I just read your last speakers corner post. Seems like saying fuck you and arguing isn't exactly the same thing no? My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

It seems to be working though, I think it's great. Not in quality website design sort of way either. It bothers people and it's gaining popularity because of it. Not a bad idea! My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Skyball (or something close to it)
hookitt replied to Cashmanimal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A few comments That ball isn't terribly fast. It's not slow, but it's not overly fast either. The guy it was thrown towards was in a slow falling body position and the diving position was a good indicator of the speed as well. Fall rate must be matched first. Tossing it without knowing fall rate is a mistake. Until you figure it out, no more than 2 people. You must have enough skill and judgment to not let the ball go in. If the ball is inevitably going in, you need enough judgment to not follow it passed your hard deck. I’ve seen more than one AAD fire by someone following a ball. That jump was over an area that seems void of obstacles and livestock (or so it appears). Are you certain that letting it land unattended is not going to damage anything? Multiple people were chasing the ball during that jump. The ball is a center point where people chasing will meet. It’s a target. Collisions come is varieties from mild bumping to bone breaking and even death causing. Yeah sounds obvious but when 2 people are diving towards something and the lower person stops diving, the fall rate change is drastic. Hitting each other at 40 miles per hour is bad. Think about just running towards each other until you hit each other. That’s probably 11 to 15 mph It would hurt. 40 plus closing speed is a lot worse. If you are certain that letting the ball go in isn't going to harm anything then: - Let the ball go and match fall rate. - Fly relative to the ball. - Learn to grab the ball and put it back in the air - Repeat. - At 5 grand you are finished. Catch the ball and don't let it go. That's about all I'm going to get into for now. Don't run into each other and don't hit anything important on the ground. A ball traveling 120 and faster will cause havoc to whatever stops it. Good luck. Have fun and don’t die. Cheers -

I didn't actually think you meant that it was zero. In general, I agree with you. Pardon my lack of details in my previous post since I believe your intended meaning is accurate. Here's why I agree. If you just skydive and fly a canopy for fun and transportation back to the ground, chances are you are not practicing skills that may be needed in BASE. Many people do not choose to advance their skills simply to be a better skydiver. Those are the people that are not prepared or are preparing to BASE jump either. Many people are part of this group. They see BASE jumping and want to do it with a mindset that they have 400 skydives so it must be ok to BASE. This group is often filled with people that also believe that landing off the dropzone is really scary and dangerous. That's not good. If you are using your time to train as a skydiving athlete, then you are probably training to simply be skilled at canopy and body flight. This trains reaction time and judgement. Landing anywhere is second nature.

Protective gear for Ground Launching
hookitt replied to yoink's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You are probably generalizing too much. On a particular site near here, I wear lots of protective gear. If you ever get to see the places you may potentially land, you'd consider it too. I don't mean potentially land in control, I mean if you blow it and have to put it down or get put down. I definitely see the point in it and generally wear a spine protector, helmet, elbow pads, knee/shin guards and Hanwags. There are some sites, however, that I would be comfortable with less gear. That's correct... Hank is currently dating Baxter. So is base570. Quite progressive if you ask me. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Your translation of skills transfer is limited. If you are only going to do 300 skydives or less before BASE jumping then sure. However some of the best BASE jumpers and BASE canopy pilots I've seen are accomplished freeflyers with a lot of honest to goodness canopy piloting skills. Time does make a huge difference. Yes you should. Do your Circle of Awareness and check in with the remaining instructor wait for the "OK" or possible signals and move on with it. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Skydiving with Military boots VS Hangwags
hookitt replied to autoset's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There's always one. It's a simple fact that we land hard sometimes. When I needed ankle support I bought a Swed-o lace up ankle brace. Something like this. It helped out a lot. I would would have been out for much longer without it. Good luck My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -

Put the CD in the drive. Start the computer... hit F12. Select CD. Enter. Hit any key. Enter. F8. D. Enter. L. C. Enter. quick format. Enter... then follow the instructions after it restarts That's off the top of my head so I may have missed something. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Backflying with tandems (Was Rocky Point injury)
hookitt replied to davepend's topic in Safety and Training
If the 16 year old has the experience and skill, what is the problem? His age in this case should have no bearing. Many other "mature" skydivers with far less skill and judgement are allowed to fly with tandems far too often. By end of this season, I'll bet the quality of video will be top notch and performed in a very safe manner to boot. Cheers. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... The rig he jumped doesn't have a main container. Direct Bagging the main is a lot easier than carrying the d-bag and pilot chute in front of you. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -
