  1. It's the individual's eggs/sperm/kidney/etc/etc/etc If they want to sell it - good for them If they want to donate it - good for them If they want to have it removed and use it for fish bait - good for them If we don't 'own' our own bodies, then we are really messed up ... 4. I can think of one flaw with that method Yeah, I suppose I should have mentioned this -- be careful not to Shoe Goo your bootie to your shoe. nonsense, it's not a flaw, it's a feature 1 - you always have a shoe to wear 2 - you always know where the shoe is 3 - the bottie is cut for that shoe, so the fit is always perfect 4 - the suit is clearly now weighted to fall rightside up when empty ... 8. Age. You'd want to nominate someone that is experienced enough to hold the position, but young enough to last for a few years. so what age range do think is appropriate, then? since we are now entering sexist, ageist, racist requirements into the job description..... I'd agree with experience being a criteria in that they need to have a track record long enough to demonstrate their ability to do the job without personal bias, but I'd have a hard time tying and age to it I guess somewhere between 25 and 102....... ... 11. I think you;'re right about Lieberman, but half right/half wrong about Specter. I think in his ideological heart-of-hearts Specter hasn't really been a true Republican in his life. (He switched parties early in his political career, basically as an office-running tactic, so this is actually the 2nd time he's done this in his career.). I think Specter's sole reason for making this switch is to get himself re-elected, even if the result is to place him (back) where his ideological heart truly is. nope, that's my position too Spector's doing this to be electable - 1st and only priority The point that this is more aligned to his politics is true, I agree. but I bet it has zero to do with his decision other than it makes it easier on him ... 13. And I believe that is your position. Frankly, the Dem's to many of us have done nothing but drift rightward since Carter. I'm not sure if neither of us is wrong or if we're both right. Which is why I believe that Specter is a solidly centrist Demoblican/Republicrat. and our positions are pretty clear that what's really happening is the (social) center is being systematically abandoned or just given lip service by the parties to help win the popularity contest (with no real substance) that is our national election process I actually live on the other axis, we have 4 parties now 1 - super dems - spend spend spend, here's my list of social programs 2 - dem light (AKA neo republicans) - me too, I can spend more - my list is slightly different, but can't really tell it is 3 - wacko lefties and nutjobs - spend it all on me, make people think like me 4 - wacko righties and nutjos - spend it all on me, make people think like me, and go to church the big gaping hole is the fiscal conservative/keep the social stuff private and personal sorry - you've heard that few times and most of us kind of fall into that category but we aren't talking about our positions which we each respect for each other, etc we're talking about Specter's true motivation for switching - I though Leiberman was sincere, I think Spector's is clearly not sincere ... 15. absolutely, and by definition as soon as his axe appears in the statement (for the slow here, the axe I'm talking about is the one he's apparently been grinding) then we need to fear his intents the only litmus test for a supreme court judge should be his record of upholding the law whether or not his decisions align with his personal biases. and confidence he'll continue to do so ... 16. over half the RW suits my wife delivers goes to people who do this: 1 - take off their shoes (the suit is designed so the shoes can fit through the knee joint and go straight into the toe cup 2 - pulls on the suit 3 - bends forward and look down (still no shoes) 4 - then call her and say (I think the booties are too long) 5 - also says the torso is long (when they bend forward and look down rather than look at it when in an arch position) sad part is, she includes a form on "how to check the fit of your booties" with the suit. 1 - wear the shoes you jump with 2 - don the suit 3 - pull the crotch up close as if wearing the rig (or just put on the rig 4 - either a - lay down and arch, extend the legs a bit and point the toes or b - sit down so the thighs and shins are at right right angles and point the toes 5 - etc (similar to much of the above) If I can find the text (not yet loaded onto the website) I'll send it to you. Short of it is - wear the same stuff you jump in to try the suit on - including the rig Arch - that's the position you use the suit in (as opposed to standing upright and slouching) Move the legs about and point the toes to see if the bootie makes a nice comfortable but rigid sail shape. suit makers have a hard job - everybody has a different idea of how a suit should fit. Usually they are wrong and they don't tell you until after they get the suit ... 19. Bucketing all Euro's in a single demographic is like saying all New Yorkers are the same as all Montanans I dunno...I'd be willing to bet money that 50% plus 1 (most) of the europeans really are scratching their heads in puzzlement as to why we (citizens of the USA) get so fired up about firearms issues. I was regressing from the specific firearms thing to just the whole 'nationalism' thing with the Euros. As far as firearms, I guess if you were a continent that was run over with war a couple times a century you'd either be very pro ownership or anti - depending on how much control of your own life you felt you had although I'd say 50% is a pretty good indicator of apathy on the issue one way or the other, ... 20. Bucketing all Euro's in a single demographic is like saying all New Yorkers are the same as all Montanans So a European who is really 'nationalistic' wouldn't be much different than a Georgian being very 'statalistic' you heard me ...... "statalistic" I make up words instead of going and looking up the correct one. That's right. (seriously, isn't that the whole reason this thread will derail itself eventually? the "istics" are all so subjectively defined, that we'll bog down just from each individuals bias towards what they think the word "nationalism" means - it can have the entire range of positive to negative connotations. And you can't have a clear debate as soon as one person biased all the way to one end tries to one up someone from the other end) ... His ears stick out If GWB had ears like that, his eyes would have eventually been pulled apart to normal spacing due to wind resistance while riding motorbikes If that logic follows, Obama will, in 8 years, be able to look to both the left and the right simultaneously. Give me your address and I'll mail them to you....I like to help... send to the DZ 1 (one) roll of duct tape 1 (one) heavy stick of Butter This is starting to scare me a little, but I'm trying to look beyond that? Could you give any hints on what you need these tools for? Remember now, I'm an old fart, whose brain might not be firing on all cylinders.... to fix anything, really - needs duct tape and a hammer, but you can't have tools, so hammer changed to stick but then Butters called me obese, so I thought a stick of fat would be good so I moved to the next step now I see that 'butter', looks a lot like Butters, so I should change that to a stick of cookie dough to keep the oddballs from playing gotcha and going down the mean humor path they like to do pretty much we've backed the whole thing into a corner now and there's no more ways to elevate any humor out of it ...
