    Slider Up/Down Idea

i think i misinterpreted your original suggestion. You were suggesting using slider up configuration using essentially a low air resistance slider in place of going slider down? Air resistance is not the only key since the friction of the lines with the grommet do slow the process down. A slider with only the outside tapes may present some unknown entanglement issue... the law of unintended consequences. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

    Slider Up/Down Idea

in the event of a line over, the line responsible for this is generally a brake line. the jumper releases the toggle on the offending side using a line release modified toggle system. if the brake lines are routed through the slider, upon release of the toggle, the toggle will most likely hang on the riser grommet, causing uncertain results. the slider is generally attached to the front risers when jumper slider down (vs slider removed). in the case of a toggle/grommet hangup, the lineover may not clear. there are many other unpleasant scenarios that could easily occur. the list goes on and on. 7. pbasetobe's toggle design: yellow cables need constant attention for nicks and brittleness. brittleness is a particular issue in extremely cold environments. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

    Quote of the Week

That seems like the wording of "A Clockwork Orange," the book. Here's a quote I liked from some guy named Chris Stokely: "Money is like oxygen - without enough you die, and beyond a certain point it doesn't really add that much more to your quality of life." And one from Steve Morrell: "Put on your gear and die like a man!" Now we are mixed company, the following saying is weakened: "Put on your gear and die like a ... person!" Rick and Joy?

Rick is one of the VIPs with the Army Corps of Engineers. Rick and Joy have been relocated to a different location from Galveston island. His home is just outside of the the extremely vulnerable Bayou Vista area, just North of the water ways that form the barrier with Galveston Island. They are at a central command center in West Houston, in a hotel. I hope the hotel survives without any issues. Rick is a very clever and resilient man and should be able to take care of Joy and protect her. Hopefully Rick can be of invaluable assistance to the citizens and infrastructure of the area. Joy has the list and it is her top priority to preserve it. Darn I cannot stop this bold font. Godspeed, Chris Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

  18. I always thought a 300 foot bridge with a small round parachute over nearly still water with a pca to be the safest, assuming a rescue boat is below. i have a friend who put 5 jumpers off this sort of site in one day, none of whom had ever made a skydive or base jump. I always viewed a person's reaction to the environment without any prior adrenaline-like experience to be highly unpredictable in people, with definite physiological advantages in some and not in others. 19. Cool and wise words Mr. Nick. I'm glad you joined and reminded everyone of the history we perpetually repeat! I had around 40 skydives when I started BASE, from cliffs. That's where I met Ritchie. And I too think it was foolish. take care, Chris Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
  20. There is a history here: Jamie Walton was a 17 year old kid who was put off on a number of jumps before he made a skydive. He ended being seriously hurt on a large cliff in northern Cali because he didn't know how to track. There was another jumper (BASE 75) who made 100 base jumps before he ever made a skydive. He was I think 16 when he made his first jump. The center page of his high school yearbook was of his jumping exploits. He's still around and still jumps, but not that much anymore. Nick Di G. knows who this is! Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
