Was it because someone else was controlling the chute? My first tandem for fun I definitely felt a bit weird during the canopy flight, but I was waaaay more comfortable with my own rig in AFF knowing what sort of G forces to expect in a turn and when. ETA - Lee beat me to it and clarified more... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Holy crap. This is it. I think an entire nation* just jumped the shark. *I know this thing is ludicrous to the majority. But when your elected representatives call this a press release, you're in deep shit. My condolences. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

So if a baby dies just after birth, the sins they were born with are then sending them to hell. Seems a little wonky. The baby has not sinned and thus would not be damed to hell. Just saying When does sin start then? The first time the baby keeps its parents up at night? The first time they draw on a wall? I thought the whole issue was original sin, and that you're damned until you do something about it. Baby's get a semi-pass, but if they're not baptised then they go to purgatory. Or something. What if the baby grows up and does sinful things according to the Bible, but they were born in one of the many many many countries that doesn't have Christianity as a core faith? If they're not exposed to it and don't know that some other countries god is the real one, are they really sinning? Makes it seem like the whole game's kinda stacked to set a whole bunch of people up to fail... You know, unless they just comply. I'd say you did what seemed right at the time, worst you could be accused of would be being cautious. I'm not 100% convinced the shots are real though. Why is one man swinging the blade in the second shot then a different man is holding it and the head in the third shot? This wouldn't be the most difficult 'shop job in the world, though the shadows look pretty good. Too hard to tell with something this low-res. Were the originals you saw clearer and obviously real? Not doubting your instincts, just wondering if you'd seen something that ruled out the likelihood of editing. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Yes. You claimed 7000 protesters were calling for dead cops. That's quite a lot. There is actual evidence of approx 150 people chanting that they want dead cops. While that is not in any way a good number, it is a much much smaller number of people, and far less likely to represent any sort of concerted movement to assassinate LEO's. Let's start over then - what exactly is it you wish to discuss here? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

+1. This is a discussion forum, for discussion*. It's the video you linked to originally, and it's the only reference I had - based on that my estimate was accurate. It is not "crazy" for me to work with the evidence presented. Ok so that gives me a little more to work with. I see nothing else on that page where people are crying out for cops to die. If the protest groups were split up when they marched, is there any footage or are there any substantiated reports of any of the other groups chanting the same/similar things? I'm not trying to give you a hard time here, but if the 30 second clip is the only instance of that then you still have a tiny group saying stupid shit. Not a "movement" committed to killing cops. In addition: You might want to calm down a bit. Loading up on the "crazy" emoticon when you haven't presented evidence to support your claims is a wee bit misplaced. I was responding directly to your assertion that the Fox clip was not edited in any way to conflate the protesters with the Sharpton speech. An assertion that was clearly and demonstrably wrong. I've gone back and watched the original video of the NY protest. There's maybe 150 people there tops? I think it's a fucked up thing for them to be chanting, absolutely, but how much influence could they really have on a city of 8.4 million? They were idiots, chanting idiotic things protected under the constitution. Unless it qualifies as a hate-speech type of thing - any lawyers on here care to chime in? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Are you serious? You missed the bit where there's broadcast quality TV during the DAY of Sharpton, immediately cutting to amateur cellphone video at NIGHT of the chanting, then back to the broadcast of Sharpton during the DAY??? This was the first time I've looked at the footage tbh, and I'm somewhat boggled that anyone could be taken in by such an obvious hatchet job and seriously believe all the footage was still from the same event at the same time. Unless I'm missing something previously discussed that clears up this obvious disconnect? (Edited for typos) You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. I do stand corrected, I'll admit I was probably a bit broad with my statement. I'd say this likely stemmed from the higher visibility in recent years of cases citing the SYG and CD laws you list. It's easy to forget how much legal variation you guys have from state to state when they're so numerous and tiny... I guess an extension of what I was referring to with culture would still apply though, in that in the states that have these laws there was sufficient support to have them pushed through. I agree with you that several court tests of these laws have had questionable results, but now those results are precedent... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Bingo. When I say that "culture" is one of the key factors in the level of US gun violence, this is what I mean. Your nation has determined repeatedly that it is acceptable to end a fist-fight with a bullet, and so people (sometimes) don't bother finding ways to defuse confrontations - since they're more or less allowed to pop the other guy if things get heated enough. Guns are a part of your nation, I get that the genie is out of the bottle there. I think it's the cowboy mindset (from some) that can still be addressed at a cultural level. Combine that with stricter storage requirements and penalties and you might see a reduction in pointless deaths. YMMV. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Thank you for that. Exactly the way I feel, but so hard to make people understand. +1. I love the HDSF image for much the same reasons. I occasionally debate theology with more religious friends, and it's the sheer scale of the universe that for me puts the lid on it. Could there be a "first cause"? I don't believe so at all, but I couldn't rule it out - as you say, I just don't know. Could you talk to it if there was? Absolutely not. To presume you could is (to me) the height of human arrogance, and my biggest gripe with organised religion. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Who is "they"? You need to be a bit more specific before you advocate for the nuclear annihilation of such an ill-defined group. Still waiting for this rather key piece of information... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Well, if you're charged with writing laws it's kind of important that you know what you're doing, IMO... My perception is Democrats like to right vague laws and hope they get put in front of an "activist" judge who can use his "wisdom" to decide what it means that day. That's not the rule of law, as I understand it. You spelt "politician" wrong - that type of behaviour isn't split down party lines... Interesting that the article you provided strongly implies that the property purchase was government backed/funded, while still (briefly) stating the fact that the money and intent to purchase was coming from a private company. Yes they had existing federal contracts, but none regarding the proposed service they were intending to supply. The comments section would indicate people read what they wanted to read and saw it as the former. Reading your proposal, I could potentially see this being executed in a quite humane and efficient fashion - I'm expecting/hoping you have the same vision for it. Unfortunately I could also - and much more easily - see it being incredibly undignified and mismanaged. While the movie District 9 is of course a work of fiction (love that film), the camp system depicted there could very easily be the one you end up with. Our government's approach for years to the asylum seeker issue has so far yielded results far closer to that outcome than I and many others are comfortable with - expensive, inefficient and degrading to all involved. I hope whatever you guys come up with is better. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -

FWIW, our government's been doing this as policy for years (offshore, but same principle). It's primary achievement has been to put a whole lot of tax-payer dollars in the pockets of the private security companies running the detention centres, and not much else. Of course our system for god knows what reason is taking months on end to process asylum applications, rather than the weeks you propose, and is the main reason the process is a great big sink-hole for cash. YMMV. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
