I disagree, I don't think it was remotely fair. ... ... ... The Taliban should have been allowed to call for backup... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

I'm not sure. Are they still gonna put Fluoride in it? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

I never saw Darius use the or imply "justification", hence my objection. You're right though, it's not my place to speak for him so I'll bow out for now. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Understanding the trigger =/= justifying the reaction. Ergo - strawman. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

How old are you? If you want to presume that people beating you will actually decide "he's had enough," that's your prerogative, but it's short sided. A guy with a baton can end your life at will, or at least put you in the same sort of shape as this unfortunate baseball fan. Early 30's. They wanted money, plain and simple. Life isn't as cheap here - while I agree that baton could have left me in much worse shape than I was, the objective was to cause enough pain to get compliance. I'm good at avoiding conflict, this time I didn't get a choice. Both GZ and TM had a choice. Both of them, IMO, are paying for choosing wrong. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

I don't get how quite a few people keep going with the "he was trying to beat GZ to death" bit. I got mugged about 6 years ago. Three guys, one of them had a telescopic baton. My injuries were worse than GZs. It was a very unpleasant experience. But at no point did I think they were actually trying to kill me. I really have a hard time with what appears to be a cultural acceptance that it's perfectly ok to end a fist fight with a gunshot. I get and agree that what Zimmerman did was, ultimately, legal. I'm still not convinced it was right. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

I stopped reading here. Obviously this dude has no clue the amount of death and destruction we have either done or had a hand in over the last 60 years. So, you do believe there really was justification for the cowardly murders of 3000 innocent people ...the 60 years of death and destruction wrought by the Great Satan. These 3000 must have had a hand in that desolation. This does seem to validate the author's observation that early Muslim condemnation (particularly by Muslim leadership) of the attacks on innocents by Muslims really must come with the caveat that they were justified in doing so. There really can be no "stand-alone" condemnation based on any moral or lawful standard. So, it seems that they should have no complaints over the drone attacks. Their rules, and all. My, what an impressive straw man! Did you build him all by yourself? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Do smokers have a Negative Personality Type?
mistercwood replied to ChrisD's topic in Speakers Corner
+1 I started at 17, quit for I think the 4th time at 25, and that one's stuck. I don't think I was inherently less mature then or more mature now for any reason linked to the smokes, nor do I think it of my friends that smoke now. I do of course call them junkies every time they go out for one, though... I think my biggest actual criticism of smokers is just how much of a waste of money it is. From time to time I still get a big nostalgic for smoking, to be honest. There's no way in hell I could find room in my budget for a pack a day habit again, though... Personal Armed Drones and the 2nd Amendment
mistercwood replied to mistercwood's topic in Speakers Corner
This. I found it immediately very telling that only one of the shots showed the target and the weapon in the same shot, and with such a huge fov that you'd have no way of telling if the phone was hit or not. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
Come on, man, I thought we'd actually found something to agree upon across the aisle, elsewhere. Less pigeon holing please... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Heads up on pilot harassment and warrantless searches by the feds
mistercwood replied to robinheid's topic in Speakers Corner
Fair call. I was in this instance tying the warrantless wiretaps to the Patriot Act in turn to the NDAA and now the latest shit. But you're correct, overall it does boil down to what the last guy got away with setting the stage for what the next guy gets away with. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -

It got started, arguably, when the office was created. Don't fixate on the actor and lose sight of the act - this should be about fixing the issue, not fixing the blame. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
I really hope people don't keep skipping over this. Easily one of the most accurate comments I've seen in my short time on SC... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

In a rare instance, we agree. Bush set precedent (as is implicit in the role), Obama has run with it and set his own. It's already pretty damn scary. The really scary part is waiting to see what the next guy* does with that precedent when they get to play... *regardless of party - what the last guy got away with sets the stage for the new guy. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
The issue, as I understand it, is when the plan goes wrong. Horizontal separation goes out the window if you suddenly have someone decide to deviate from the plan and pull high/low, or fights a malfunction long enough to drift back along jump run before cutting away that they end up right on top of the ones who exited before them. I could be way off here, but someone will certainly enlighten us in due course... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Made clicky. I came across this one yesterday, the one you've linked I believe is not the original. The one I saw had much more colourful commentary below... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

GoPros right off of student status?
mistercwood replied to Tetrahedron's topic in Safety and Training
I'll cop to the shitty analogy... The problem with demanding statistics is that the data you're after is mostly self-reported, so regardless of whether you think there's a case to be made - or not - it's going to be hard to show just in numbers. At that point it may be worth listening to the (multiple) people who've been jumping longer than you've been breathing saying it's maybe not so smart. Maybe I was premature on bingo. Didn't you ask somewhere else though on how much attention dz's paid to new jumpers and what they were flying? If I remember right, you said something along the lines of wanting to know exactly where the line was so you could get right up next to it. I coupled that with the camera thing, your general attitude to basically everyone here who's disagreed with you, the maturity of your posted jumps/years and... well. Maybe not so premature. As Pops says, YMMV. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -

It's not against the rules for me to fill my bathtub with petrol and juggle matches in there. Not many statistics to say I shouldn't, either. August 20th. I've not played before, do I get first dibs on his gear if I'm closest? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -

I just thought I should point something out about Joey's jump numbers - he's never meant for that to be his actual count. I guess there's not many gamers on this forum, since no one else has worked it out. "1337" is supposed to spell "leet", a bastardisation of "elite", which is what all the pro Counter Strike players were around the turn of the millennium. Couple his "elite" skills with his "69" years in the sport (I see what you did there!!!) and you've learnt all you need to know about widdle JoeJoe... Feds suggest anti-Muslim speech can be punished
mistercwood replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
Thanks for the corrections, interesting. This was the sort of thing that I was actually thinking of when I mentioned hate speech - advocacy/incitement to violence against a specific group, in this case Muslims. I.e. A rally of people chanting "Moozies go home" = (pathetic) but ok. Rally of people with head guy on a megaphone shouting "Let's go down to (local mosque) and kick those ragheads asses!" = not ok. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -

mistercwood replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
He does kind of have a point there, at least. If they're talking about hate speech, it's valid (correct me if I'm wrong, but hate speech is not protected under the 1st, yes?). If he's just trying to make people stop saying bad things about Islam, it's not. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -

Dude. Obviously they worked out how to hide it - they've already got the tech to manipulate the weather, once that part's worked out then hiding that input would be peanuts. Duh! You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
