More red and white, and less blue would increase that. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

It is great that you knew S-turns would help your situation, and that you didn't just freeze up. Doing that when a lot of other jumpers are in the air around you will be no good as it increases collision risk. There are some other things that help when you are going long and want to make your glide path steeper, such as using a braked approach, which is also not appropriate for crowded skies but you should know about it anyway. Learn what braked turns and flare turns are as they can save you from getting broken when you're in a bad situation. Review all these things with your instructors to understand when/where they are appropriate and when they are not. sundevil777 replied to sunkenstate's topic in Gear and Rigging
You should be reminded that a 4k landing will be a bit different than you've been used to. The wing is not as efficient, turns will result in a bit more altitude lost than before... It is my theory, without any substantiation, that tapping on the altimeter is perhaps the most stress that is put on the inner mechanism during normal use. No reason to do it unless you actually think it has stuck. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. No, didn't you read the manual! It clearly says that you can't use the alti as you normally would if your DZ is above 1k elevation. Not really, you can use it even if your DZ is in Tibet. When you turn the dial, you're just moving the face relative to the mechanism (or mechanism relative to face), There is no stress or strain applied to the mechanism at all. I wouldn't expect to have that much time. I would expect the balloon pilot to want all to leave within a fairly brief time. Thread bump, as the film will debut in Houston on July 13. So, if he's not different from the previous bunch, and (presumably, it has been said by many others) the previous bunch was so bad, then BO is really bad. If GB and BO and their bunch were/are equally/comparably bad (and I definitely don't agree), I'd still much prefer GB, or just about anyone else the opposition has to offer, or even some alternatives from BO's political party. A lot of people take that much time or more to drive to the DZ. You're able to do other things during that time. I wish I had 2 trains and a bus that could get me there in 2 hours. Aren't we a bit premature in concluding that a reserve too large for the container is at fault for this incident? I agree that overstuffed reserve containers is a problem. It has been shown to contribute to PC launch hesitation and freebag extraction issues, but it doesn't seem that we know enough to assign fault yet for this incident. Scotchgard has been used for a long time by many, and has been discussed often in this forum. I've put it on my new rigs and it has allowed me to clean grease, jet fuel and grass stains even from white areas of my rigs easily. Cleaning stains with a toothbrush and a little woolite mixed with water works great. Scotchgard must not be damaging to non-zero P canopies, at least as demonstrated by its extremely liberal use by me (heavy application-really soaked it) on a main that I used for 3 years after doing so. What is "perceived" about it? The USPA has failed us in this regard and now we're facing a serious threat by the FAA. I am not surprised in the least. How have they failed us? I see many duplicate classified ads. Apparently people have some trouble while placing ads, maybe thinking they've not actually completed the process and then doing it again. Many of the duplicates have one of the copies where there is no "section" such as mains/reserves/complete systems/etc. They just get listed as under "classifieds", at least when you look at them by viewing all the new ads. It would be nice to know how that happens, maybe some of the duplicates could be eliminated. I don't know how you'd get an ad in without choosing a "section", as it appears to be a necessary part of the process. That conclusion appears to say that you would be happier to not know that your AAD was not meeting the original specifications (assuming the extra time was needed to make repairs in Germany instead of just slow shipping). Consider that a Cypres can seem to have no problems at all, no problems during the start-up self-test, and then when SSK does the full series of tests including accuracy/resolution at the fire/no fire limits , high/low temp, vibration, etc it failed to meet the original standards. Does this mean it would have necessarily failed to save your life if needed? No, but it does mean that the mfg is not comfortable with the self test being the only check on the proper function of the unit, and for very good reason - some fail! The self test can't check things to the same extent as can be done at the factory. Given the fact that some units with no self-test errors have to be sent back for more extensive work after failing the std maintenance test series confirms that we should not trust a self test as the only check during its lifetime. The self test cannot simulate a jump (simulate the pressures on the transducer) to test the entire system, and cannot test it in harsh environmental conditions. It just is a partial check of the health of the electronics. The 4 and 8 year checks are a high priority, there is nothing to justify your conclusion that they are not. The Cypres II has a +/- 6 month window over which the testing can be done. Owners should just do a little more planning or less complaining. I don't believe that. Just because pilots don't do something correctly doesn't mean they never got the training, albeit likely not enough of the training taken seriously. For that event it was only the flight management computer that was measuring fuel usage from a starting fuel load that was input manually (in the wrong units of course). The fuel quantity indication system was inoperative because it was in fact not reliable (accurate) enough at the time of the introduction of the 767 to service. That's right, fuel quantity gauges were not part of the minimum equipment list. The fuel quantity system was part of the minimum equipment list, but was inadvertently left inoperative by a maintenance worker who was working on the system. The flight crew decided to continue the flight because they thought that maintenance had authorized the flight. The real problem however was that an incorrect mathematical conversion between metric and imperial units meant that the plane was carrying 22,300 lbs. of fuel (10,115 kg) instead of the 22,300 kg of fuel it needed, less than half. I see now that you're correct - maintenance errors left the fuel quantity system inop. The crew operations guys I worked with on the 777 said that the fuel quantity indication system was inop on the introduction to service of the 767, and was not part of the minimum equip list on introduction. Obviously, that had changed by the time of the Gimli incident a year later. If the rescission period hasn't lapsed under Colorado buyers' remorse laws (I'm guessing she's still there; although if not other states have similar laws) I'd run the numbers for trade-in value, retail price on the new car, and loan payments over five years from a credit union not making a profit on her and make the _strong_ suggestion you guys renegotiate. Quite right! Even having to pay a lot of money n order to cancel the whole deal would be worth it. Just got my A license...what do I do now?
sundevil777 replied to aatif96's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Congrats on being able to get the A in the min number of jumps. I get the impression that is rare, and likely means that you're very comfortable flying, which often translates to very good flying. My advice is that you dedicate yourself as much to weight loss as you did to getting that A in the min jumps. Getting the weight off will greatly open up the available used rigs that would work for you, and jumpsuits...much better to lose the extra influence of gravity before you buy gear than after. Incorrectly stowed brake -> minor malfunction & damage
sundevil777 replied to sunkenstate's topic in Safety and Training
I would not expect you to have a difficult time pulling on the left toggle if it wasn't stowed correctly as you describe (and it already was released during opening). If the R turn was due to the left side already being unstowed, then there should not have been any resistance to pulling it down, unless the toggle had been pulled partially through the ring. Perhaps the toggle shows some evidence of this. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. The case was a sexual harassment case (a very severe one at that), and the ML affair was relevant because the affair with an intern made him look guilty in the harassment of PJ. Just because much of the international media misreported things doesn't change what the PJ case was about, and why Clinton was testifying about the ML affair as part of the PJ case.
