nonsense - Kennedy had it right. License the individual to keep arms, don't make them list everything they own. It's simpler. If the individual commits a felony, then prosecute them. Then, (in Kallend's world), the new FELON will voluntarily (and happily, BTW) provide a list of all his guns and turn them in, or sell them to a legally licensed citizen, the moment the license is revoked. since you trust felons to follow obscure laws, this will work flawlessly Whoosh. Nice way to miss the point. you are just upset because your personal logic in requiring registration back fires under every critical look ... I think that the problem is that the "situation" we're discussing is rather vague. Some of us are assuming that it's two responsible adults we're talking about, and others are assuming that the person with herpes is some total asshole who is going around infecting people without warning. But I don't think the actual situation has been established. And I think that what I would do would depend a lot on the actual situation and people involved. That's way too nuanced for me. this hypothetical girl with herpes might be the most forthright and wonderful friend in the world. I would still be grateful if someone gave me the heads up. A good friend would still let you know. "Thanks a lot, she already told me" isn't the end of the world. "holy crap, she didn't say a thing, I'll ask her before it goes to the next level" really sucks, but isn't the end of the world. but "OMG, she didn't say anything, I have to get to the doctor asap" pretty much sucks in anyone's world. ... it's called jail and why are you so stuck on class - any INDIVIDUAL that commits and illegal act on another individual should go to jail as for 'exploitation' - how subjective can you be? One group hires illegally - that's a crime the other enters illegally - that's a separate crime we have to address both crimes - it's not "either/or" like you guys can't seem to grasp ... Mad skillz, a cocky attitude, a feeling that he gets it but no one really understands that or just wants to hold him back, a hot girlfriend (or pretensions to have one) alternate answer - he has as many jumps as me minus 1 real answer - (I don't push it, I like a good surf, but I don't do swooping to any real degree, nor have a desire to - I have a Stiletto 120, wl 1.7, I like the openings, glide ratio and in air dynamics, the landings are fun, but no issue off DZ, etc......) anyway, probably a progression of a minimum number of skills demonstrated (more than a few times each) on an equivalently sized semi-e canopy. Plus having really turned out all that he can get on the prior canopy rather than just downsizing and switching on whim. An understanding that choosing that canopy should be based on landing in the worst conditions, not ideal conditions. But, in the end, (in my world), it's a free country to own and risk in any way you desire. So if someone wants to do it, then that's their business but if they screw up they OWN it. I don't want to pay for their medical bills, or see them requesting help or donations for same, I don't want to see them blame or sue others for their mistakes, etc etc etc. Nor do I care for them making 'excuses' when they do stupid stuff in general. It gets old watching a 'certain' type of newbie get carted off in neck braces and splints just because they thought they were such a big deal and didn't get that validation in this sport. Skydivers aren't really easily impressed, so taking up skydiving to shore up a soft ego is a stupid choice. It's a fun and challenging sport(s) - no more, no less. ... I'm assuming that you do that because you can't track very well. I suspect he does that because he's freeflying and breakoff is usually safer to back track at first (avoids odd corks and keeps your eyes on the others). But at some point, a FF'er should roll to stomach track to finish that separation (and then the rest of your comment is absolutely true) at some point, staying on the back (longer than everyone else) just keeps you too steep and it's a bad track ... Nope - it depends on the kid Andrea - did you give your boy the right foundation to make good decisions? (the answer is yes) - so he's an adult now and he gets to make his own decisions - he'll do fine (or not) no matter where he lives or the friends he chooses (or not) (I didn't like anything I saw in college about that entire system - but that's just an opinion) ... Hey Squeak - I disagree, but respect your right to have your personal opinion. Easy enough - If I was single and your friend. Two hypotheticals then - 1 - I'll respect your personal boundaries stay out of it if you get into that situation. You're a big boy. 2 - Please tell me what you know if I ever get into that same situation. But only because I'm letting you know now. It's what I'd expect from a friend. in this situation, the only way to respect each other's beliefs is to agree ahead of time - just in case ... Poor Tracking Skills in Europe ??
rehmwa replied to kkeenan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The ability to track like a rocket is not a bad skill, especially on the outside of a big-way; however, if you're close to the base on a 100-plus way, you don't want to over track people in the outer waves. Tracking in groups is a skill too. oops - totally agree and just finished editing my comment prior to seeing yours. Really Big ways is about everyone doing what they said they would so to minimize surprises. ... Poor Tracking Skills in Europe ??
rehmwa replied to kkeenan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think that's nuts - you can become a great tracker even if you only do 2-ways. You just have to commit to it and seek out good advice (like 'sg' notes). In every dive, I want to be "that guy at track off" that stands out from all the others due to a good track. The best compliment I ever had was overheard by my wife. We just completed a 20 way and 1 dot was cruising away from all the other 19 dots like they were standing still - someone turned to one of our (lifetime - was raised at the DZ) packers and said "wow, look at that guy", he responded "I bet it's Bill" I think that's neat. And that time it actually was me (other times it could be someone else). We have a handful of super good trackers at our DZ, and we tend to feed on each other to go faster every time. Really big ways can be another animal, where you stick with the zone leader for a ways, and then track like hell from the subgroup - that's more about large group dynamics and following instructions so that the traffic is predictable. If you can't follow the leadership on those-ways, take up another discipline. ... Work your license requirements and try a bit of everything - but a 100 jumps or more on your belly is a good idea before dinking around with the other orientations.
