But I don't think you understand them. That's not a personal attack... you really should give this up. Safe swoops Sangiro

This should be fixed now.... give it a go... Safe swoops Sangiro

You can only make changes within 6 hrs after you posted. In some cases there seem to be hick-ups with edits. I have loads of things to do on the site (and pretty limited time) Levin and deal with them in order of priority and impact. This is not a high priority. BTW - if you do a search in this forum you'll see that bthis has been addressed many times before. Safe swoops Sangiro

And my reply would be if you are paying for the bandwidth you can do whatever you want.... Chris, put this to rest, please.... it's smart to know when to stop.... Safe swoops Sangiro

I believe I responded to a very dramatic public post that you made - "for all to read". No one has seen or even knew about the PM you sent me until you just mentioned it.... I'm done with this thread now. Safe swoops Sangiro

Chris, I guess I could get into a pissing contest here with you but I know that's just going to make you feel even more unhappy. You're picking a fight that's really hard to win. You're not the first and won't be the last to disagree with how I run this site and I'm OK with that. There's no way I can hit the spot for 9000+ people. I'm a pathetic politician! It's not that your posts were offensive (by all means tell us about your farm animal fantasies), it's that your posts often has no substance nor purpose other than to hear your own voice and drive up your post numbers. So all I will do is say again; nobody wants to see you leave, but don't make yourself miserable, move on if you feel that's what you need to do. Safe swoops Sangiro

Yeah, I went through several drafts before I gathered the courage to add that line... Safe swoops Sangiro

With all due respect.... I locked a thread of yours because it had no other purpose whatsoever than being a "Lame attempt at post whoring......." That was actually the subject of your thread. I think you're being a bit of a drama-queen. Hang around a DZ more often, it'll thicken your skin. The "powers that be" didn't decide you're a post whore. You pride yourself in being one. You start threads like the one above using that term, you brag all over the place about how much fun it is. Do a search and check your threads. By all means go ahead and post whatever you want, but don't be surprised and act like a victim when you get your hand slapped. We're all adults here and we understand that actions have consequences. I'll say it again if you didn't hear me before.... Post whore from time to time if you want, but don't aim to make it your legacy on these forums. I won't look kindly on that, and quite frankly neither does the majority of this community. Nobody wants to see you go... Safe swoops Sangiro

Greg Gasson is the jumper. Joe Jennings is the guy who took the video. Do a search for their names on this site. These two gentlemen have done more skydiving stunts and jumps than most of us here have watched online movie clips.... Safe swoops Sangiro

Heya all, Quick update. I'm still looking at this and have started to make a few inquiries. I was hoping that the USPA would be willing to share some of the information, even at the level that it's published in Parachutist but here's what I got from Jim Crouch: I think "unfortunately" is the operative word here. It is unfortunate especially in the light of the fact that the NTSB for example doesn't seem to have a problem sharing information on aircraft accidents online for others to learn from. The only alternative really is to build it in the way Barry has done, by taking reports from the public. Safe swoops Sangiro

I locked that thread. Safe swoops Sangiro

Have your friend send the full Elsinore article with photos to me and I'll publish it all....

It's been listed in the Document Archive for a while... Safe swoops Sangiro

My condolences.... Safe swoops Sangiro

Amen! See my post from last year...April I think... for the full poem. Safe swoops Sangiro

Don't be mad at him, he's got a small penis. Safe swoops Sangiro

That's hilarious. Thanks for posting that guys!

Wow.... we should try harder to be like rec.skydiving so we can be "heavy".... yeah right! Seriously though, I think it's a good idea but I think there's at least a dozen forums that I'll put up before I create a politics forum. Politics is for the USPA and the likes - they are welcome to create that service for skydivers on their site - isn't that what we pay them for? Safe swoops Sangiro
-
Dropzone.com gets more posts in a week than rec.skydiving gets in a month.... who do you think is lite? Safe swoops Sangiro

Low priority.... here's a work-around... Click on User List in the Forum navigation bar, click on the Total Posts heading: sorted from the lowest to the highest number of posts. Click on the Total Posts heading again: sorted the other way round.... there you go... all 9200 plus people sorted in the right order.

Well, I just had the honor of spending an evening with Bill Booth and his two lovely daughters. Rainy evening in London so dug into some strong steaks and chocolate brownies. What an extraordinary mind. It's humbling to meet a gentleman who've contributed so much to making this sport safer for all of us. As Lisa said, he's probably forgotten more about gear than most of us will learn in our lifetime. I wish I had a few more days to sit back, listen and learn. If you ever have the chance to meet him, jump at it. He's top class. Thanks Bill. Safe swoops Sangiro

Hey Shane - what are you up to buddy? Drop me an email or a PM and let me know where you're at nowadays. Safe swoops Sangiro

No speed improvement for you then.... hmmm.... The foreign language invasion... must be those Canadians! I'll check it out. The home page will stop being gray when our friends stop dying. I'm screaming with my mouth shut. Safe swoops Sangiro

Ok boys and girls, I have released the hounds from Canada onto the sever and they have done some beautiful things.... I understand very little of it but will read it up over the next few days... Mod_perl is now handling all the Forum and Adcycle (the script the shows the banners at the top of each page) requests. These are the two resource hogs. The numbers look good (I may not have to put out for extra CPU after all) but I need you guys to tell me if there's a difference. Best test is the old user test!

Heya all, Just a quick note to let you know I'm aware of the performance issues on the server. I'll make it a priority to sort it out. As you know I upgraded the memory to 512 MB a short while ago and while we're still coming close to using all of it I think that's still OK for now... The current culprit is CPU. The the server runs on a 650 MHZ box and as of this moment the users (that's us freaks!) are using 71.5% of the CPU, the system's using the remaining 28.4% and there is 0.0% idle... In short, we're sucking it dry and there's nothing to spare! Hehehehe! I've contacted my host to pump this up to 1 GHZ. Also, I'll have to add some bandwidth. I've purchased 40 GB per month and we are averaging at 75 GB ever month. I think this started to happen when Chromeboy joined... The plumbing is too light-weight, I'll get a thicker pipe. I have also started conversations with some friendly Canadians to do some performance tuning on the server and move some of the scripts over to persistent environments. You can run scripts like the forum under mod_perl to speed things up and use mod_gzip to save on bandwidth, but I know next to nothing about how to set up dual Apache servers to do this etc. I know, that's boring as hell..... So, these guys will help me. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your patience - keep the faith!
