132153Z 14009KT 10SM SCT050CB SCT100 BKN250 26/17 A2999 OTHER DATA Activity: Unknown Phase: Landing Operation: General Aviation Departed: UNKN Dep Date: Dep. 8. Sorry, just couldn't leave. Did two jumps, flew three loads and a TWO Plane formation! Woohoo!!! Hope to cruise out there today (sunday). Chris
  9. Well, we're delayed on 10-way practice on saturday morning so if it drags out too late we may not be at SDI on Saturday. We'll still have to see. Sunday should still be able to make it out and see people. Chris
  10. Well, if you want a place to hang out in the mean time you can pop on out to Skydive Chicago down the road. Just 20 minutes from Morris. Chris
  11. Well, back in the day when I learned to fly we didn't HAVE GPS. Hell, we didn't even have approaches. Just lit bonfires to guide our way. And that's another thing....we didn't have any daylight back then either......it was up hilll....both ways.....always snowed.......open cockpit........no scarf (we're men damn it! We don't need no stinkin scarf!)
  12. Dude, I lost my SkymonkeyOne decoder book. What the hell did you just say? Chris
  13. Yah, well, when you go to an all boy highschool it's kind of hard to find dates when you're straight. And the rejections just got too tough. Asked one girl to go to prom. Turned me down. Didn't wanna buy no crummy flowers no how.
  14. And this very thing has caused more than one violent line twisting spin. One ended with the jumper just dumping the reserve without cutting away because the twists involved the risers and trapped the cutaway cables. This jumper got wrapped by the deploying freebag and had to grab it and toss it. It deployed clean and then when the tension was off the main was able to perform the cutaway. Scary. That's why we are pushing everyone to get the Metal Hardhousing inserts for the risers and make sure that the risers you have do NOT have an exposed toggle knub. Relative Workshop has just about the best riser out there now. Great way to stow toggles and excess line. Chris
  15. No, that's just what you wanted to hear.........
  16. Did anyone notice the jumper calls "5 right" to the pilot and he banks left? Bwahahahahahahah!!!!!! Then I thought I heard "No, No, Right!" Those who were there....could you comment? Chris
  17. Freebird, I have seen people with problems using their slinks. The new "soft link" line attachments don't stop your slider as it comes down. I have had several people tell me that for a time the gromets on their slider hung up on their toggles. One jammed leading to a cutaway. There are any number of reasons why a toggle would jam. Hard Deck. Know your hard deck. Is the canopy controllable and LANDABLE. Yes? Continue. No? Then begin your emergency procedures at that hard deck. Altitude awareness in a slow speed malfunction like this can be critical because it is easy to lose track. Story: Have a friend that got a toggle stuck. Tried to land the canopy by flaring with one toggle. Drilled themself into the ground and came very close to dieing. This person should never have tried to land this canopy. It was NOT loaded more than 1:1. Even "docile" canopies can be mean given the chance. Don't be afraid of the reserve. It's on your back for a reason. Just make sure that if you're going to use it you decide high enough to get a good deployment. Don't be like my other friend who cutaway at 200 feet. He didn't make it. Chris Schindler D-19012
  18. Ok, now, not knowing any specifics on the 767 I DO know that some aircraft have a way of transfering hydraulic fluid from one system to another. If that transfer valve stays open it is possible to be unable to build hydraulic pressure and thus no brakes. DOH!!!!!!! It happened at O'Hare with one of our BAE 146s. It WAS a mechanical problem. Chris
  19. DiverDriver says = DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Yah, like when you blow out a sinus or eardrum. Maybe then. Chris
  21. http://WWW.Relativeworkshop.com For us lazy people.
  22. Hey, it's just a convenient excuse to see what we can do. As far as planning a bigway I'd be willing to organize if others wish it. We'll see what is shaking as we go. Chris
  23. So far, everyone we've listed has posted here more than once. The motto for TF: No boundaries. It's about inclusion, not exclusion. So, I think it's appropriate to tell people about this to get them posting and involved before the attemps. Is there a problem with this? Was there a time limit set for how long you had to be a DZ.com member before you could participate on this? Number of posts? If there was, could you forward them to me so we can exclude the appropriate people. Hell, we could all post whore until we make it there. Maybe participation in this would get more people participating here. Excuse me for trying to reach out to my fellow jumpers. Chris
  24. Cool, I think that'll work. Chris
