BASE has its fair share of colorful characters. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

what we need for this study are scores of brain damaged thrill seekers willing to be psychologically and physiologically probed, prodded, imaged, and dissected. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

These bridges are very actively monitored by the National Park Service and the other federal agencies. One of these bridges is extremely critical to the infrastructure of the southwest. Moreover, border control is extremely active in this area, with night vision and other equipment. They are looking for the smuggling of Mexicans, terrorists, and drugs. I visited the area recently and am I convinced anyone who would attempt to jump there would soon be in handcuffs. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

I can think of several life threatening scenarios where the need to cutaway is while the lines are under tension. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

yes, i see what you are saying. i just personally wish the exposure was a little more limited, but i don't how that could be done yet. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

I frequently check the length of my yellow cutaway cable at the risers before exit. Perhaps the cutway cable length should be made longer with a longer pouch on the riser. Further, perhaps the cable housing should be more hidden to reduce the chance of hangups on a helmet cam. Integrity risers are nice too regarding wear, since the white (retaining) loop for the three ring system is not exposed hile "dragging" the risers/container during the line stowing. Nothing has changed, so far as I can tell. I didn't touch the multi and the line lengths look symmetric and similar to what they were before the problem started. I didn't land in water either. I will check line lengths and symmetry of my multi though. thanks, Chris Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

I recently started having openings that are consistently to the left about 90 degrees or more after about 200 near perfect on heading openings. The canopy is a Fox Vtec 245, vented with the multi. I've inspected the pilot chute and the bridle attachment point to see if there is an asymmetry (causing a rotating pilot chute and a consistent off heading direction). I also changed out the pilot chute but I still have the same problem. From inspecting the canopy, I do not see why this is happening. Would it be advisable to obtain a new line set assuming the lines have stretched in a subtle way to cause the heading problems? thanks, Chris Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Hey, my 100 foot bridle would work just fine! Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

how about a rapidly whirling pilot chute with a slacked bridle during the end of line stretch? Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

beware about the rollover. the canopy may be much more damaged than you think. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

D'ohh! I deferred it to Jen since she's getting her Ph.D. in virology based cancer treatment. OK. You've challenged me on it. I will take it up and post something informative about the article. thanks for the push. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

yes, yes it is. now that the base community has honed its skills at subversion, evasion, split second thinking, i will now activate a device that emits a particular ultrasound pulse train, immediately turning us into right wing controlled robots set for world domination... or something. Before long, you will have an exoskeleton too. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

For slider up, routing the lines outside the slider will drastically slow the descent of the slider, since the slider is primarily driven down by the brake lines. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Perhaps we need a 3000 foot tether on us when we jump so that we don't officially leave the ground. Tethers seem rather impractical though. How can we create an emergency relating to a serious property loss? Actually, Dead Steve Morrell (RIP), got busted for aerial delivery and creating and maintaining a hazardous condition. I think the laws could easily be changed as needed to persecute backcountry parachutists. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Once I've progressed to succesfully jumping from pyramids, I'll immediately jump this site. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Perhaps use a zero forward speed round then, to reduce the problems associated with heading and line twists? Also, the canopy will open slower and reduce problems with hard openings. Hopefully it wouldn't open too slow to be inappropriate for a 300' bridge over water. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

I have a philosophy in life: "no regrets." Think about being in a hospital bed paralyzed, criticizing yourself for not listening to your little voice saying "this is all wrong," even when nothing really is wrong other than an ESP event. At that point, who wants to jump when one feels it's so uncool and unpleasant, except to feed our fragile egos that we actually conquered a fear that we've repeatedly conquered. yes, there is more danger driving to the site than jumping. I drive to all my sites at a minimum speed of at least 170mph! Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

ESB? It was the WTC. In early 1992 I believe. Slider down from 1350'. Jump and dump. Maybe 2 seconds. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

600' E in Sept 92. Some more cliffs in 1993. Got active in 1994. Got some antennas. First building jump was a control tower at an active international airport in the US. Other building jumps followed. A couple years later, I finally got my S at Bridge Day 96 on my 100th jump, to complete the BASE cycle, earning BASE 460. First jumper to go off at the Bridge Day event. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
