NE to challenge CO's legalization of marijuana in US Supreme Court
rehmwa replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Nebraska and Okie are a bit silly here. They could monitor the border strongly and confiscate the dope, arrest the offenders. Then sell the dope back to CO and fine offenders strongly and turn the situation into quite a revenue generation project. that way the independent states get what they want, without trying to tell the other independent state how to run their business. ... classy, it's a lot like throwing out 'frogs', or 'towelheads', it really sets the stage even more so, it's a true example of how to be sensitive, open minded, and tolerant. Certainly it'll open the minds of others that you are intelligent and well spoken and your ideas are worthy of serious consideration even if it comes from a different perspective than they are raised with. It's nice when people try to open doors instead of just trying desperately to feel superior (yes, I get the irony of actually typing this sentence) ... I don't know, it's pretty much poking a stick at catfisher who's already having a rough time getting people to understand what's he saying and the usual crowd just gangs up on him from that point on to spin it up worse and worse, it can be frustrating i just hate those kinds of statements - sincerely made or not - egged on or not happy yule ... I know it's a tangent, but these statements set me off - that's a battle philosophy of the weak and scared - or one of the vengeful - or both weakness - another's actions should not define your willingness to use your strength at the least possible level to take care of business Strength allows us the privilege to respond with the least measures to stop threat, not to overwhelm a slight with overbearing viciousness over-reaction is a childish tantrum of shivering cowards hiding behind rocks and others bigger than them and if that's not applicable then I'd note that vengeance is not justice. vengeance is selfish and petty and also the domain of the weak willed, and ultimately, the scared and timid happy holidays ... unless you can prove they are lying, I don't see how one can exclude them however, I would think their testimony is less than complete unless the other side also gets to put forth the 'rest of the story' it's why there is a prosecution and a defense - and both need to do their jobs (that said, I don't know how a grand jury proceeding might have different rules than what I'd expect from a jury trial proceeding) What I'm more interested in, is whether all this stuff in those two links....was it presented to the grand jury also? AND, were any of the counter arguments also vetted as thoroughly and completely presented? ... that's silly - if they choose not to enter into a viable market, then the prices are already higher as a result. so whatever they have to purchase is outflow from them to those states that do it's self balancing, there is no reason to artificially interfere via legislation. why do people always just jump to big brother socially/economically trying to engineer every single little thing? If given free rein to Congress, I'd not be surprised that one party will want to legislate more penalties on those that do not frack. The other party will want to subsidize the purchases for those that do to support their "social" green stance on the issue. and THEN, when they are done, they'll 'compromise' by subsidizing states that frack (encourage business growth), and states that don't (can't let babies and seniors freeze in the winter) and support it with a tax increase and some big borrowing....YAY GOVERNMENT! neither will just butt out and let it run its natural course - ... faith - belief in something unprovable - (neither good nor bad, depends on the person and how their belief affects their character and relationships) religion - ceremonies, actions, rituals design to help people exercise their 'faith' church - the 'business' that claims sole ownership of religion When the business goes bad and it turns into a power grab and money making industry, that's when thing really take a down turn. What Normiss is talking about isn't religion, it's 'church' gone bad. The other aspect of individuals being judgmental and jerkish? well, we see that in all groupings of people, check out any dropzone, or social club, or whatever - there will always be people that need self validation by putting down outsiders, or even others within their communities I'm not really a fan of all three things up there. For me. But for other people? It's not my business what they practice. I'm just not a fan of #3 when it goes bad. (and that goes for any power structure - religious, political, social movements, business). It just seems natural that any organized power structure eventually loses its way. ... I think you are reaching for something that's not there. thanks for trying to clarify. Actually I was hoping to get actual answers to the questions, since you appear to agree with Mr. Powell. oh...I don't really have a dog in the fight. I suspect having diplomatic relations with all these countries needs to done with an eye to their goals, laws, treatment of their citizens, etc etc. so being consistent is fine with me. But to me, it's a lot like your girlfriends shouting "Be safe" when you go load the airplane. It's kind of a 'no kidding' feel good thing but for public statements, it seems it needs to said. ... If a movie is made and no one can see it, does it make a sound? If someone stands on a box and rants about (whatever) and no one shows up to listen to him. Is his freedom to speak violated? nowhere in this did the US government violate a citizen's speech However, I can see your point in terms that the US government managed to not (immediately?) respond in a way that Sony and these other companies don't feel comfy that they were protected to 'speak' in terms of marketing and selling their product. I think it's a stretch, but I get your point. I'm more in line with Dekker on this one though. ... Complaining about thawing relations, when you have very friendly relations with.... still confusing me - I noted Colin Powell's position was reasonable and he said it was a good thing but to be wary and observant going forward and try to use the opportunity for positive change (or something to that effect). isn't that the opposite of complaining about it? Or am I misreading just who you include when you write things like "You guys"? really interesting you are just ready to just blithely disregard the opinions of these people I'm not invested one way or the other here, all I know was it was a bit off putting to see how 'giddy' the national news anchors were about it this morning. I'd really would have absorbed it a bit better if the delivery and attitudes were professional and objective. Gen Powell made some good statements in an interview about it though. He thought it was ok, but we need to be very watchful and that it doesn't excuse the treatment of the people or the bad policies of the Cuba gov in any way. that seems reasonable You guys gladly do business with Saudi Arabia, spare me the hypocrisy on Cuba. you'll have to explain the 'hypocrisy' statement - Doesn't this action puts Cuba on a more consistent footing with these other countries? Why do you hate Colin Powell? is it because he's black? edit: (nah, that tactic (last line up there) even is awkward, I don't know how people do it so easy) ... I'm upset at that video and any time I see evidence of this level of anger, violence, and disregard of others. But I'm not sure there's an action left against MB.
