Freedom OF religion means freedom FROM religion

It does depend on your point of view and location though. The mere existence of the Dali Lama seems to scare the crap out of the Chinese government. Not that he nor the people of Tibet are particularly militant, but the Chinese government certainly used more than enough force to take it over. I mean fanatics 'for' the religion, not fanatics 'against' a religion hell, any belief that is strongly held by a group develops a fanatical sect opposing it. Human nature - it's easier to be against something than the be for someting ... This is great news. I've seen this form of the comment a couple times. I've met Bill and Kathy and like them both just fine. They are decent people. I can see people that don't "know" Bill. But if you knew him, I can't imagine anyting worse than just neutrality, and most liking the guy. Just like anyone else in the world. If you know them, they are likable. ... Freedom OF religion means freedom FROM religion

I get it, you have a prejudice against christians. I'm not a fan of fanatics of any kind, and the christians do have a fare share, but I won't belittle an entire demographic. That's reserved for puppeteers - they are all the same. However, I like the content of the post - but the tone is terrible. exceptions: the country was a christian country when founded, because the people were christian - today we have a mix of a lot of belief systems - I like that the founders were very evident in that they wanted the "Government" to be a secular government, not the country, they wanted to country to be whatever it wanted to be - that was a wise move both in secular gov, and in letting the people choose for themselves. If you think the other religions are not trying to recruit, then you just haven't been exposed to them as much as the rest of us. Buddism seems to avoid creating fanatics and and missionaries pretty well, though - IMO ... I don't want that bus run into by a mom putting on makeup, someone texting, or a realtor reading a map, or a contractor digging in his backseat, or a college professor grading papers either....... I consider these all to be the same issue - from what I can tell, you guys want 5 different laws..... or, you are ok with those children dying due to 4 out of 5 of those things ... this isn't an 'aside' - this is exactly the point we're debating but you guys keep taking my point and turning into an incorrect strawhorse - so I'm done we want the same results, but think about attacking it from different directions ... don't be an ass about it - you are not reading my words I said if the cops sees a driver that "appears" to be distracted, they should have the option to pull them over right then so it's a question of whether we need a specific texting law that won't be enforced any better - or we need cops to have the leeway to enforce existing, more general, distracted driver laws already in place. the net result of this type of law will be apathy - only now, we can be pissed when we see people texting, but we can now say they are breaking the law and complain that there is not a cop around to see it - much like speeding, or singles in the carpool lane, or my example earlier, etc it's enforcement that matters, not just making a gesture this has nothing to do with your 'superhuman' insult - get over it - sometimes people have different opinions than you and it's not personal - I don't text, I don't like it when others text, but I don't think a specific law about it is an effective way to fix that ... Did you not even read this part? "I'd prefer it, for the cop to see that if a driver that appears to be distracted, for him to observe that for a bit to confirm it, and then pull that driver over at that point." this would apply to more than just your particular peeve - ANY careless/distracted behavior I guess you'd also arrest anyone that's even remotely bothering your sense of what you think is off. Whether is it's dangerous or not. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

sorry about that, the recent exposure here has trigger my cynic button - let's go with the "it's a subjective grey scale" standard response. I'd say that a specific law against 'texting' is a pain in the ass - a bandaid on a gushing wound. I'd prefer it, for the cop to see a driver that appears to be distracted, and for him to observe that for a bit to confirm it, and then pull that driver over at that point. I'd like to see that allowed via a single law (I believe we already have them) - rather than 22 different laws that just make different people feel good about their 22 different pet peeves. My parallel - I'd love it if they passed a law that outlawed all smoking everywhere. It's a distraction while driving for the driver and anyone near their open window. It's clearly unafe. ... Hey! Don't you use that term. That's their term. hey - A bacteria can, if it wants, be a heat lover or a cold lover. It's really none of my business. I'm just not comfortable with the term "bacteria" - it seems hurtful. They'd rather be called virus - even though that term is already in use. So I'm stuck. ... You did not even attempt to understand or address my arguments. I suspect he did, but this response was much more entertaining and closer to your point if you look past the irony blended in extrapolation is a great way to examine a point - though it does tend to piss off the originator you call welfare being the 'only means of support' for an addict - but the natural conflict is that it's more likely the enabler of the problem in the first place - chicken/egg thing there - so free money = drug supply = free money = drug supply you decide where to cut that chain - which link does society have direct control of rather than indirect? ... that's a real stereotype - the fringe of the right are religious about their deity; the fringe of the left are religious about different causes (enviromental fanaticism is just one topic). But the real fanatics are a pretty tiny percentage of either extreme. this poll was all about mocking the fringes (which are tiny) - so the mockery will drive a handful to scores of 1 or 10...... they caught you so if your prejudice is classical religion, then you are likely voting against what you dislike rather than for what you believe in. And instead of reading the responses, you likely knee jerked to answer the 'buzz' answers in reflex it's a humor poll - you just got joked by it let's see who gets a 10 and whether the logic is consistent ... no, that particular reply was about one thing - the irony of you replying to a post commenting about your blatant partisanship and your replying "typical of a rightie" - nothing more no matter how much your ego is wishing it were now, you also post here leading with a veiled insult you have zero value added here other than the humor others can find in your lack of respect for others, your unnatural partisanship and arrogance and the complete repetitiveness of your posts again and again - repackaging the same tired crap in different ways but with no substantive difference so, I'm ok to find humor in it and share that with others now you are free to take umbrage to this post - reverse insult again - cry that I'm not "able" to discuss whatever random point you are pressing here (though it's more not 'willing' or 'caring' to) - and then claim victory. Perhaps a few dozen links to some random sites would be nice also. I believe that's per the template you are using I do appreciate those last two replies being very short - you can be pithy - I was wrong on that. Edit: frankly, you don't really have reason to debate with me here, I'm only really interested in watching how the posters interact. Political debate is such a trivial thing in real life that I just comment to draw out interaction to observe behaviors and opinions. ... Sounds pretty good. It does sound good, and I bet every one of those scowling flag officers at the Address will agree Too. For that matter, I also bet most don't care at all about don't ask don't tell in either direction. Every flag officer I know only cares about performance - they don't much care about people's private lives as long as it doesn't impact the job. This topic isn't really a military topic, it's a political ping pong game that's played using the military to make hay. The military continues to be one of the most successful melting pots in this country.
