So what does everyone else think? Is there a chance in hell of another "space race" now that China has sent someone up? Here is a bit from cnn. I sure hope a "race" of some sort begins. I'll have a degree in aerospace engineering in May and this would be excellent for the aerospace industry. Unfortunately, my cynical half thinks the majority of Americans don't see the space program as all that important and the thought of China eventually passing us in space technology does not concern them.

I agree. Just sounds like a bad idea.

When I first started packing, I labeled the steering lines because I kept on getting them confused with other lines. I just put a big S on the line attachment point. With practice, you will be able to identify the line groups without any markings.

Yep, I would agree. Looks like the plane on the right has the light source from above, while the left plane has a light source from the right. Excellent job however!!

Bwhahahhahaha!!!!!!!! Thats great!!

hey, my post wasn't in reply to you, i just clicked on the last post in the thread. I never said what he did was ok. I never said anything about saints or monsters. I just said it was a damn funny video and it looks like he acted without thinking. I do agree with you though that sports figures do get special treatment when they do really boneheaded things.

That video has got to be the funniest thing I've seen in baseball in awhile. However, that was a sincere apology. Looks like Zimmer just acted without thinking first.

Holy God, that is the last thing I want to see at 8 in the morning. Gots to have some kinda warning on thatta one...

No shit!! I had to listen to the Aggie game on the radio and I loved every second of it. I just wish I could have seen that WHOOP ass instead of listening to it. I did get to see OU kick the shit outta t.u. though. Today was a good day indeed.

I'm sorry to hear this quade. It really sucks that after almost 30 years they can just let you go like that. But I agree with what you said, "Fuck 'em" I don't know, professional skydiver sounds good though.

Need input/info on Vector II, Raider 220 Main and Maverick 200 Reserve
aero04 replied to rylord's topic in Gear and Rigging
Shoving a rolled nose as far as you can into the canopy is a very sure way of eventually experiencing a line-over malfunction. When you push the nose in, it pushes the steering lines apart and they migrate towards the nose of the canopy. They can very easily move around the front of the nose when you lay the canopy down to "cocoon" it. Additionally, during the "cocoon" process, when you are squeazing out the air and shaping the cocoon to fit the d-bag, the lines tend to migrate even more. If they are in front of the nose as the canopy inflates, one or more outboard cells can pressurize outboard of the steering lines and you have a line-over. Just for fun some day, after you have cocooned the canopy and are ready to stack it for placement into the d-bag, carefully unroll and open the tail. taking note of where the steering lines are in relation to the nose cells. If they are over the nose, you are at an increased risk of a line-over. If you are not sure of what I am describing, or what to look for, ask a rigger for some help. You are absolutely right on this. Many thanks for bringing this up. I am very aware of the risk and try to minimize it. When I first started packing, I could see through the topskin the steering lines had moved to the side on all my packs. I asked around and got a few pointers. Now it is rare. I kinda work the nose forward very slowly and carefully. I check every packjob to make sure no lines have moved to the sides because I know of the increased risk. Occasionally however, a line does work its way to the side. Aggiedave and Pablito have shown me a method of moving the lines back to the center. Works pretty well. -
Need input/info on Vector II, Raider 220 Main and Maverick 200 Reserve

I have a Raider 220 main, but I've only got about 65 jumps on it. I can tell you what I think of it. For me, it is a good first canopy. It flies much like the student canopies I jumped, but it is more responsive due to the slightly higher loading. (My WL is 1.04 BTW). The openings, at first, were horrible. Hard openings were common for the first 15-20 jumps. To get a soft opening now, I VERY tightly roll the nose maybe 4-6 rolls, and shove it as far into the canopy as I can. Before I roll the tail, I pull the slider out a bit and make a little pocket with it. Then roll the shit out of the tail. I think the landings are fine, flaring with one stroke seems to work well. -
With this post I have 6,136 posts to go to get on this list! I'm on my way!!!!

How to land a parachute a little faster?

I'm sorry for getting off topic here, but in the attached pic, what happened to your shoe?? -
Would you let a non jumper pack your reserve??
aero04 replied to callmewhuffo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Whether you jump or not doesn't matter to me. If you've got that riggers ticket, I'd let you pack mine. -
This almost happened to me. I was about the same age. My grandparents had a barn or shed or something that was right beneath the power lines that connected to their house. One day I was playing around with my cousins outside and I climbed up on the roof of this shed. For some unknown reason, I reached up with both hands and grabbed the wires. Fortunately, I wasn't electrocuted.

I'm fortunate in that I have no debts yet, so can't do that. However when student loans come due, I'll be up to arse in debt... I'd buy a brand new rig, new container, main, reserve, cypress, audible, and everything else I've said, "When I have some more cash, I'll have to buy that." Then I'd put about 1000 away in savings and put the rest to my loans.

Yep, we lay awake at night wondering how we are going to beat tech. Look you guys had a better FB team and won, we lost. Oh well shit happens. You know what KILLS you tech folks? The fact that you've tried repeatedly to start a rivalry between us, and you guys know we still don't give a shit about your one sided rivalry. As Dave said, we've got one rivalry, and it is not you. *sigh* You should come down to College Station and see who the Aggies are rather than making these kind of ridiculous comments. You'll find tons of Aggies at any away game. Especially those in Texas. So you win a game that you think is a huge game and you destroy school property?? I've never understood that one. I don't wish to start an argument with you Zlew, but damn, it is just a football game. Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of '04

What was the first piece of equipment you purchased?
aero04 replied to freeflydrew's topic in Gear and Rigging
Altimeter first. Then everything else. -
I have a Racer made in 1989. While not the prettiest rig on the dz, it works just fine. As Skybytch and Wendy said, it is all in how the rig was taken care of. The person that owned the rig before me was anal about care and maintenance, therefore, the rig is good shape for the number of years on it. And I've tried to be the same way for the year I've had it. It has been a adequate for a first rig. (I say adequate because I thought it was freefly safe, bought it, found it later is isn't, yada, yada, yada. Nothing to do with safety.)

Let me think. I can remember dressing up in a karate uniform one year, a vampire another year. My face broke out badly after all that white paint. That's about it, I lost interest in dressing up for Halloween when I was very young.
