Personally, I think texting while driving is irresponsible - among many actions I see. But I wouldn't make it, specifically, illegal. I would want to make illegal unsafe driving actions - so if a cop sees someone cross a line/drift, or nearly rear ends someone, etc, that is the reasong to pull them over - failure of control, or failure of attention, etc. The reason doesn't much matter. I could care less if it's a phone, texting, makeup, eating, whatever - but the driver has to demonstrate that he's hindered before being arrested. Anything else seems unnecessarily invasive. ... I really don't understand people who bring kids into a relationship to keep it from falling apart.. another one I don't get is divorced individuals with kids that 'vet' their dates out with their little ones under the guise of "I won't date someone my little (name) doesn't like" - that attitude is for the adult's benefit, not the child's - backwards It's the ultimate in cruelty to bring someone into a child's life and then they leave. (partners get cycled until we find the right one). You can't let those comments effect you - this place is full of them a LOT of people with no kids are young, but either way, those are super narcissistic responses when they say they can do "anything" they want and parents should leave with their kids if they don't like it. who is really advocating restricting who's freedoms here?
