  1. Hopefully the politicians will learn that trying to manage the economy through artificial "stimulus" efforts just causes "bubble damage" then maybe 'real' changes can help a real turnaround rather than catering to sound bites and polls ... 2. not that common I've seen here on DZ.com a comment about not front risering into a head wind as the wind hits the top of the canopy a comment about cross winds collapsing an end cell more of that ilk ... 3. no, we agree. I just want to eliminate the current set too and just start from scratch, rather try to fit everyone into the current system. 6. I'm saying ditch those rights that we "currently associate" with legal partnership and make it ALL a non-issue The premise that any of this is needed is based on more government enforcement (and the need to tax that exchange). If we own something jointly, and I die, then her name is already on the papers. Make a Will, then government can exist to just enforce that without anyone else butting in. ... 7. What help from behind? there's no help from behind. He's saying that you're always flying forward, therefore getting big is a detriment all the time (applies not matter how fast the ground speed is - even if it's negative) it's confusing because they all keep referencing ground speed - which has nothing to do with drag - thus talking groundspeed just highlights a lack of understanding the aerodynamics of drag if we are talking a car or train, then groundspeed matters - too bad, we're talking about flying ... 8. I'm saying the help from behind would not be enough to counteract the detriment you'd be getting from the 50mph you're going into with a big body as funny as you two are being with you, it's gotta be confusing for those that don't get airspeed vs ground winds unless you are flying the canopy collapsed and backwards, we are ALWAYS flying 'forward into the wind' no matter which direction we're pointing and no matter which direction the ground winds are blowing (some smartass may also point out that climbing up one set of side risers might cause a side slip - I'm ok with that) ... 11. certainly it can't be a situation where the last admin shifted so far away from libertarian values, that the libertarians just couldn't identify with them any more. The reps became more like the dems - spend and spend and spend, and push more social issues. I think you're just pissed that they left the republicans, but still couldn't hold their noses enough to join your party which was still worse on libertarian issues. They'd rather splinter off than join either side. and you wonder why the centrists and libertarians abandoned that ship??? They'd rather sit in a raft and float rather than climb aboard one of two sinking ships it's still "with us or against us" with you guys - You're happy because you now are into the 10th year of GWB politics (on steroids) - hell, you now even have Georgie's general in charge again.... the fact that you can't see the difference between Republicans and Libertarians just highlights that you're looking at them from a distance. I can't see much difference between Reps and Dems, frankly. ... 12. That's fine, essentially, a libertarian isn't a drone for either party. You seem to think that equate to fewer balls....... what's wrong with standing up for those parts you agree with and not standing up for the stuff you don't believe in? Even when some of each is from both parties and even, GASP, from your own values as an individual.... Fiscally conservative, and socially "mind you own business" doesn't fit either party if one is mindless enough to stand up for either party's "whole platform" you seem to be saying "you're either with us or against us" well, mission accomplished ... 14. absolutely - labels are so much fun (mostly, I'm just trying to point out that most of the discrepancies people have in what they call each other is not based on the actual beliefs, but in the personal opinion of what the poster claims the terms to mean - that's why focused discussions are so much more fun. And they lose interest as soon as the name calling starts - pretty much 4 or 5 posters hit it early, that's why most thread suck after about 3 posts. in some cases the first sentence) ... 16. the camera, the fast canopy, freeflying too soon, swooping too soon, base too soon, etc, etc, etc, etc I guess individually, I can find ways to help a newbie get going on any one of them, even if it is early. But the general attitude I see is newbies thinking they can just jump into all of them, without good training, before good habits/responses are learned and they think they'll be great at it without training. So much of the resistance is just against this whole "I am entitled to all of this NOW". Which tends to create people with poor skills, potential for overload, and burnout and a skill set where no one wants to jump with him except another guy just like him - ok, they are welcome to smash each other into hamburger and think it's steak. One real point - The skydiver that wants to try one thing early is also one that'll think he can do 3 things early. That's why we push back on "that guy". We don't want him to hurt himself (I don't much care about that, but I don't want him to hurt others or me) People want to learn, but any generic structure that's laid out will be based on the most conservative approach and will be frustrating, by definition, to most newbies. Each of these guys needs to be handled locally. I almost think that we should just not respond to "those posts" on DZ.com and just point them back to their locals who have a vested interest in developing their guys at a pace appropriate for their environment. no solution here, just thoughts ... ' as you wish - full face for RW - clear visor (communications, keeping a seal around my dry eyes, helmet for comfort and because we go pretty fast and a knee in the face sucks) goggles with a mindwarp for teaching and Freefly - clear lenses (communications, keeping a seal for dry eyes, more face exposed for even more communications) goggles for CrW - clear (clear because it's usually close to sunset, goggles because my eyes dry out easy on the longer canopy ride) for RW and FF, I do like to raise the faceshield or pull down the goggles for the canopy ride (better visibility, more comfortable on hot days) plus, why would I want to lose my sunglasses? ... 20. Wow, a TRUE libertarian is pro-government intrusion. Who'd'a thunk it? your personal definitions are still biased as you find politics to only be defined by what one is a militant activist for - some just don't care about politics and find them to be a bunch of whiny children arguing over subjective crap, or even a bunch of insincere thieve playing the public for power and $$$ some people just want to stay out of other people's business and have them stay out of theirs - what's truly wrong with that? Your example of gay marriage - a libertarian, by definition, does not care who marries who. If he sees a case where a specific situation is unfairly restricted you might predict he'll react in one of two ways 1 - he might stay out of it - if enough people just stayed out of it, the couple wouldn't have had the problem in the first place, or; 2 - he might find it unfair enough to get involved on behalf of those being constrained. To restrict your definition to just the 2nd group isn't the full picture If asked about his position? "what a stupid question, it doesn't affect me either way" and "marriage shouldn't even be part of government" If you refuse to let people live their owns lives without interference - I don't see those extreme religious busy bodies as any different than the extreme left-wing thieves ... Speeding

+1 then to all the tough guy stories - - road tantrums are childish weavers never really seems to get there faster no matter how stupid they drive speed 'limits' seem pretty stupid - I'd rather they posted (and enforced) speed ranges.
