That is quite funny as I thought exactly the opposite when I was last in the states! Ryanair are difficult about this - just means we will go with other carriers although it is frustrating. i flew with them in february and carried my rig on no probs. CJP Gods don't kill people. I can't believe you honestly think that murdering your 15 year old next door neighbour because they piss you is actually justifiable - it beggars belief. Teenagers will often cause trouble - does that make it OK to kill them? Where do you draw the line? If my one weekend is anything to go by then the Easter boogie will be a fairly busy affair. On the Saturday and Sunday they were flying three planes at any one point although two of these were Porter's so not huge numbers of jumpers. There is only one run in at Empuria which makes for some interesting landing patterns as you can often be intersecting other peoples landing patterns if they are downwind and you are upwind of the LZ but you should be able to deal with it. The faster planes however can put you pretty far from the DZ if the run in is downwind but there are lots of good out spots to land. The biggest issue at Empuria is the wind. The wind comes off the mountains and it can get pretty blowy. They do occasionally put jump number restrictions up which in the four days we were there ranged from no AFF or Consolidation to 400 jump minimum. When my bro went a few years ago he was there for 4 days at easter and didn't jump due to a 500 jump min the whole time. All that said it is an awesome DZ. Very friendly and well run and catering for all types of jumpers with RW load organisers and Freefly coaching for all skill levels. Go along and enjoy yourself. CJP Gods don't kill people. Do you pay if you come down with the plane?
CornishChris replied to testpilot's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was very impressed at Weston on the Green in Oxfordshire when i had paid for a full height jump but the cloud came in and half of us bailed out at just under 2,500. When we landed I was called to manifest where they basically refunded the ticket for a low jump (£6 compared to £18). I thought that was great customer service. Those who did not jump got a refund. You don't to push people outside their personal comfort zones and risk an accident for the price of a jump ticket. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people -

Have you ever hitchhiked or picked up a hitchhiker?
CornishChris replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
I hitched up the East coast of Australia when I was 19. Was pretty good fun and met some cool people although did get picked up by one strange couple. I was in the back and they were in the front of this old ford charger type thing with a spider inside the globe of the gear stick. They were both off their faces (I realised after getting in) and proceeded to go to a drive through bottle shop to pick up more beer. they were drinking and smoking weed in the front and kept telling me i should come and stay with them. They kept kissing as they were driving to which was pretty unpleasant. the woman asked if anyone knew were i was and I made up that i was meeting some friend in a nearby town. i have to admit i was pretty freaked out when i eventually persuaded them to let me get out after travelling about 50 miles the opposite way from were I was going. Picked up spme hitchers too including one guy i picked up leaving a little village in Cornwall who turned out to be going to the same town as me in the north of England - so I took him all the way and had a good laugh with him. Haven't hitched or picked anyone up for a few years now though. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people -
This is wrong. Well the second part anyway. If you assume timings of 10 secs for the first 1k then 5 secs per k thereafter; whatever height you pick you will have roughly 5 secs longer if you exit from that height than if you pass that height at terminal. So c. 20 secs from 3k. To answer the first posters question you have to weigh up amount of time given by an exit altitude against other factors like canopy time, climb time etc. Doing static lines from 10k wouldn't make a huge amount of sense as whilst it would give you some more seconds to deal with a problem you would probably lose half your students in their 20 minute descent under canopy and you open them up to other risks. Incidentally it used to be lower for statics (2k) and many military static line jumps are sub 1000 feet. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people

Iran Threatens U.S. With 'Harm and Pain'
CornishChris replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Not strictly true. They claim they wish to pursue a civilian nuclear program in order to develop nuclear power. The big concern over all of this is that actually they wish to purse a military route even though they say they do not. So kind of back to the he-said she-said but with more at risk. When a guest brings expensive wine to a dinner party . . .
CornishChris replied to Keith's topic in The Bonfire
If you take a bunch of flowers for the host do you expect to sit next to them and sniff them all night? If you take an expensive bottle of wine be happy that the host will enjoy it sometime if they don't open it that evening. I agree with all those who say it is a gift and they shouldn't be 'expected' to open it - just plain selfish to give someone a gift you want and expect them to share it with you - after all who has gone to the trouble of arranging the aforementioned dinner party...? UK Women loses battle to keep Embryo's

A better analagy would be - she's pregnant; he wants to keep it, she doesn't. He has no say. This is a tragic case with no winners in it but unfortunately I think the court had to find the way they did. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people -
UK Women loses battle to keep Embryo's
CornishChris replied to CornishChris's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes we do have these laws and that is one reason the decision went the way it did. Even if the mother says she doesn't want money the right to it belongs to the child not her. It is a shame and if anyone finds themselves in the same position they should leave unfertilised eggs or sperm to avoid this happening. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people -
UK Women loses battle to keep Embryo's
CornishChris replied to CornishChris's topic in Speakers Corner
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/03/07/uembryo.xml&sSheet=/portal/2006/03/07/ixportaltop.html Interesting story. Basically 5 years ago she used in-vitro fertilisation to make 6 embryos with her then fiance as she was having cancer treatment that would render her infertile. Now they have split up and she wants access to the embryos but the bloke says no. Under UK law consent is required at all stages of fertility treatment which is a little contrary to the consent required to make a baby the usual way (a shag). There was an interesting debate on the issue on Radio 4 earlier (showing my age!) but I thought I would open this up to the collective intellect of the SC. I am not sure where I stand as both arguments are solid. Fight amongst yourselves... CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people -

Another high-profile shooting in gun-violence-free England
CornishChris replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm not sure why I bother as you are as like to change your opinion as I am to eat my own head but here are some numbers for you Jeffrey: Population US - c. 300 million Population UK - c. 60 million Therefore US has 5 times the population of UK. Firearms offences in US in 2003 (source http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/tables/guncrimetab.htm) - 347,705 of which 11,041 were homicides Firearms offences in UK for 2003 (source http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs04/hosb1004.pdf) - 10,340 of which 68 were homicides Taking into account population sizes this equates to being 3,247% more likely to be killed with a gun in the US than in the UK - I'm not going to source my maths, just work it out yourself. Please explain how an instigation of your so obviously effective US gun policy in the UK will have anything other than a negative effect on the rate of gun crime and specifically gun related murders in this country.
