Bigway camps/events this summer before September?
padraigbrowne replied to mdrejhon's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Think you could make it over for 50 ways at the Irish Boogie The club will be open for 11 days, and with up to 4 turbine aircraft (including Skyvan and Grand Caravan) hauling jumpers to altitude there will be plenty of lift capacity for everyone from 1st timers and students to experienced skydivers of every discipline. Big Way Skills Camp (26-30 Jul) with Kate Cooper-Jenson, Derek Thomas and our own Gordon Hodgkinson. Irish National Record attempts (28-30 Jul) led by Gordon. Apply at fsorganising@skydive.ie to be a member of the team, or come cheer us on in our goal to build the largest Irish freefall formation ever seen . After the big-way camp there will be walk-up organised FS loads throughout the boogie with Derek Thomas, Sally Hathaway and Gordon Hodgkinson. For the wanna-be CRW dogs Pat Hammond will return (1-4 Aug) to run his popular CF roadshow. There will be CF specific-gear and coaches to safely introduce you to the world of canopy formations. Towards the end of the weekend we plan to go bigger than the 7-stack club record set last year - those doing their first CRW jump on Fri could realistically be on the record! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=1 ... 909&ref=nf http://www.skydive.ie/boogie2008 -

A full account from one of the guys collecting the Kodiak can be read here "Today we took N495KQ to Seattle for a meeting with the FAA which went very well. They have approved the findings and results of the test jumps we did the other day and will issue the certificate of conformity tomorrow. Get this: The Kodiak is the very first USA aircraft ever to be certificated for jumping right off the production line. This is great news and a real feather in the cap of Quest. We're now planning to leave here on Wednesday morning. ETA Lippspringe Saturday or Sunday" http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=8742&sid=bc4bfbe280ae80b910bf5691dec5c840&start=48 and here http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=11945&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=32

There is only one optimum 143 here in ireland at the moment and i think he is a few months from his next repack *** You're welcome to open it now and see if it will fit in yours , if ya wanna pay for the re-pack PD say they pack one size smaller , however most riggers in the field are reporting easily 2 sizes smaller "RM1" said he put an optimum + cypress1 in a rs1k and it was a pretty good fit http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=2822271;page=2;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;

Not much public transport in that area . You could get a bus from Dublin to Edenderry ( about 5miles from DZ ) Or you could look for a lift by posting on http://www.skydive.ie/forums/ Weather last Saturday was great with lots of jumping all day ,Sunday was a wash out ! Forecast for next weekend is not good but you could be lucky

QuoteI think if what you want is super small, and you can perfect the system (good luck), a spinning round would work best. Spinning rounds have much greater drag per area of parachute and are much more stable. Unfortunately, Department of Defense (i.e. very well funded) researchers have been unable to make a spinning round larger than about 8 feet that will deploy reliably (but maybe that's large enough for this application). reply] ----------------------------------------------------------- Auto-rotating parachute system http://www.atairaerospace.com/parachutes/heli-chute/
