Hehehe I do it on the ground, then put on an RW or FF suit! FrogNog got it right, well except for the"he" part

I've had days where I'm flying wingsuit all day then disconnect for some freefall jumps at the end of the day. On those days I almost always end up pulling as if I were still flying a wingsuit, just as you ask. The reason I can get away with doing this without hurting myself (as others have suggested) is I'm tall and skinny and tend to track at about 80 to 90 mph without a wingsuit, and I have a soft opening forgiving canopy (Sabre2 loaded at 1.2-ish) that I pack to open extra slow when not wingsuiting. It's all in the arch at pull time- if you can slow yourself down then keep yourself head high and pull fairly quickly the openings are no different than pulling with the left hand in front of you.

I've had a few fractures and several bruisings (rollerblading), and it's never been back to 100% since the first bump. Usually took me a minimum 6 weeks to try to participate in sports normally. To this day it still aches if I sit on something hard or in bad weather, and the last bruising was at least 4 years ago.

3 times- 1st bad packing to make a short call resulted in spinning and diving, 2nd couldn't kick out of line twists (later found out main lift web had stiching coming out and was longer on one side), 3rd p/c in tow in wingsuit.

Most of the time I'm jumping my wingsuit; I have to tighten the leg straps before zipping into it, then tighten chest strap on top. Every once in a while I disconnect my wingsuit, then I do my chest strap first.

container 1997 main 2003 reserve 1992

In that rig (vector 2-2 from 1992) the cypres sat in the bottom of the reserve container, but the cutter was under the flaps over the pilot chute, if i remember correctly (like the new mirage set up). That rig was condemned about a year ago for a main lift web stitching failure and I haven't really looked at it since.

What colors did you choose for your canopy & why?
moonglo replied to mattyblast's topic in Gear and Rigging
I picked blues and purples to go with the gear I owned back then, but after 3 cutaways I wish I'd picked something brighter- it always lands navy side up and is hard to find! -
Skydive Houston does- bring 12 tandems with you and your tandem is free! You'd have to call them and see if instead you could apply that cost to a discount on an AFF jump. They also have group discounts and if you're licensed you get a free jump for every student you bring! When in doubt, it won't hurt to call around to your local dzs and ask, but be sure to figure in that at least that many people have to show up- I've seen so many upset tandems when their group reservation was for 12 but only 6 or 8 showed up and they had to pay for their jump, as well as a cancelation fee for the no-shows.

The cypres cable was not secured in a channel (Vector 2 not set up for AAD originally) and entangled with the pilot chute. I heard the "pop" of the pin clearing the loop and the p/c pushing the flaps part way open, but NOTHING came out! Yeah, I don't use that rigger anymore

I had a reserve pack job that failed to open when the handle was pulled on the ground, so I do worry. But that's not going to stop me from cutting away and using it if I need to (and have 3 times since).

Bent elbow, but not quite like your pic. I roll my shoulders more forward, so the elbow is pointing more towards my head than my back. Makes for a very light grip on the wingtips as I'm flying mostly with the upper part of my arms. -Jenn

I own both Prodigy and GTi and have found the same-I can fly further at a slower decent rate in the Prodigy. But on long flights I find the GTi to be much easier on the shoulders! (and it probably helps that my Prodigies are almost new, while my GTi has 150+jumps, lost most of it's lining, and has a few patches)

I love my Sabre 2 (about 200 wingsuit jumps on it now) but as someone else said you have to be careful with body position as it does tend to have a mind of it's own while opening. It is a fun canopy to fly and does tend to stay overhead and untwist on it's own when things don't go perfectly.
-
And yet I've had at least 4 first flight students I can think of who either spun out of control or dove at the ground in prodigies with at least 300 to 500 jumps each. I think the time for a first flight is a lot more about being comfortable with being in the suit and aware in the air than just having the jump #'s. -Jenn PFI #21

I always love doing bigways and vertical bigways, but sequentials would be fun too. The free jumps I won last year expire after 1 year (in March)! Anyone wanna buy 5 jumps? Or do you think they'll honor them? -Jenn

That would be me! But along the way to 200 jumps and finding a suit that would fit me I fell in love with the rest of the sport as well. Of my last 300 jumps (since I got my hands on a decent fitting classic) only 200 were wingsuits....

The velcro closure on my Oxygn helmet isn't so sticky anymore, and probably should have been replaced about 50 jumps ago. (For those of you unfamiliar with this type of full face helmet, there is a velcro strap you pull tight on the right side just above your ear to secure the helmet)..... I had a rather violent opening last jump Saturday due to poor body position in a wingsuit (I was watching my 1st flight student deploy). Controllability check was normal after kicking out of linetwists. When I opened the visor I thought my helmet felt a bit loose but ignored it (STUPID). Started my flare normally and about 6-8 feet of the ground my right steering line caught in the now exposed velcro hooks on my helmet, causing me to hook in left as I was flaring. Realizing something wasn't right I had about 1/2 second to stop flaring and tuck in my arms. I was really lucky. This could have been much worse if I was a split second slower getting my extremities out of harms way or stopping my flare. The end result was a bruised knee, sore shoulder, and lots of scrapes on my exposed legs since I was only wearing shorts under my wingsuit. Please learn from my mistake! Maintain the velcro on all of your gear including jumpsuits, helmets, and altimeters! I won't be jumping my full face again until I can replace the worn out velcro strap.

I know 2 guys who used to do coke and jump (different dzs), they both bounced

I'll be out early Sat. and would love to try the phantom and acro (if they fit) and I'll join you on the high speed exit demo if you like- got an extra smoke bracket I can borrow? doesn't have to be a wingsuit friendly one, my gti's already fried on the left leg. I'll be bringing my 3 prodigies and Larry's classic too. Those gs-1's are rough on the upper body, y'all better be working out before you demo them! Wimpy me got 33mph top end and 51 mph bottom end when i gave up to save my arms/shoulders for the pull and landing.

Hijack Does anyone know the dates for the spring 2006 Flock-n-Dock yet? I have to give tons of notice to take time off work at this new job....

Prodigies do have a 200 jump requirement as well, but I don't know if that may be different where you are. I believe the USPA SIM recomends 200 jumps in 18 months to try any beginner wingsuit with an instructor, or 500 jumps minimum. I know there are wingsuit instructors in Texas, as well as on the east and west coasts if you're looking to come to the USA. Added bonus in the southern regions we jump year round! Check out where the other Phoenix Fly Instructors are located on the PF website. -Jenn PFI#21
