Most women who train seriously at martial arts are strong enough. Yes, a big burly dude can hit pretty damn hard, especially if he knows HOW to hit. But there is a threshold, and well trained women are strong enough to meet that threshold... the amount of force needed to injure, incapacitate, or knock someone out. Other important factors are speed, skill, and experience. I know personally a couple women who train quite hard... one is a competitive boxer, the other has about 8 years of Systema under her belt. They both have speed, skill, and experience. They also train with and against men much bigger than themselves. Believe me when I say you don't want either of them pissed at you. They can and WILL hurt you... a lot. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?

Another thing to consider: When one speaks of 'race', one is referring to a specific set of genetic characteristics. It is entirely possible, however, for a Nigerian man to have more in common, genetically, with a Scandinavian woman, than with his male neighbour. Race does not discuss myriad other genetic traits, of which a very very short list might include height, propensity to obesity, eye shape, eyebrow thickness, length and thickness of digits... the list is as endless as are the variations amongst humans. That is why most anthropologists who are worth their salt no longer talk about race. Usually they will refer to ethnicity, which is to say, cultural heritage. Racism, sexism, or any other ism that pertains to bigotry, is judging a person by logically irrelevant criteria. If you say Africans generally have dark skin... that is a statement. A generalization, but just a statement. If you say Africans are all stupid, then you are being racist. One is a statement based on factual observation, the other is a derogatory statement relating intelligence to race. Did this come up recently for you? Did you make a factual statement, and be accused of racism? Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?

Nice job ignoring the meat of the post. Interesting you don't mention any of the other spending that got us into debt, like military adventures in Iraq. I thought handouts covered it.

When children are told to report to the authorities on the activities of their parents, freedom is non-existent. Freedom to do what you are told is no freedom at all. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy? -
Yes it is. Not sure why it is a law, but, yep, there is a law against it. But then, as I was mentioning in another thread, I don't listen to the law when it goes against my common sense. In this case, though, my common sense tells me that if I couldn't manage a marriage with one person, perhaps it is better if I don't try and get married to two people. But then, that is just me. So what would you prefer to happen in the scenario I put forth two posts back? What if you were in love with one male and one female. Should you be able to marry Both of them? Personally I tried that marriage thing, and even with one person it really didn't work out too well. But my feeling is that so long as everyone in the situation is in love with one another, and is happy to be with each other, and is willing to commit to each other in a relationship...and it is all consensual acts between adults, then I am fine with it! The short termer's ask questions to validate their own level of commitment in the sport/hobby. When you stop caring what others think of you... You have arrived. Nice :) Totally agree. This is true for most things in life. There is no need to judge others because their passion is not the same as yours. Be happy they tried! What is life if not an opportunity to experience? Actually, it does! If I feel a law is unjust, and works against the common good, or is unethical, I will be fine in breaking it. In fact, I believe it is necessary to question the acts of the state. If we don't, we allow the state to do as it will, and that can bring us closer to a fully totalitarian government, like the Soviet Union. Better to resist it as much as possible. It is the more dangerous way.. the state has a lot of power... but it is also the morally better way. Both the US and Canada are predicated on the freedoms of their people. But it is still up to the people to fight for that freedom, even if it is the state that is becoming the enemy. Edit: Agh! I must stop.. sorry. It has been a good discussion. OK on to other things :) Be well! Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy? -

Personally I think the consequences should be paid by the state. And while you may not violate a legal agreement to protect an act you feel acts against your judgment, he did. Which is one of the things that makes the two of you different! Sometimes the law is unjust. I don't see a good reason to defend an unjust law. Just my 2 cents. And strangely, they use communist style tactics of monitoring and citizen watching. The term is "authoritarian". And you don't have to be communist to be authoritarian. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy? -

It seems to me the real pricks are those who were spying on their own people and violating their privacies. The NSA got caught engaging in some real Soviet style violations of freedom. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy? -

There are parts of the US that are no better than Venezuela! Shacks, no jobs, no money, high crime... As for no money... once he settles down somewhere I am sure someone will offer him money for book rights or some such thing. It takes courage to stand up for what you believe is the right thing. I wish we had someone like that exposing some of Harper's government here in Canada... Remember, just because the state thinks it is wrong, doesn't make it wrong. And just because the state thinks it is right, doesn't mean it is automatically right. Why drive myself crazy trying to be normal, when I am already at crazy?
