  2. You're right, you're not clear... Rockclimbing.com will continue to function as a separate site. We will share technologies and resources and look for ways to mine the synergies but the sites will continue to focus on their own domains and serve their own core communities. Safe swoops Sangiro
  3. Tom, I think it would be safe to say that that would be pretty high up on our priority list. Merging user databases come with a lot of challenges but the advantages are obvious... Safe swoops Sangiro
  4. Cape Town (South Africa), September 26, 2005. Dropzone.com and Rockclimbing.com, dominant websites for the global skydiving and rock climbing communities, announced today that they have entered into an agreement to merge their operations. With a combined membership in excess of 80,000 registered users and approximately 20 million page views per month, the merger will result in one of the largest adventure sports communities on the Internet. 5. Heya all, I wanted to write a quick note to provide you all with an opportunity to discuss the merger between Dropzone.com and Rockclimbing.com that we just announced. As some of you know I've been talking for a while about doing something similar to what we have here in the rock climbing world. Rockclimbing.com and Dropzone.com has almost identical histories and share a lot of common values. Trevor Allred founded the site about 10 years ago as a grass-roots effort because he loves to climb and wanted to create a place where climbers could get together. Rockclimbing.com grew to a point where Trevor had to make some decisions about his future. I for one can certainly understand the effort and time it takes to manage a site like this. We started discussing a possible meger about a year ago and both agreed it would be a great fit to bring them together. This doesn’t mean that we will have one website. Rockclimbing.com and Dropzone will continue to function as two sites, but they will start to share more and more technology and resources that will create more efficiencies and hopefully a much better community. Daniel du Toit (ddt) has come on board to help me manage Rockclimbing.com. That will be his primary responsibility and while I'll help out over there, Dropzone.com will remain my "baby". We're excited about the opportunity to build on what the team at Rockclimbing.com has created over many years. They should be proud. Read the press release, we'd love to hear your questions, comments and feedback. A big welcome to everyone from Rockclimbing.com who may drop in at Dropzone.com. Onwards! Safe swoops Sangiro

  7. Cliff, You need to tread carefully. I'm happy for you that you seem to be taking your ban in Speakers Corner in stride, but you are wearing your chances thin. The moderators are showing a lot of patience with some of your gibberish. Next time I will remove your posting privileges to my forums all-together. Safe swoops Sangiro

Remember: DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance. Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer". Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check. 20. Having lived through the "dot com boom and crash" that sounds like something I've heard before. BBS bulletin boards was "the future" at some point. So was flaming and spinning logos! I like RSS. When the time is right I'll adopt it. I'm pretty particular about the strategy I use to adopt new technologies on Dropzone.com. On community sites it makes sense to wait till the tipping point has been reached before you spend a lot of time and energy building something that only 2% of your members are using. Just because it's cool, and just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done. That's part of the reason why you don't see this site all cluttered with scrolling text banners, javascript pop-ups, etc. I do like RSS though. Let's see how things play out. Should I also write a widget for Konfabulator? Safe swoops Sangiro
