  1. I think it is likely true, but it was liberal political vitriol that was possibly to blame. For this guy, Gifford wasn't liberal enough - how did he get whipped up into a frenzy - by liberals that didn't like a centrist in their party. Please understand I really don't blame liberal vitriol, I blame the shooter, or course, duh. But I do wish people would stop assuming a dem can only be denounced by repubs, that hatred toward someone only comes from those outside their group. She voted against Pelosi! She wasn't so popular in her own party. She had crosshairs on her from within her own party leadership! A liberal nutter would get motivated more by that than anything Palin would think about her, duh! People must be free to spew vitriol. It is important for our overall freedom, seriously. They can then be denounced for being vitriolic, but that is a long step from inciting violence. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. geez, people keep using the term and pretty soon, boogies are just going to be a great big festival of people walking up and unilaterally slapping others just to feel better. and it's not their fault, it's blogger using violent terms - like 'face palm' - that makes them do it, rather than their own choice to slap another.... (as far as I know, 'face palm' is a moisturizer....) can't we stop the violence now? - this just facilitates angry fights --- for the children. Let's start using the term 'face caress' and fix the world edit: for the children (and the puppies) I'm really not hip with the net-lingo. I thought would mean something like "talk to the hand" or whatever hip thing is said lately. Such vitriol! People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. Now you're just trolling Perhaps the guy was pissed of at Gifford for not supporting Immigration reform as she was supposed to. All the hate and vitriol from libs (including lib leaders in congress) directed at those that didn't support their position may have inspired him to kill her. That speculation is just as valid as the speculation that he was motivated by conservatives I wasn't referring to the (obviously mentally ill) shooter's own motivations. I was responding to your own utter bullshit of liberals have absolutely been the worst offenders in the lead in this regard. Doesn't even merit a rebuttal; just a . Your non-rebuttal rebuttal wallows in a vast sea of lameness. That, and I'm absolutely correct. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  4. I said that it was stupid, how is that defending? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  5. Quite right, it is bad form, which is why whatever lib groups it was shouldn't have done it to Gifford. Such a thing from a liberal group (which did happen from more than one source) is more likely to motivate a lib nutter. Such a thing from a conservative group would not motivate a lib nutter. I really just think it is bad form, people should be able to do such things freely, including telling supporters to argue with and get in the face of your friends and neighbors, as Obama did. Not quite, since the nutter that shot Gifford was a self described liberal, he would not be taking cues from Palin, instead he might have taken a cue from the lib groups that had Gifford in the crosshairs. All of this should mean that Gifford was pretty centrist, able to piss off both sides on different issues. My kinda person. Such an absolute, and so wrong. I thought you didn't like it when people generalized. Apologies are much more warmly embraced when offered by libs than conservatives. If only you had the ability to see that bias... People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  6. This is something upon which we can agree. Reagan's move was bad. I can find things that he did were bad, like I can find things I like about Clinton and Obama. Too late...that wasn't just a whoosh, it was a sonic boom...past before you even knew it was coming People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 8. Given that the shooter is a self described big time liberal (no doubt about this fact), one would not expect him to take cues from Palin. Indeed being a target of Palin would make Gifford popular among liberals. I don't think the guy shot Gifford for being a liberal. He much more likely did it because she wasn't liberal enough. She is quite a conservative leaning Dem. One would be more correct to presume he was inspired by liberal hatred and vitriol, there is plenty of it. Therefore, your point makes little sense. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  9. It is not worthy of a presidential candidate such as Obama. He should have been above that sort of stuff. Everyone should. Still, it is wrong to place responsibility for the actions of others based upon it. 10. But Gifford had "sights" on her from lib groups also, and hatred was directed toward her for voting against Pelosi. That, along with her not towing the line established by her Dem leaders in congress can lead one to presume (with equally flimsy/unjustified validity) that the guy was motivated by liberal philosophy. Kinda like how Tim McVeigh was accused by Clinton of being motivated by Limbaugh, when he admitted explicitly that it was the Waco fiasco that pushed him over the edge. Even Obama has been guilty of plenty of explicitly violent rhetoric. Perhaps Obama inspired him. Libs should be the first to apologize for pushing the level of vitriol so far. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  11. Of course I realize. It is really stupid, just like the automatic reaction from libs. But this is SC, if we can't say stupid stuff here, where can we? But libs should be the first to apologize for pushing the level of vitriol so far. 13. I think it is really stupid to have used cross hairs on anybody in anyway. I think it is really stupid for well known journalists to wish death upon V.P Cheney, for movies and books to depict the assassination of Pres Bush, for Chris Matthews to hope for someone to kill Rush Limbaugh, for members of congress to say that conservatives are killing children (trying to inciting violence), to use Paul Wellstone's funeral for similar purposes, and on and on and on. Liberals should be the first to be pushed to cut it out. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 14. Quite right! The level of vitriol and hatred has been pretty high for a long time. However, liberals have absolutely been the worst offenders in the lead in this regard and really should knock it off. 15. Quite right, I knew better, just a brain lock while writing. Anyway, according to Airtek, we don't need to be concerned about the difference in battery usage, but the myth of leaving it on being better should be firmly busted. 16. This is not correct, for more info: http://www.pcprg.com/cyprespc.htm Unfortunately not all discussions of this topic results in the correct info. So, consider that the unit uses about/at most around 100 times less power at 'rest' compared to when the LED is on/calibrating. Turning off the unit takes, say 10 seconds or so. So if the unit were on for 100*10=1000 seconds or about 16 minutes, then you are better to turn it off. Even with the assumptions that I haven't listed, or even if it is 1000 times less power, then it would be about 2.5 hours for the break even point. So I think it is fairly safe to make the obvious conclusion - turning it off manually saves battery power compared to letting it time out after 14 hours. The reason why the battery voltage is lower when the ammeter was connected is because a parallel circuit is established, the measurement affects the system by draining some power. A more expensive meter with a higher impedance would use less. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 17. The service provider should let those requesting the service know that they will be getting a bill. TANSTAAFL. Try some personal accountability on for size. You got it wrong. 19. Your missing the entire concept if you need that explained to you. No, I get it, but I don't think you get how others see the big picture. When they're on the way to the site of a rescue, they have to be thinking, "I hope they didn't already buy a card." People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  20. Therefore if you bought a permit thingy for a few bucks then you don't have to worry about any additional expenses, if not then there is no limit to the cost. Why not just make them buy the permit thing afterward? Buying the permit card thing doesn't make anyone less likely to need a rescue, it just shows they already contributed to the rescue fund, no difference in the end if they bought it before vs after. Perhaps they just want to be able to collect big time when they are lucky enough to rescue someone that didn't already contribute a few bucks. 21. In general, I think that is a great idea... however here in Colorado I don't think that it's feasible, given the high volume of search and rescue missions. However, here we can buy a Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue (CORSAR) Card for only $3/yr and it covers any needed search and rescue via fund donations.
  22. That is impossible (a brief description). They apparently designed it without any consideration for how non-intuitive the user interface would be. The pro-track is also very cumbersome to use, but I think they went to a higher level (worse) with the optima and viso, which is amazing as they had several years to realize how to improve their next generation of products. It leads me to conclude that they never actually watched a new user try to figure it out. Not only is the user interface awful, the manual is also a POS. Mads Larsen admitted to me that they spent too much time on the product and not enough on the interface and manuals. I have a pro-track, optima II and viso II. 23. Quite right! The extras showed up because they were bored/saw it as an opportunity to get some training, even if just by watching others do it. The guy that got rescued should charge the city for providing the training opportunity. 24. Quite right! I wonder what is the legal basis for the city to bill an individual. Perhaps cities already have the ability to do that legally. I wonder how the case would go if a person doesn't pay and defends that position aggressively. So many hypothetical situations to consider, so many instances where people could be considered negligent, or where people could be judged as doing unnecessarily risky things. I would hope that such arbitrary decisions about who should have to pay wouldn't stand up well in court. Fire departments aren't a private business trying to make a profit, and their equipment and regularly employed people are going to be there and on duty even if nobody needs help. So the only costs incurred are expendables and any extra equipment maintenance. That assumes people on-call people did not have to be brought in, and that other municipalities did not have to cover calls during the time their resources were busy. A cynical person could say that the emergency calls serve as training opportunities.
