By the way, you can always run the drive as a slave on a known good computer with a fully updated OS and proper antivirus and malwareytes. Just put it in a USB drive bay, attach it to the good computer and scan it. That's a good place to start. There are other ways to deal with it but I'd need to sit in front of the computer. Good luck. Shit brother that's great advice! No really on a scale of 1-10 that would be about a -5. Killing hackers....it's good for the species! Any one have a better idea? Hey tool. That WAS good advice. As for the rest of your replies to this thread, thanks for the laugh. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

What don't they lie about? Fall rate? The 45 mentioned above is likely very false. You can't flare out of a track and slow down to 45 in normal skydiving clothing. Your fall rate isn't going to tell you how fast you're going horizontally. You can fall pretty slowly and be fairly stalled out. Your horizontal speed won't be as good as it could be. Using it as comparison would only be useful in conjunction with an accurate GPS. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

My reply to something like this... Ssshhhhh It doesn't seem like anything. You know you've heard it before. Be condescending and you become the old guy with an attitude. that nobody cares to listen to anymore. ----------- To devarona: As far as the canopy of choice is concerned... well, it's not the best but if you've already jumped it 50 times, it's not as if you'll replace it. Do not get me wrong, It's not the correct canopy by any means and I disagree with you having it for reasons I have seen for the past 18 years. But, since you have it, learn it, have fun and don't die. Make decisions high if you're going to land out. For a non-swooper, you need to be careful not to over control in an unexpected situation. (easier said than done... at least the first time or 2). People don't get hurt landing carefully, it's over controlling the unexpected avoidance turn. If you find yourself under that particular reserve, it's just a parachute but... it's a parachute you're not familiar with. You MUST do a canopy control check. Most of the check is finding where it stalls. Don't fold it up or anything but DO test flare it as many times as you can. The control stroke is short. Learn where it is before you get to the ground. People tend to forget to test flare their reserve. They are so excited to have had a reserve ride and think it's fragile because it's a reserve. It's not fragile. What happens is the person gets near the ground and just crams on the brakes for the first time, stalls the canopy and crash lands onto their backs. You don't have to do that. Practice flaring it and figure it out quick. Remember where the flare is and do your best guess when you land. Feel it. Prepare to PLF like you mean it....remember a PLF is a perfectly good way to land. Hope that helps. Oh yeah. The Reflex is fine. I would prefer the catapult being removed if it's still installed. I don't like the swift but I certainly don't mind it. Don't expect it to fly like you want it to, fly it like it wants you too. Good luck! I will take a wild guess you've been badgering and have been unreasonable in some manner. You'd have had some personal resolution otherwise. You will never convince me to not do business with this person. He went above many expectations on previous dealings. 2 thumbs up to the seller. [replyNow for my questions - What is a good flat track fall rate? Are my numbers even close to what I should be achieving in a flat track? Any tips on how to slow my fall rate even more? I have no Idea. I track very fast and couldn't even begin to guess my fall rate. I could show you how to go fast horizontally and the fall rate would just settle in where it does. This thread has reminded me how good things can be. If this minor (yes minor) inconvenience is one of the most heavy things on your mind, things must be going well. Be cheerful. Life is good. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

I've used this one extensively on rig, parts, harness and riser cutouts. It will even work on canopy material. It's pricey but after so much use, Ive found that It's well worth the 60 bucks. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

(R)STEERING LINE BROKE TODAY,,WHAT WOULD YOU DO.
hookitt replied to vortexr1's topic in Safety and Training
Yeah that was me. You're right, it does take some coordination and yes I realize many skydivers lack it. They also are the same ones that take 100 jumps to finally land on target standing up and get excited about it. I don't encourage blind canopy control, I do encourage exploring the range of any parachute that is above your head. That includes a reserve canopy. Practice it and use if you want to. It's especially fine on larger canopies.Do not be the person to just pull on controls for the first time near the ground and see what happens. Here's a for instance. After a cutaway, a skydiver then flies a perfectly good reserve back to the landing zone. When it's time to flare, he crams on the brakes. What happens? The canopy stalls and the pilot crashes onto their back. The other, and much better option would have been a canopy control check on the way back to the landing zone to figure out the control range. After determining how the parachute will fly, flare it accordingly and land safe. What do I teach students on their big ass navigators? Risers, or toggles, not both. Also I highly encourage canopy control checks. When they have more jumps, I offer up other suggestions to work on. 1 toggle and 1 riser etc... plus stalling, and other fun canopy maneuvers. There is no reason to stuff yourself into the ground with a control line malfunction. If the toggle is stuck, you better know if you can land it safely, or if you should cutaway instead. If you perform a reasonable canopy control check with a busted brake line and determine you can in fact flare with 1 toggle and a riser. ... set up for PLF and do what you practiced. If you choose to land rear risers instead... set up for PLF and do what you practiced. Hope that clears it up slightly. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -
How do you know? Did you see their certification? They are. I'm positive of this. I occasionally do independent AFF in lodi also. Regarding me, I'm positive I'm a current USPA member and active and current AFF instructor as well. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

(R)STEERING LINE BROKE TODAY,,WHAT WOULD YOU DO.
hookitt replied to vortexr1's topic in Safety and Training
Since we can't have a one on one conversation, I'll suggest a few things. Practice flaring with 1 toggle and one riser. . A control check, including flaring will help you decide if landing that configuration is a reasonable option. Performing a PLF is a good landing by the way. Practice PLFs. Most people do not do this and at some point really wish they had the skill to perform a proper PLF. Using 1 toggle and one riser is easy to control and stop a lighter loaded canopy. Just using risers is quite challenging. Most, and I do mean most, people do not know how to land a canopy of any wingloading with risers alone. Flaring to hard, stalling and falling backwards from 8 - 10 feet hurts. Believe that most people that will tell you to use just the risers often have no clue how to do so. Take this new oppurtunity to practice flying and flaring with just risers. Practice using 1 toggle and 1 riser to fly and flare. If a brake line breaks again, you'll find that a lower wingloaded canopy is so much easier to deal with if you use the remaining toggle. To those who say it's not symmetrical, go try it up at altitude and sort it out. Lighter wingloads are easy easy (that's 2 easys) to deal with. If I was to land my 240 7 cell with a broken brake line, I would use 1 toggle and 1 riser. I have done this already and it's great. I have landed on just risers for the heck of it. It works but is much more challenging. If I was in my old Xaos, I'd possibly opt to cutaway. On my Stiletto, I'd be more apt to land it. Again on my 240, i would land it for sure. Hope this helps. Good luck. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -

The canopy will generally not drag you if it's in full flight above your head. The moment you pull a toggle and present the bottom skin to the wind, it's no longer a wing, it's a sail or a drag chute. If you turn the canopy into the ground by pulling a toggle and holding it behind you then try to resist the wind, the wind will win. You've give the canopy the best chance to drag you on the ground that way. If you pull the toggle, keep reeling it in and run after the canopy. Get be behind it if you can so it blows up against your legs. You can also run after it and step on the bridle after the canopy passes over and walk on it till you get to the canopy. Good luck My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Is 11 jumps in your profile correct? Learn mantis flying position while you're there next time. In the long run it's better for flying and also it's easier on shoulders. Good luck! My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

Did I make the right decision not to cut away?
hookitt replied to midlifecrisis's topic in Safety and Training
My personal *vote* if it was me under the canopy: If it passed a rigorous control check, I'd land it. The load bearing seam that took the hit has more reinforcement along the rest of the seam. I trust it would stay in one piece. The color of the canopy and the sun that was shining on top was enough to see if a hole was present in the top skin. If the handling was questionable or the canopy was much smaller, I'd fly it to a better spot and cut it away. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto -

The only part that's accurate about that statement are the words *possibly dismissed*. Perfection on a ticket isn't required. Plus the ticket can be ammended. Most often the police will show up but on occasion they will not for whatever reason. Trial by written declaration helpigotaticket.com can offer suggestions as well. Good luck, that's about all I can offer at this time. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto

MALFUNCTION: what would you do if...?
hookitt replied to tumbleroll's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd throw out the main pilot chute because I doubt I'll be quick enough to pull the reserve first. If it were a vertical formation I'd pull and flatten out at the same time. What happens next may or may not be interesting. Passing 1500 feet, then turning a tracking is dumb. You're wearing a skydiving rig so pulling much lower than that is cutting all options down to nearly nothing. They're already close to nothing as it is. If you see 1500 feet, the quickest reaction is still over 1 second. Turning and tracking will put you sub 1000 and most likely, with a sniveling main canopy.
