I thought the same thing until I took the AFF cert course. I found out I look at it all the time, it just doesn't register in my brain unless what I see is unexpected. Now I recall my checks more clearly not just when it sets off that alarm. I'd always have both a visual and my pro-track. And that's what I advise. trying to walk the talk here anyway. ... I think it's silly. And accuracy should be worked on until you don't need the alti at all really - eyeballs are much better once you're low enough. Though with 33 jumps in 2 years, you're better served getting more current. Certainly you aren't using the alti to set up swoops at 33 jumps?? HOWEVER, if 2 alti's make you comfortable, then that's all that matters. Not a bunch of dz.com commentaries. ... who would have guessed wind tunnels are so exhusting :)
rehmwa replied to alp27's topic in Wind Tunnels
"knackered" is a funny term with just a little general fitness, the tunnel stuff shouldn't be too bad for 15-30 minutes a day - more than that, it depends on the individual and how they deal with it ibuprofen isn't a bad idea ahead of time a BETTER idea is lots of water and stretching and getting fit ahead of time in whatever way gives you results ... Hogwash - do you really think they are protecting the guys on the firing squad? Or just doing something to make the public "FEEL" better. {{Actually - I think it's a means to protect the members on the firing squad from legal prosecution if the laws ever change and someone with your viewpoint tries to scapegoat them}} ... the blank isn't necessary - it's a milksop to those without the moral fortitude to recognize the actuality of protecting the citizenry from those that are a danger to others. One shouldn't be guilty any more than a judge should feel bad to send someone to jail. It should not be 'satisfying' or make one happy to have to carry out justice. But it should be correct in your mind as a necessity - distasteful, but needed. ... It's so true - but I don't know if it makes me laugh or cry Legislative branch: raises money to stay in office Executive branch: raises money to stay in office Judicial branch: ignores the law and does whatever their guts and unreasonable political bias tells them to do My favorite is still when congress members are grilling judicial candidates and say things like "Mr. ___, as a judge, you'll be responsible for writing law - how would you ............?" seriously? don't the legislators even know their own job descriptions? ... Scotland: Grandmother jailed over WWII 'family heirloom' pistol

If it was Minnesota the gun could be stolen, then sold to the government in a "guns for cash - no questions asked" program. Check the ballistics and the serial number. Then if they find out the gun was stolen, they won't arrest the thief and the gun won't be returned to the true owner but might instead be melted down into a liberal sculpture of some kind. only in the liberal mind set can a piece of property be stolen twice once the authorities get involved. and then turned into a piece of crap extra - if the stolen gun was used in a murder, then they also won't pursue the murderer all this couched with terms like "gun violence" (not violence done by PEOPLE who use the gun) and "gun crimes" (not crimes done by people) ... What do you think of these immigration laws?
rehmwa replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't think putting a spotlight on Mexico's laws will hold much weight. You should fine the immigration laws of a country a stereotypical liberal worships (like France) and then post them. It would be a better illumination. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants -
I think your political logic is dead on accurate - so far that's the only definitions I've seen that fits all of the threads here. It's the most fun when you can put out a belief here and half the people deride you as a raving liberal and the other half scream you are a loony conservative (and the other half post a ton of unrelated links to prove it) Abortions for all - BOOOOO Abortions for none - BOOOOO Abortions for some and tiny American flags for others - YAYYYYYY ... "to me.....{insert personal subjective label here}" there's the problem right there 90% of people want to keep their money and spend it the way they want to. They don't really care about what others choose to do as long as it doesn't bother them. They want the gov to intrude maybe on about 5% of issues. 10% (right or left wing) just can't help but push 90% of their own biases onto others and think the government should make it happen on all the issues. so two problems - that second group sucks all the time that first group's 5%-ers don't overlap so we have a lot of people passionate about a handle of very minor crap the rest don't care about ... I don't know what that means - does it mean pull down or let up? (this is what I'm inferring), just take the slack out of the brakes (a good brake setting lets the canopy fly with no tail deflection, plus a little more slack than that even - a couple inches), but no more (full flight still, just be ready) - if so, that makes the most sense to me thanks ... For newer canopy models, I'm not certain (full flight vs inducing extra speed with fronts while in the turb air) which is safer - I'd take it to the canopy forum or look up some of Brian's articles to clarify that distinction. I'm a 4way guy, not a canopy guy. But if you have an older canopy like a Maverick or Pegasus, then quarter brakes is appropriate and fronts is a mistake...... So it depends on the canopy. For my Stiletto, I like to do a long smooth front turn and then let it fly through the turbulence without the extra if I know it's down there ahead of time - but that's a special case. Otherwise, if I'm caught in turb, I just let it fly and minimize any inputs to no more than needed just to keep it on track. ... For some reason I remember Brian Germain teaching that..... or am I just wrong? Maybe he taught not to do that? I give a little front risers in turbulence. Is that okay? speed is your friend for many of the newer canopies partial brakes was a correct response on older 7 cells to help open the nose for more inflation - newer canopies appreciate more speed over inlet angle - someone help me with this one - I don't think I'm explaining as clearly as it's needed Wendy - the brakes thing I still see taught (incorrectly for most canopies) today. I like that "stated" political persuasion I doubt most understand what liberal and conservative really means vs the sterotypes of the terms puked out by their opponents in use today if you take a term and be sufficiently vague about it and then just try to attribute positive (and sometimes very contradictory) things to it (in other words, tell whatever audience you happen to be talking to at the time what they want to hear), eventually everybody will claim to be a member. And, eventually any wacked out idea you can pitch under that umbrella will be followed by most of the devotees. ... I'm not ridiculing for it. I'll ridicule the label because it's meaningless. Stating what you believe in and not trying to fit it into a label is more worthy, though. I think your post really highlights that most of us want the same things and that the fringy elements are driving all of us nuts. as for starve the beast - it could work, if we put responsible/ethical people in charge rather than 'politicians' but either way - cut spending/cut taxes, or cut taxes/cut spending, or both at the same time, or either one or the other - they are all in the direction of goodness. What we all know, is that increasing spending and increasing taxes at the same time (there's your real insanity) is a disaster ... A lot of newbies tune out advice when the main argument is "you need more experience". I'd argue that we actually mean they need more "correct" experience. But I'm willing to throw a few bones that way hoping that most of us old schoolers try to walk the talk as best we can. How about we put out a few examples of where old school is now realized to be incorrect or not the best and acknowledge that some colleagues aren't learning despite thousands of jumps. priming the pump: 1 - slow fall (beach ball is still recommended by old timers). IMHO with booties, long and flat is where it's at 2 - 45 degree rule for separation - need I say more? and this is a dangerous one. It's an old time rule that needs to be crushed. 3 - vertical separation matters for exit order (absolutely not a primary concern over winddrift) 4 - I see a lot of oldtimers that just don't ever finish their flares on HP canopies. But they do seem to still be able to run pretty good. any more? ... what a great and productive comment! a lot of newer jumpers hear the word "experience" and start to tune it out as just "time in sport" and quantity of jumps REAL 'experience' is just that, the "muscle memory" - hopefully responses learned from correctly doing the techniques over and over (though we know a lot of high number jumpers that have a TON of incorrect repetitions also) That's what most of us are asking aggressive new and good pilots to do when saying "get more jumps in play" - sure, they've done research and asked questions and got some coaching, etc (bravo). So they do 'know' what they are supposed to do, but only repetitions make the right responses more likely to be correct without thinking so the right actions also feel right and instinctive when it matters. ...
