    Near miss

Did the FSDO say they were going to look into it further? Not to get people in trouble but there might be some serious education to do here. You might not be able to identify which specific aircraft it was but you might figure which company it was and send a nice educational letter to them. Just some thoughts. Chris
  4. All I can say is: DUDE!!!! WTF??????? Grass loading area? Was it some uneven ground or was it you changing directions rapidly? Chris

    Near miss

While you may not like the idea you might contact the FAA. Call the Denver FSDO and talk with someone. Aircraft need to talk to someone. Was the local ATC ever asked if that target had been on their radar or was their radar not looking that low? The FARs state that jump planes have to be in contact with ATC before jumping. It sounds like your pilot was. Did he call the Supervisor and ask why he was not informed of that target transiting the area? Chris Schindler www.DiverDriver.com
  6. Coins!!!!! It's the only way to go! We need an all Coin system!!! That's it! Flame on! Chris
  7. And what if we don't believe in God? You can't force it on me by printing it on the money. Chris
  8. The Supreme Court does NOT hear every law suit submitted. They only take on cases they feel will change the law of the land. So yes, this is good use of their time. They choose the cases. Chris
  9. I hated Clinton from the start. But the MTV generation voted him in. I believe in the Constitution. We can't pray openly at public schools. I don't see that as a problem. I went to Catholic schools all my life except for a few years. We should honor separation of church and state. I don't have a problem with "In God we trust". Just that it's on our money is not separating Church and State. What if some citizens don't believe in "God". It is not fair to them to have to read it on their money. Why is it a problem to take "In God We Trust" off our money? Chris
  10. And our money is next. It says "In God we trust". That's got to go too. Separation of Church and State. Chris
  11. You're right Quade. Looking out the door has to be done correctly. That's why communication with ATC is so important. A good working relationship with ATC to give you pertinent infomation on traffic. And if they aren't very cooperative you HAVE to get that relationship changed. I have to say that at most places I've dropped jumpers, ATC has been very cooperative and helpful. Only two places did I feel an adversarial relationship with a majority of controllers. There are several tools the jump pilot uses to make sure the area is clear. No one tool can be used alone. All that said...I am in support of DZs getting relief from the FARs in some situations for dropping through clouds or at least getting relief to the point of remaining "clear of clouds". Can you measure 500 feet or 1,000 feet or 2,000 horizontal? I didn't think so. Neither can the FAA. The only way to measure it is to go through the cloud. That's the only way to definitively say "yep....you were closer than 2,000 horizontal". And even then there are angle changes that can mask the actual distance. Chris Schindler www.DiverDriver.com
  12. Also....when you read a thread and then click on someone profile to send a PM you will be returned to your message list instead of the thread you were on like on the old forum. I know there will be differences between the forums. But if I don't ask then you can't tell me NO. Chris
  13. Gale, you never EVER have to get out of an aircraft if you don't feel comfortable. That is your personal choice. You might have to pay for the plane ride. But that's fair. I have been flying by my DZ and knew exactly where to look for skydivers. It was a bright blue sky with 50 miles visablility. I never EVER saw them. So see and avoid is mostly on the jumpers part to see other aircraft and avoid them. With the help of the pilot/ATC traffic reports/looking down you can clear the area fairly well. I know in some areas where the radar coverage is very good and aircraft can be seen fairly low near the DZ. I would say that my main concern about jumping through clouds is the break off and deployment below the lowest layer. A jumper to jumper collision (in my opinion) is a much greater hazard than a jumper/aircraft collision. NOW....I'm NOT advocating to go out and start busting clouds. That's not my point at all. Just from my experience.....I see the most likely threat to be jumper/jumper collisions. Chris Schindler www.DiverDriver.com
  14. Bill, I've seen this with a cypres also....when the rig was opened up the Cypres unit had cracks in the casing from packers abuse in packing. They also carried the rig by its' yoke where the control unit cable ran creating cracks in the cable housing. There seemed to be many ways the shielding could be corrupted and allowing interference. Chris
  15. First off....Thanks Sangiro for doing all this update....wow....what a project. Ok...my .02: When you view a thread that is say on page 2 and you read it and want to go back to read other thread titles clicking on "skydiving talk back" at the top of the page takes you back to page one. I'm not one to read EVERY thread by clicking on "next thread" and so am selective of titles. Can this be fixed to go back to the page we came from? If not...no big deal. Just learning my way around. Two: when i want to use markup for a link it wants to append the "dropzone.com/cgi-bin..etc..." to my url. I'm using the [* url "website here" ] website [/ url] for forming my website name the way i like it but it is coming up with the extra stuff. How's that happening? Or is it operator error? Chris
  16. Groundzero, because this Cessna 182 was a jump plane. That's why. It's registered to Conneticut Parachutists. Chris Schindler www.DiverDriver.com
  17. I will post the NTSB link when it becomes available. 18. Bill, I'm not sure it turns itself off. My understanding is that it "inhibits" itself from firing. I've never heard that it actually turns itself off at 130'. Anyone wanna call Airtech or SSK to find out? Chris
  19. Rhino, not hitting a golf ball well has nothing to do with giving you or anyone else advice. The outside observer can some times keenly see a bad situation. Tiger Woods is hands down the best golfer out there now. Does he take lessons? Yes he does. Can his coach hit better than him? No he can't. Is the advice useless to Tiger? I don't think so. He's still on top. Ice skating coaches.....probably aren't and probably never were as good as there students are or will be. Does that make their advice useless? No. I left a skydiving operation and predicted to my friends that they would have a fatal plane crash within a year of me leaving. I made an assesment of what I knew and saw. I hate being right....but 5 of my friends died 11 months after I left. I have also predicted jumpers who were on a course to hurt themselves under canopy. And I was correct on a few of them. Others.....are still looking for a smoking hole. If I see someone pulling a hook out of the corner all the time I'm pretty safe in saying that the probability of femuring is high. If I told them they were headed for a femur break I don't think I would be wrong in that assesment. It may be the comment that wakes them up. Then again, some people need reverse psychology to listen. I had a guy with 30 jumps ask if he could jump a tall Chicago building he had access too. He wanted to do it with a sport rig. I said no. And NO. And no. AND NO!!! After 30 minutes of arguement of why he shouldn't do it I said "Hey, go large! We'll read about you later in the paper." He said "Oh...so I'd be a total dumbshit for trying huh?" I wish I'd tried that tactic earlier. Man did I waste a lot of breath. Chris
  20. Military Branch bashing? Uh oh!!!!!
  21. Right....it was an "accident". Crossing that border with cameras on board was just a "mistake". mmmmhmmm. LOL. Chris
  22. I don't even know how to respond to that logic. You've stumped me.
  23. It's true....no matter how many hours you have or how many years experience we can ALL get led down the road to some unfortunate circumstances. Every pilot out there has gotten lost. Most of us get away with it rather than ending up circling over the White House. Chris
  24. Um..see.....back in the day when I was a young pilot we didn't HAVE GPS. We used Sectionals (which are still required to be on board for all fights) and even if we diverted we still had to know where we were and where we wanted to go. It's a required skill for the Private Pilot license. Hmmmm. Course...back in the day.....we had to fly uphill, both ways, in the snow, and do Spilt Ss for our license. Chris
