  1. All pilots are made of zero p material. You likely meant to say ordinary zero p, not the new ZPX material. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. My old PD210 was fixed by the factory after an encounter with soybeans and a later major tear of about 6 feet - all new center cell. It was great after the repair. I still stood up the landing even with the 6 foot long tear. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 3. The salt from sweating on the center cell causes them to fail much sooner than the rest of the canopy I think that it would definitely be worth more than the total repair cost, if you were to sell it soon after the repair. You would be advertising a canopy with unknown number of jumps, but with new lines and new center cell after a thorough inspection (the factory inspecting and repairing it is a big plus). If I were in the market for a used canopy, that sounds more attractive than many other deals out there, where they just promise that it is in great shape, with some claim of 600 or so jumps. 5. I've had a non-collapsible PC for about 250 out of my 280 jumps under a Pilot 168 at 1.2. Can anyone make a good argument for me getting a collapsible PC when I'm not currently doing anything requiring more performance? I think you probably would notice the difference in performance. I noticed it when I installed a collapsible PC at a WL of 1.10. As others have already stated,an inflated PC will not only slow your canopy, but it changes the angle of attack of the canopy by causing the suspended weight (you) to pitch farther forward. An inflated PC distorts the canopy by pulling at the center, causing the airfoil shape to be distorted. The extra drag, change in angle of attack, and distortion of the wing all add up to a performance change that will be noticed, even at your wingloading, and even if you never ever swoop. You won't fly as far, and the flare won't be as powerful. It is worth the cost. 6. I don't know how many of American Airlines 757s you've been in command of . Captain Ralph Kolstad with American has an opposing view to yours. DLJ Is that really all you got? Even if that plane was built to record that data, it could have been disconnected later. Even if some American Airlines 757s are provided from Boeing with that data being recorded, it doesn't mean that all of them are. Every airplane can be different, sometimes they are, I used to do this kind of stuff for them (Flight deck design). Seriously, you brought up a number of really trivial "problems", and even you admitted that they weren't such a problem when reasonable explanations were offered. Why is this door position data not the same? You have been provided these troublesome little "problems" by the conspiracy theorists. What they don't bother to tell you is that each one of them is actually not a problem -is easily understood as nothing unusual, and the conspiracy theorists know it. Therefore, they are lying with each and every one of these "problems". Why do you think that they will do any different for this door "issue"? 7. No need for any glue at all. Use a pair of needle-nose pliers to turn one end over about 5mm. Insert the closed pliers into the other end and open the pliers to expand the tubing. Now take a pair of hemostats or similar instrument to grab the turned over end of the tubing and insert it into the opened end. Carefully slide the tubing off the pliers and you're done. No need to glue anything, just put the joined end at the base of the larks head knot when you install the tubestow. 8. That is a great question. I do not think I would have cutaway because that thought crossed my mind but I felt I was entirely too low. I probably would have continued to pump my risers as hard as I could have and then hold them back as hard as I could in order to try to get the canopy into the flair. But I honestly can't say for sure what I would have done. You say you would "pump your risers", do you mean the toggles, or the risers? We must be sure you are correctly describing your thoughts. You should not trust what I'm going to tell you now, don't trust it at all until you run it past your instructors and it makes sense to you...but please consider... As another said, what is important to understand is that you had full ability to stop your spiral after the first brake released. You only had to pull down that toggle that released back to the point where the loop is at the ring on the riser - this is recreating the condition of when both toggles are stowed. Your spiral/turn would have stopped and you'd fly straight. There is absolutely no need to cut away from this condition just because you can't get one, or even both brakes to release. If only one side releases, then your flare will be a little less effective and the flare might happen a bit faster than normal because the canopy will be starting from a partially flared condition to begin with, but that is really not at all an unsafe thing to do (the stowed position is not pulling down very far on the toggles. It is very important that you realize that your canopy would need to be flown in an "offset" manner, to flare you will end with one toggle all the way down like normal, and the other (that did not release), will only come down to your chest as you experienced during your controllability check. That will result in an "even/straight" flare, the only difference from normal is that it will be from a partial brake position. Flaring from a partially braked condition is actually very useful when it is necessary to land in a very tight area, and is often described as "sinking in" your canopy, or an "accuracy approach". When you "sink in" your canopy, you can correct for going long or coming up short of your intended spot by applying a bit more or less toggle input to adjust your angle of descent. The descent of a large canopy in a half to deep brake condition should be slow enough that you can PLF a landing with no flare at the end, just a steady descent rate with less than normal forward speed.l A variation of this technique that is more commonly seen is when someone is going long, they might apply some brakes for a short time, but then go back to full flight with plenty of altitude to spare so that they don't hit the ground while the canopy surges forward (and it does surge dangerously forward, especially if you let the toggles up quickly). Some tandem instructors use this technique to get extra airspeed from the surge for a more effective flare, but you can also kill yourself. I am only advising you learn more about how this "sinking it in" technique is done and why it is useful - DO NOT just try it out yourself at this stage in your jumping career - it deserves serious discussion with an instructor. I think it is reasonable to do some of this stuff at high altitude (after discussion with your instructor). To get back to your incident, the danger of doing an "offset" flare as I described is that the brake that didn't release might decide to do so right at the time you are flaring, and that would quickly cause you to turn/dive at just the wrong time (that could really hurt). You might be able to quickly compensate if that occurred, but I wouldn't expect to be able to react quickly enough. That risk can be avoided by pulling down the toggle by the nose - at least one finger on both sides of the brake line so that the nose of the toggle is horizontal (no chance for the loop to come off the end of the nose of the toggle as you flare if you hold it like this). If the loop were right at the end of the nose then it would not be possible to do this. All of this stuff is not natural for a new jumper to have thought about, but I think it is worth discussing so that you and others can gain valuable knowledge. As long as you realize that advice you get from the internet might be simply wrong, misinterpreted or misapplied, and you take responsibility to thoroughly review it with your instructors, then you are going to be accelerating your learning curve (a good thing). Be careful out there. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 9. Long Division, she says, and it is College Algebra 1314 find for quotient and remainder Of course, but it seems to be "messy", with a lot left over after the obvious -2x^2 in the quotient. Perhaps if you can post your solution, after all you should just be able to multiply it back together to get the original. This is the problem as the prof sent it out and it has been somewhere close to 24 years since I have had to think this way. I came up with x^4 +3 (x^4+3)(3x^2-2x) gives you 3x^6-2x^5+9x^2-6x Since it gives you a 6th order term, something is not right with that answer. 11. Is the problem just to simplify the expression as much as possible? It is an unusual problem that doesn't seem to lend itself to simplifying. 13. It is especially awful when professional athletes do it because they set trends. The announcers should be ridiculing them. If it were kryptonite, maybe that would do something useful, but not titanium. It is as stupid as the irenew bracelets. 16. How did you make that conclusion? i think that the chances that you get two out in this kind of cases are very big... which means that those two things have real chance of entaglement. And this video just proves this assumption. He almost got engtaglement of main and reserve. It was a pure luck it did not happend! if he brakeaway and preferably also manualy release the risers prior the deployment of reserve and pull reserve, the main would probably jump out from the container as well but would not get enough force to be pulled out of the deployment bag and would be blown away all together. This decresses the chances of entaglement of main and reserve lines. in the first case with both risers still attached and real chance of main deployment the number of points and time period where entaglement can occure is much higher than in the second case. and in this particular case I would frist try to reach for the PC or bridle and pull it manualy before I execute the reserve procedure. I believe it is wrong to be so confident about your conclusions. The chance for a 2 out situation or entanglement must be balanced against the chance for the departing main to snag the reserve. It is not a settled issue on which is best. I think it is very important to realize this incident strongly indicates toward not cutting away. As others have said in this thread, this very unusual incident would very likely have resulted in death had the main been released. This is a decent thread dealing thoughtfully with the subject (of course my posts are the most thoughtful : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2411689;search_string=army;#2411689 People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 18. Your assumptions are what makes your calculation quite invalid. Even after just 2 seconds of falling, the speed will be about 40% less with the effect of air resistance than you would achieve without it (your assumption). That effect is even greater as you fall longer. It takes a lot more time and distance to reach 35 m/s than you have figured. Not only that, but when has anyone needed to have their AAD save them in such a scenario? 20. Yet you will start a fight and insult people. That is funny. "You should probably have an understanding of something before spouting off about it" And what about not playing the player? "Oh gee, Larry the Cable Guy chimes in." Quite right. If we want to have SC be a place where it is more of a civil atmosphere, then the mods should set an example. If we don't want it to be civil, then the mods should set an example. When the mods are so often rude, it isn't so far to go to where it is a personal attack. 21. Trunks are not sealed. The interior of a car is not sealed. There is an outlet valve in cars that is typically located at the side of the trunk. The valve is hidden by the carpet of the trunk, and allows air from interior to exit by the rear wheel well. The valve (about 8x3 inches in area) will typically have some very light weight film to act as a one-way valve so that air can't so easily get into the vehicle. When you have the fan on, it makes it so that air travels from the front all the way to the back seats and then out through the trunk. The pressure can still see a spike when you close doors, especially the trunk, but it is not sealed, and pressure can't rise due to being out in the sun etc. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 22. I have experienced very off heading openings with my Katana in my Infinity when I put the risers under both flaps. This problem was resolved by stowing them on top of the one set of flaps (as you would with a Wings etc). What is VSE's actual recommendation on this as the manual does not seem to address it?
