The Skywalk Experience at the Grand Canyon? Forget it!!
hookitt replied to dweeb's topic in The Bonfire
Hiding a rig would not be hard. There are some very low profile low bulk rigs already out that would be pretty simple to hide if the metal and additional leg padding was removed. Also, hidden rigs (good ones) are even more form fitting. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -
Stunt Junkies swoop to cutaway question

Haven't seen the show or the clip yet but I would imagine so. Technically legal or not, a skydiving rig would be the wrong tool. The method of using a TSOed rig mentioned by tornolf for legalities sake would be cumbersome. It would require yet another TSOed harness to clip it to. Backflying with tandems (Was Rocky Point injury)

I'll take that bet. I'd jump with him anyday of the week. My original post didn't go through but looks like my opinion was stated another way by the post above this one. Jarrett, I've been in some very hairy situations and survived by luck and reflexes... mostly luck. I see the points of these people even though I completely disagree with their toddler attitudes. Your points are understandable as well. Just be safe. You'll have enough to deal with even if you're trying to do everything right. Hope to see you in the air someday. Cheers. He's jumping a Javelin. My question is what makes it freefly unfriendly? Some Javelins suck big time keeping the main flap and risers shut and also don't have good bridle coverage. Is the rig in question fit that category? FlyinDawg, why did they say it's not freefly friendly? The only thing you've stated was you jump a Javelin and the coach and rigger say it's not freefly friendly but some reason it's ok to fly on your back. that's fairly cryptic. Edit: Just looked at the drawing. It' Bridle not bridal by the way. FlyDawg, is the bridle expsed? Are the main and reserve flaps secure or not so secure? how about the riser covers? I don't really care how you feel confident. If it's not "freefly friendly" and the container opens or the pilot chute launches when you don't want it too, it can ruin your day. I've watched it plenty on older Javelins. So ... why is it not freefly friendly according to the coach and why is it back fly friendly? This is how the toggles were secured on a rig I'm doing a repack on. The actual reserve pack job was very neat. I give it an *A*. Securing the toggles like shown in number 1 and 2, however, can be troublesome. It's especially inconvenient wearing gloves and trying to grab the toggles in a hurry. Please don't secure the toggles like that. Leave something to grab. That is all Thanks My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Magnetic slider stops// Hand tack slider to canopy
hookitt replied to N24's topic in Gear and Rigging
A common place to add a small 1/2 rubberband was on the attachment point of an inner C-Line. You don't see it very often with skydiving parachutes anymore. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -

Sure you can. It has been done for a long time now. I don't remember the name of the helmet and don't know if the same company even makes helmets anymore. The Canopy was stored in the helmet, not outside so it can't deploy unless the helmet is taken off. The canopy in the helmet just layed pretty flat on the top of the head where the impact foam is. A release system cutaway the chin cup and you held it as you tossed the helmet. A short lanyard was attached to the small d-bag the round canopy was in.Optionally the lanyard could be attached to the chest strap. Remove the helmet and throw it. Jesse Rodriquez, previous owner of the dz in Marina CA, had one. He actually lost one from a super hard opening and the camera filmed the entire descent then focused on the grass when it landed. Smaller Skysurf boards have a recovery chute contained on the board itelf. Larger light boards don't have recovery chutes. The canopy in the helmet just layed flat and on the top of the head. 570: I acknowledged the low airspeed... look in the () of that post. Faber. Define Line dump. Line dump is lines being left behind as the canopy is being decelerated. There is a primary stow that should be secured around a bight of lines properly. Unless the lines are pulled from that stow before line stretch, the opening is not influenced. Granted, a properly secured pouch will help the primary stow do it's job since it doesn't have a load right away and will not have to carry all the lines to line stretch. The pouch is to aid in an orderly payout but try not to be fooled that lines falling out of it causes faster openings. Lines pulled from the primary stow may, but not simply from the pouch. What you are describing is a skydiving bag strip issue. Bag strip is extremely rare. The locking stows on a bagged deployment will hold the bag shut untill the lines are yanked out. The rest of the line stows are there to get the lines off your back and away from the flap. If some how, the bag is off the canopy before line stretch, the result is likely bad. losing control of the slider while packing is blamed on line dump all the time. Locking stows are important, the rest of the stows are for neatness. Think of a slider down opening. The bight of line in the primary stow SHOULD contain the canopy to some degree. When the bight is yanked free, the entire bottom skin is allowed to spread out all at once. If that bight stays secured in primary stow until it's yanked out at line stretch, how is does that make a difference whether the lines stayed in the the pouch or not? An off heading opening will often yank your body in such a fashion that the percieved opening speed is faster. If you happen to open, say ... nearly upside down facing the object you jumped off and have to hide your head from the canopy and lines that are passing by, the opening feels rather abrupt when in fact the speed of the opening is normal. I've been redundantly repetitive enough for now. Time to go make something of the day. Cheers. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
