  1. Easy does it, I was just suggesting that Trent's post might have meant something different. However, if we do in fact gain the understanding of how gay or straight get 'wired in', then there are a lot of complicated questions that will arise if we are able to affect the outcome. Very interesting questions indeed. The possible implications are obvious and worthy of discussion. 2. I can see it now, the VRW creeper ad in the peapit.com! People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. I don't know if you can find anything in google, but the feminization or masculinization of the fetus is something that would need to be dealt with at the time it occurs, because the "hormonal bath" helps to form the developing fetal brain. It's not something that can be "cured" after birth with hormones. rl Maybe Trent meant treatment during fetal development, instead of after birth. 5. They aren't kidding, are they? This is actual doctine? Wow. I thought it was just a simple self-help cult too. No, they really aren't kidding. Here's one site with more info: http://www.scientomogy.com/index.php This article in Rolling Stone magazine is pretty good: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/9363363/inside_scientology People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 6. The article is hardly convincing. The article refutes itself with the case of the identical twins not having the same orientation. 7. I listen to plenty of NPR. I heard a story on NPR back in December that was an interview of a soldier that had recently returned from Iraq. The correspondent started the story introduction by ominously saying that the soldier "still could not see the light at the end of the tunnel". A little later the interview actually started. I expected to hear an obviously liberal leaning soldier stating his objections to the war/policy. I was surprised to hear his story of support for the war, and inspiring stories of how things are improving so much. There wasn't anything at all about "no light at the end of the tunnel". The headline/intro was completely out of step. News reporting suffers from bias. NPR/PBS is biased. CNN is biased. BBC is biased. Fox News is biased... 9. No, I think they are better off having another reminder in case of/when they do lose altitude awareness. They should never hear it, and they know the disadvantages of screwing up enough to hear it. Why not do both? They are already dependant on their visual altimeter. 12. It is easy to think of scenarios that make the case either way. I think we can agree that students are already dependant on visual altimeters. I would think the motivation to not fail a level would prevent laziness, the students know darn well they don't want to hear the tone, they should never hear it unless they're in big trouble. If they blow past the flat line tone altitude (but without an audible), I think they are likely to get to cypres activation altitude also. 15. Quite right, that is a reasonable daily rate. It is quite reasonable to approach your DZ operator about getting something negotiated. Don't be demanding, just honestly let them realize you have alternatives now that you have your A license. 16. I say wrong. I would deploy the main and see how much cable is left through the loops. If it is just barely enough, you might be able to push a little more of the excess up through. 18. You really should be able to get a break on that gear rental fee, especially if you start talking to a gear dealer that is affiliated with the DZ. After that many jumps where you've already rented, and if they know you're waiting for your own gear, it is not unreasonable, I think, to approach them about working out something. I realize you jump at San Diego, but I think that Square One (a dealer with a real store and big online presence) at Perris will allow you to jump their rental rigs (which are very good quality, modern stuff) for free while waiting for your rig that you've ordered through them. Because Square One has very competitive prices, it is hard to not go with that deal. If the folks at San Diego realize that you're about to go to Perris to save a lot of money on gear rental, they might decide to do the same for you. Of course all of that assumes that you buy a new rig, if you're going to buy used, you can obviously get it fast. There are a lot of reasons to try to find quality used gear at your experience level, unless you have lots of money. 19. Ah yes, good old conservative, freedom-loving, stay-out-of-people's-business values. I'd also prefer that cigarretes could be outlawed, I think you might agree that libs are bigger advocates of this position, right? Actually, outlawed is too strong a term. I just wish there was a lot less of both used. I'm not quite so predictable as you might think. 20. Certainly! Drink responsibly ads are bullshit. There are anti smoking groups that know how to show the ugly side of smoking. Why not show how uncool and unglamorous real world drunks are? 23. Just need a user awareness sensor added on to the device... Seriously, take it easy on the guy, he should be able to ask such questions without too much abuse. At least he is thinking about how gear works and emergency procedures. Many with a lot more experience that wouldn't even think of asking such a question can't assemble a 3-ring.
