In the video, he claims that the mantix position with the lower center of pressure makes turning faster. The mantis position makes turning faster because of the relative effectiveness (force) of the surface presented to the wind, and the distance from the CG, not at all because of the CP/CG relative position. This relative position has an effect on pitch stability, and roll stability (therefore also effects your ability to slide in any direction), but does not at all effect yaw stability.     I sold my Swift Plus 200 (1992 vintage), with one low speed opening, 3 years ago for $350. I had first advertised it for $400. I wanted to upsize (I had actually thought it was a 175) and bought a new 225 version gathering dust on a shelf for only $550. The Swift Plus doesn't have as much resale value as PD reserves.     Automotive accessories purchased from the dealer are widely accepted as having incredibly high mark-ups. The only thing I wish to see is that the stainless be recognized for the same thing. Some other options/add-ons are not treated the same (my hook knife example). Part of having capitalism work is to have an educated consumer putting market forces to bear. As more people recognize stainless as way overpriced, and the mfgs become aware of this, the pricing structure might change. Again, I am benefitting from the current pricing structure, as others have said, my rig is way cheaper because so many are willing to be raped off by choosing stainless.     Embroidery, for example, I expect to be expensive, a lot of extra value-added labor involved. If I get a hook knife option on a rig, we know the mark-up on this option is actually very low (typically around $25 for high quality aluminum knives that sell by themselves for about $20, and that includes extra work of maybe a little pocket stiching & snap). So why is it that different 'pass thru' parts should get different treatment for the amount of mark-up? Because they can. I am not inclined to pay so much for stainless on my rig, so I benefit from the current pricing structure.

    Formerly working for a manufacturer, and being in the industry for a *few* years, I can tell you that the cost from the suppliers is that much higher.     I was asked to open both the main and reserve. The supervisor said it was recently ordered as mandatory to do it, superceeding the TSA policy we have available. Of course I have no idea why he would make this up, besides wanting to be an asshole. If you go walking up to a plane with a rig over your shoulder, how are you going to check it when they just tell you no-you can't carry it on?     Thanks Eric. It is encouraging to know that the ice is likely much of my problem. All the more reason to stick with what I can already do, since it is usually icy. The whole family went Saturday, they will go without me tomorrow because I can't even breath hard without pain.     Sounds like the work of baggage handlers instead of customs/security. There was a group that got caught a few years ago. Not nearly enough of that type of 'sting' is done by airport security. I usually wrap my luggage in packing tape after it is screened. Makes my bag look like it belongs to a poor person, and it is an immediate sign of tampering if it is cut.     Ya, I was on the bunny slope. They suck! Why would I think there is some advantage to the board? Turning off the unit takes, say 10 seconds or so. So if the unit were on for 100*10=1000 seconds or about 16 minutes, then you are better to turn it off. Even with the assumptions that I haven't listed, or even if it is 1000 times less power, then it would be about 2.5 hours for the break even point. So I think it is fairly safe to make the obvious conclusion - turn it off manually even if you don't drive up/down hills on the way home.     For all riggers that disapprove of the use of Slinks or other, reserve TSO'd brand links for brand X reserves: Do you refuse to pack a rig that comes to you already in that condition? I think there are VERY few riggers that will not repack a rig because of this. So, riggers by their collective action are using their license to determine compatibility to outweigh any supposed requirements of reserve or cotainer mfg. That's just the way that it is....
