Why being an instructor/videographer is GREAT!!!

Billvon did a good post/story. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=784378;page=2;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; -
15 years smoking here. quit now for over 3 years Hardest times: 3rd day, 3rd month, 3rd year At first you won't shun smokers, after all, you were 'one of them' After a year of non-smoking your attitude of smokers will be worse that those that never smoked. The smell is absolutely terrible, almost sickening. Had this hot chick sit next to me in one of my classes. She came in first day and sat down next to me. She just got done smoking. I just politely wrinkled my nose and bumped down a couple seats, there is no way i could survive a class sitting next to the smell!!!

Hey Ryan, Do you know what type of canopy and approximately how many jumps were on it?

I've heard of more problems with JVC's in their saudering connections inside the camera. It's not as much of an issue now with D-Box's but just shows the all around 'cheapness' of a JVC. JVC's also tend to have smaller lens's and it can be difficult to find a wide angle. Other brands also have on/off switches that are sometimes not condusive to skydiving (i.e. pulling out the viewfinder to turn it on, opening the viewfinder to start recording) Honestly, how much more are you paying? I just picked up a PC101 for $560, thats sniffing. New TRV18's retail are under $500! Most head gear is built to accomidate the Sony line.

Why being an instructor/videographer is GREAT!!!
jeremyneas replied to jeremyneas's topic in The Bonfire
I’ve seen like 5 threads now on why people burn out, quit the sport or hate getting their instructional ratings. Well, I’m here to tell you that getting your Instructional rating or working at a DZ is an awesome experience and some tips on how not to burn out. Why it’s great! 1. The moment you get to a new DZ, you’re in the system. You don’t have to feel out the vibe; don’t have to worry about clicks or bad attitudes from fun jumpers. 2. At boogies, you can definitely share the cost by doing some working jumps. And if you run out of money, you don’t have to run out of jumping. 3. Your jump numbers increase exponentially. 4. Your teaching and technique become second nature. If you compared my first 50 tandems from my last 50 (500 so far), the talk got smaller, the students got better, because my teaching and flying improved. 5. You strive to learn more about every aspect of the sport. You tend not to single out a discipline but embrace them all so there is knowledge in teaching as much and best as possible. 6. Shooting video can become monotonous (if your not careful) with tandems, but that usually forces a person to start new and creative flying techniques that improves skill and videos. 7. You become a connoisseur of jumpsuits, usually having at least one of each in your gear bag, and sometimes multiple types of one jumpsuit. 8. Skydiving never hits your home bank account, and that’s MAJOR points with the Mrs. Don’t burn out! 1. Change it up, don’t do 50 tandems in a row. Swap around and fun jump. I know tandem masters that bring their personal rig to the DZ every day and as soon as manifest says there are no more tandems they pack up and leave. 2. The more sick of the sport your getting, the more fun jumps you need to insert in your daily dose. Find a balance. 3. Don’t be so bullheaded. If the DZO wants it done a certain way, and your not violating any safety regulations, then just do it. It’s usually not worth the argument. Usually the more corporative the Instructor is, the more leeway the DZO will give him with other things. 4. The best way to deal with a DZO that is nutzy is to get him (or her) out of the limelight). A serious adult discussion in the back of the hanger is generally more productive than something in the middle of the packing hanger. Remember, we’re all just a bunch of premadonnas!!! 5. Start something you’ve never done before, and be taught by someone with far less experience (than you, but enough to teach properly). It’s humbling and super fun, and earns the respect of a whole new generation of jumpers. 6. If you’re opposed to a policy or procedure, talk to other instructors discretely about it. See if they agree with you, then talk to the DZO (meeting), you may be wrong. 7. If you really feel uncomfortable doing something, just don’t do it. Doesn’t mean you have to quit. If you stay calm and rational most likely things get resolved in that manner. 8. If you are flipping out on manifest or packers all too often, time for a break. Again communication is usually the key here. It’s too easy to get nuts for another slammer of the day, or jumping your 10th, 210lb frat boy… 9. Give something back for free at the DZ. Personally, I give free coach jumps (I pay slot and all) and it not only makes the student fly better (because it seems that they are just fun jumping with a buddy, no stress), but it makes the day flow smoother. I think the key is to maintain a healthy balance. Don’t just hang out on one side of the hanger. I’m talking about Instructing/Video v. all around fun jumping. If anyone else knows any tips or tricks…by all means post um, or we may have an epidemic on our hands!!! Know everybody. Learn everything. -
Has anyone had this done? (It is listed in the Classified section of Parachutist for $100) I'm curious of the performance difference of candid people that have had this done. Also, if the strength increases on the fabric, isn't the old stitching still susceptable to ripping and tearing? What actually goes first in an old 0P?

Sounds like your doing everything right, the only sign you should be reading into this is ... Find another Packer!

So, you land in the canyon? There must be lift back to the DZ proper. How's the landing area? Windsocks set up? Land in any direction if necessary? (bottom of canyon) Alternate landing areas? Just curious, the view looks nice

I had a flashing time out. It worked and was loud enough. Looks ridiculus on most helmets made for Protrack/Prodytter (i.e. A3). You can only set one altitude, the other two are preset. Sets off easliy under canopy. Very uncomfortable in a frap hat. The flasher is very hard to see, you have to concentrate on it to see it flashing (and i used it on a camera helmet where the flasher was mounted in front of my eyeball!), which begs the question... If you can get one cheap, it probably make a good backup if you have the room.

I get more leg control out of these then RW suits with booties. Great for the summer when all you need is a t-shirt and these pants. My delivery time was 5 days.

Very good lens, very flexible lens, but $300 is retail right now for that lens. Don't let whoever is selling it to you convince you it's a 'deal'. Are you using a wide angle on your PC?

What is the Best Quality camcorder and camara SLR?
jeremyneas replied to paracapanas's topic in Photography and Video
You may actually get fewer responses with: Whats the best type of girl to date? Whats the best position to tag her? LOL, jump what works for you. -
If you look at that video closely you'll see that just before he lands the canopy with the camera, theres a CReW dock and thats probably where/when the camera was attached

I'm a meatatarian, I don't believe in the senseless slaughter of innocent plants. To make the effort, and go to those particular stores and pay inflated prices for meat that supports small farms which would probably make you sick for a short while due to the missing 'drugs and such', doesn't seem in my best interest. What these propaganda...people don't want you to consider is....shhhhh...come closer...closer...closer... closer... closer... THE POPULATION IS RISING So what your saying is... More people...need more food. Farmers just barely getting by, need to save money. We found a solution...and their answer is to produce less food with smaller farms. I'm totally baffled by it. Someone enlighten me!!!!!

Head positioning on deployment
jeremyneas replied to AlvaroCarvalho's topic in Photography and Video
Agreed, turning your head 90 degrees could snap your neck of you had a 'shotgun' opening, if it's strait you can hyperextend but to stop that, after you deploy, place your hands under your chin and cup your chin. At the same time place your arms on your chest. (elbows down, arms look like V's) If the canopy opens hard your neck won't move. Keep it symmetrical. Also, you have more room between the risers with a sidemount than you think. -
The difference between fear and respect is knowledge. First jump courses, books, have her watch you (especially the tippy toe landings, they have that 1970's slam/Airborn image in the mind). Tandem is a ok idea, but it really depends on the attitude of the TM. You get some nut and it could strengthin her resolve. Expecially if they fuck up the landing. Hope this helps a little

I think most people that claim they are atheist, are realy agnostic. Atheist and Theist I group in the same catagory. Just different views. Remember, an atheist believes there is no god. But there is no evidence there is no god; just as a theist believes there is a god, but there is no evidence to prove it. Both are believers in some type of faith. Most proclaimed atheists don't understand this very fundumental fact of their belief. Agnostics on the otherhand have no opinion either way. They can't prove there is one, can't prove there isn't one. I celebrate Christmas for the same reasons the Government celebrates it. Tradition. The U.S. Gov't cannot worship a diety because of the seperation of church and state, so they use the term, a tradition that works, to justify, X-mas trees and the like. I think my boys deserve a time of the year that is majical as full of happiness, family, friends, and well being. If when old enough they want to take our tradition a step further and worship on that day, more power to them!

Most interesting out landing?
jeremyneas replied to Hazarrd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First jump on a Batwing 116 in 1997. Rigger checked the main hook up and gave me the ok. LUCKILY, WE OPEN WAY OFF THE AIRPORT! What I didn't notice with my low experience was my french link broke open and was holding my lines on by the threads, and the riser with the screw portion (i'll post a pic later if interested). Because I was off airport i didn't screw around just flew strait to a field and landed. Imagine spiraling down and fuckin around, and at 500' the link releasing!!! Yowsers! -
Sneak in to the office and pour ELAX into the coffee grounds (use chocolete), then go into the stalls in the bathroom and lock them from the inside and crawl underneith the doors. Do the same for the ladies! I did this in the miltary but fessed up, and had to clean up both bathrooms with a toothbrush. This ones for you MSGT Callahan!!! LOL

FREE SMOKE Last nights beer and fast food result in a 'present' in the plane before exit. Although your friends think you just stink really bad, they realize their folly when they notice the "smoke" comming from the bottom of your bootie in freefall!
