im split on this. a female only swoop competition may be just the thing to get some of the more timid ladies into the realm of competition while at the same time it segregates.

worth highlighting...

the absolute best dollar for information that you could spend. i believe he charges like $25- a day (underpriced by hundreds) and sits and videos and debriefs every landing you do. he will eat there and i don't think he leaves to pee. jason was an amazing influence on me and showed me some incredible tricks that i deploy on every swoop i do to this day.

Shameless plug for Joe B. & MEL.
chachi replied to diablopilot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
While I realize that i took a little longer to get it off to you than I had hoped it was frustrating to send it to you and then know you were online and not responding to my enquiries. We had discussed on the phone that I really don't want another removable slider as I think they pack terribly and was hoping to work the exchange for a line kit for an FX 92. Please adivse. i appreciate your dealing with matters. Time delays happen in business, keeping the customer informed saves tons of grief. that was my terrible message. we did chat on the phone and you said you would have no problem with the line kit. it is the only reason that i sent it out as i said i did not care for the openings. everything was reasonable and i almost ordered an HMA line set from you for my VX94 but never heard back from you. -

the final plot in the story was that i got this slider through simon at icarus whom i made the deal to purchase the canopy with a removeable slider. the purchase was supposed to be made from simon which makes no difference to me. i paid for the product, he arranged the shipping. if he didn't pay you that isn't my fault. you said send you the slider and we could work out an exchange. i didn't even care in the beginning just had posted in a thread about my slider that caused a malfunction. you insisted in making it right in the beginning. -

joe- probably no need to see a pic of the slider as it is in Mel's hands. i returned it to him. the one i had did not have close to 5" of cable, more like 3 (?) - not having it here i am guessing. the binding tape looked to me like maybe 1.5" folded over and then sewn. it was your guys' model. mel confirmed to me where it got shipped to. like i said, no matter what jump 1,2, or sometimes 3 cables were out during the opening sequence. my pack jobs hold the slider firmly in place so i know there was no excess mucking around causing it to come out. regardless of the slider problem's, which i didn't really care that much about (cutaway's are sort of fun) the after service has been a non-existant. -

well i thought that he had meant to deal with everything when getting back to me in the first place. i even asked skymonkeyone to delete the thread we had discussions in. however, after multiple contacts, including phone calls and PM's on dz.com. where you can lookat peoples online status and see that they have been online virtually every day then you get a little dis-heartened. -
Jumps : 230 License: B 5445 In sport: 2 years Guys with exactly this much knowledge should not be inventing gear. RDS is useless to have on your canopy unless swooping competitively for the exact reason of complicating something that does not need to be complicated. I hope you stay safe. Please stop while you are ahead and focus this much effort into your skydives. It will get you further ahead than an RDS for a 150+ sq. foot canopy.

at least 2 of the cables would pop out on every single jump and finally one hung up on a cascade and i had a slider hang up. it almost happened again about 10 jumps later and i finally stopped jumping it. seeing as i was not big on having the same slider due to the shitty opening we had even discussed him getting me a line set (worth about the same) in replacement and then after our last PM in May when he informed me that he had been travelling and would get me taken care of the following week i have heard absolutely nothing. so it was also a total waste of my money to ship him back the slider in the first place. -

i think they should pay attention to past customers and not just work on recruiting new ones. i had a removeable slider manufactured by Skyworks that caused a malfuntion and almost caused a second. after posting in a thread about these guys that it had happened Mel contacted me and seemed like he really wanted to work things out. after sending my slider back to them and trying for the last 4 months to get it dealt with i am left with the absolute worst taste in my mouth. most recently i sent follow up messages aug. 4th, aug 21st. the last email i sent was a simple "are we ever going to have an end to our business" to which i never got a response. it's not like i can't view that he is online every single day. i also left a voicemail in between these two times. cheers guys. your customer service is just like my original slider, the shits. -
i would suggest this is not the website to be searching for the best information on swooping. go to canopypiloting.com and read everything. jim has articles on everything from beginning to end on his website. aside from that i agree that you should be getting all of the general basics form someone in person tht you trust. do you have any really competant crossbrace canopy pilots at your home dz? i bet they would be happy to get you going if you just asked them. buy the beer!

i love how some people do this to look good and others do it to feel good. you sound to me like some guy that got diddled as a kid and now needs the constant attention.
-
i tried to find the link for canopypiloting.com but for some reason the forums are down. read the information that Jim has posted along with the pictures of him flying it. he has said it is old technology and will not even compete with current x-brace technology much less out flying them. sounds to me like a crossfire that you can load heavier with better characteristics.

Does your DZ charge you any fees for doing video
chachi replied to doublespock's topic in Photography and Video
i think out of the $90 charged we only pay our slot and $5 as the dz i work at supplies the editing equipment. if you do not supply your own media the dz will at $5 also. -
By what reference do you initiate your approach?
chachi replied to LearningTOfly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
i use my neptune to setup my pattern. i try to be at my initiation point on time and use my neptune to assit me in knowing whether i am at initiation point, high / low. from then on it's all eyes through the gate. aggie dave's explanation made sense. i use my eyes throughout to visually verify what my neptune is telling me. i think if you are turning at 500' on an fx89 you are probably coming out low most often. maybe not low i'll slam into the ground but low i should have let the canopy recover itself low. then again you could be super lightly loading. i fly a vx94 at 2.1 without weights and start my turn optimally between 675' and 725'. -

i was told to do this after buying my vx
-
^sounds like you guys may want to provide some feeback to your organizers. stoobert for President!
-
i think you misunderstood. i could put the canopy in my rig and fee comfortable. i would probably do a day of hop n pops with a new canopy though and i picked a number out of thin air. if i changed platform though i would probably do 3-5 high pulls and really get the feel of it for my benefit, not that i think i would fly into the ground with it.
-
i would do 5 high pulls on any new canopy if i could. especially if this is a very different platform that what you are used to ie. major downsize or first xbrace. if i was only downsizing slightly i would do 20 hopnpops.

if your thinking of that GLS in classifieds right now that's a smoking deal. also, i know the guy posting it, solid guy to buy from.
