No, not really. Getting people to come to a site is rather easy. What makes a successful web site is getting people to actually come back... Just getting them to go there once makes for a nice spike in your hits before you fade into oblivion. Dropzone.commers going there to post to the forums or check out what it's all about will not carry the site nor will it make him a fortune. Safe swoops Sangiro

Lisa - if you want to try a few backgrounds, download this zip file.... When I started on the web I collected sky-backgrounds for my web sites... I think there's something like 40 different ones in here.

It seems to be back up now...check it out!

Yup - the site has "mysteriously disappeared" a few times in the past hour... let's see if it comes back up.

Heya guys, Just stumbled across a site of a guy who has stolen about everything he can from Dropzone.com and created his own site. Logo, design, information architecture, colors, concept... He also (without permission) positions the site as "the exiting new South African version of www.dropzone.com" I think this is misleading as it could create the impression that the site is somehow affiliated with Dropzone.com, which it is not. http://dive.to/dropzone On his web site I found the following: "if you want to help, contribute or give criticism get hold of me at this address" dropzone@mail.co.za If any of you feel like raising an objection (please do not flame or spam!) I won't stop you! There's also a Forum on his site where you guys can air your views. I'll especially appreciate any support I can get from South African skydivers on this. I don't mind people being inspired by Dropzone.com to set up their own sites, I'll even help where I can, but this is simply theft of something that I've worked on for a long time. Even the topic of the current poll has been stolen! Safe swoops Sangiro

Let me add a quick posthumous comment here. This is not directed at anyone specifically, it just seems like the appropriate thread to bring it up. The topical forums is for constructive discussions relating to the topics at hand. There's a certain amount of BS that I'll tolerate in the Talk Back forum - not here though. People come to these forums to learn and to teach, not to wade through this kind of gibberish. Please respect that or I'll simply remove your writing privileges from all the topical boards. That way you can hang out in Talk Back, read what others have to say in the topical boards but not spoil it for the rest of us over here. I'm not happy with threads being locked on here as some really good conversations get shut down by doing that. For that reason I'll take action that will target you individually and leave the threads open for others to post to. Keep it real!

There's a large section of the climbing community who holds the position that he was lying in his tent sleeping while others were dying on Everest in 96. He maintains he was drained and could barely move. Anatoli actually went out twice that same evening to try and help/find others. Even though Krakauer was the one sleeping through these events he was very critical of Boukreev's conduct as a guide on the expedition. Safe swoops Sangiro

Interesting how Jon Krakauer managed to split opinions in the climbing community around Into thin Air. I also read The Climb and Anatoli Boukreev was a great climber but not much of a writer. He tries to hard to justify his actions in 1996 in this book. The West Ridge is also worth a read if you have more capacity for Everest books.

Bill, You start with Darwinism - natural selection - in the first paragraph. Then you move into describing a society, applying rules that when repeated, results in the most beneficial outcome to the group in your next three paragraphs. Very good paragraphs. You end again with natural selection in the last paragraph. What you described in the middle three paragraphs (in my opinion) is self organization in complex dynamical or adaptive systems. Complexity Theory (cool stuff!
