Ya know what's funny, there are alot of people on here giving opinions because they know someone or are related to someone in law enforcement. I personally have 16 yrs of inner city law enforcement experience, and I believe these guys made a major mistake. And believe me they are paying for it in many ways, especially the national media attention. I put myself in fucked up situations daily while working. I've drawn down on the wrong people before, and yes, even a family once (without the dog though). I felt really bad but, given the circumstances at the time, I'd do it again. These guys were just trying to do their job and things went horribly wrong, their bosses will look at their records, probally discipline them according to any past troubles and move on. If I were getting my ass kicked bad, I WOULD use deadly force. I had my jaw broken once while working, during the fight I almost used deadly force however, I became REALLY pissed and kicked the guys ass until help arrived. I will shoot a dog in a minute if i feel threatened by it. It is just that.........A DOG......not a person. The rules of using deadly force apply, if I have a bad or no suitable backstop, I have to take the bite. In your perfect world zen I make those decisions in a nano second. I haven't seen the video but, the theme is starting to sound familiar. I see people bitching on here all the time about how the press makes skydiving look bad when there is an accident. Many commenting on this situation have answers based on VERY false assumptions. Skydivers HATE false assumptions about skydiving when things go bad, well, welcome to a day in my life!! There is no way I'm going to let ANY dog bite me, i don't give a shit how big or small it is. There are people on here saying the officer should have let the dog bite him, that is absolute bullshit!!! I've shot several dogs during my career, these animals presented either a danger to me or somebody else. I didn't start my shift by saying "I'm gonna kill me a dog today" Neither did these guys! The bottom line is these troopers made a decision, which in 20-20 hindsight may not have been the best one however, no people were hurt. Fuck the ACLU, We tried to get them to support a pro labor, FOP type situation once and they laughed at us. They have a heavily funded agenda that effects very few. Gear checks are very important. One way is to get into a routine while riding to altitude. Check all your inspection points ie, leg straps, chest strap, pilot chute, cutaway/reserve handle, etc, do it in the same order every time until it becomes second nature and builds muscle memory. Have someone else on the load check areas you can't see and double check the ones you can. This only takes a few seconds and can pay off big time if you forgot something!! I was doing this once at about 10,000 feet and found my chest strap undone, I got in a hurry and wham! A potentially deadly mistake! Don't rely on others and always double check what you can. I watched a jumper with two canopies out chop his main, unfortunately his RSL caught the slider on his reserve and caused him to spin into the ground. This was a VERY experienced and aware jumper. Just like everything else in this sport, there are pros and cons to every piece of equipment we use. I use an RSL because I believe the pros outweigh the cons. This jumper pulled very low during a big way attempt. He had very little time to make his choice. I hope to never put myself in that situation. On both my cutaways i think the RSL was helpful even though I didn't need it. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!"

I've jumped all over the country and i'd have to say: 1. Skydive Greene County, Xenia Ohio, hands down. 2. Skydive San Marcos, Fentress Texas 3. Ogden Skydiving Center, Ogden Utah 4. Yep, I'm working, and to top it all off we had a ten year old kid die in a fire last night. Three of our guys tried to save him and they could'nt. I'm thinking about traveling to GA this weekend for the helo jumps however, I read the reviews on the DZ and they got slammed pretty good by several people. I'm no student, but the bad vibes have me concerned. Can anyone shed any light on this, do they treat experienced jumpers from out of town well? It's a long drive and I don't want to travel all that way and find out the DZ sucks! I can't control the weather, but I can control where I spend my hard earned bucks!
