  1. The second I saw the thread title, and that it was in SC and not BF, I got sad. Anyone here - and I don't care which way you lean - using kids dead from a natural disaster as political point scoring? Go to hell. You should be ashamed of yourself. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  2. That's tragedy, not comedy... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  3. Looks like my tinfoil stocks are gonna get a sweet boost! You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  4. It's been the most common first name in the world for a couple decades... what's your point? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  5. Sorry, I'll just roll my eyes then, shall I? I passed no judgement on the rest of the speech. I found it quite interesting. I merely asked for clarification on a point that I found confusing. Way to reach across the aisle there, buddy... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  6. I watched it. My only confusion was where he said you would be forced to purchase Obamacare even if you liked your current coverage - I thought the point was it was only mandatory if you had no coverage at all? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  7. Other black kids, maybe? Looking at that comment in the context of what was said before, that would be a logical conclusion. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  8. I'm a fairly optimistic guy, so I'd say it's about 30/70 content to noise. I'm including the content that I disagree with as well, but that still gives me new things to learn, new angles on topics. Like Wendy said though, it helps to be a fast reader... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  9. How anyone in this thread has a wingloading less than 5 is beyond me... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  10. That's not music, doesn't qualify. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  11. Just out of curiosity, did any of you actually translate the title to get an idea of who the players were? Or did you just hear "Allahu akbar" and assume they'd just rounded up randoms off the street? ETA: That was rhetorical, of course. This was an execution, not murder. Their appeals process is just clearly a lot shorter than yours. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  12. Australian BAC limit has been 0.05 since I was a kid. Penalties for violation are nasty. Recent changes to laws regarding cellphone usage in cars means you can push a button to answer a call, that's pretty much it. Penalties for violation are nasty. Why? It deters people. Road safety is quite important to the majority of our populace - we don't think so much about the restriction on ourselves, we think about the drunk driver running a red light at 90 and killing a family of four. No one wants to be that guy. Now that I'm actually thinking about it, I can't think of anyone (of age) I know that can't calculate BAC quite easily off the top of their head. We're a drinking culture, sure, but we don't like fines and we like keeping our licenses... If you need help (if the limit drops to .05 for you) - males can have 2 standard drinks in the first hour, and one every hour following that. Females are 1 per hour. Standard drink is 30ml spirit, 100ml wine (13%), 285ml beer (4.8%). I just thought about it some more. The proposed change means basically one less drink at the end of the night, or waiting an extra hour and having some water before driving home. If that's such a huge imposition, leave the car at home and take a cab. Or just stay home where you can get really wasted... 13. It's a first step. People are saying it's such an impractical device that's so expensive and that there's cheaper options you can already make yourself. That's true, right now. What stage of development were 3D printers at 10 years ago? Ok, now project another 10 years down the track. Like any other useful technology, it's going to get cheaper, faster, and more advanced. IMO any legislators trying to restrict this sort of thing at this point are too late, the genie's out of the bottle. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. 14. That's when you've got ten thousand spoons but all you need is a knife? Isn't that ironic? Don't you think? You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  15. And I think he genuinely believes he's doing the right thing in these scenarios. I don't, however, think he's thought far enough ahead to where someone else is going to get to do things based on the precedent he's set. NDAA sounds great when it's used to stop an imminent attack! Not so much when it's used to disappear dissidents... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

  17. Yeah, most people forget how much they use their abdominal muscles for, well... everything, until they get them sliced through and have to wait for them to heal up... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  18. I was wondering if it was too soon to call, but I'm pretty sure we've found our King of the Internet... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  19. You don't have the option of choosing private over public in Canada? I was not aware of that, nor am I happy to hear it. That's messed up. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  20. Nah, I worked out a bit ago that you're a fellow card-carrying atheist - I never see you at meetings though? I just don't like singling out a single religion for their atrocity record, even if they've put more runs on the board in recent times. Any evil act committed in the name of of any religion is abhorrent to me, and there is nothing more dangerous than a man who truly believes he's right with god... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  21. The atrocities perpetrated in the name of your religion are infinitely more heinous than the atrocities perpetrated in the name of my religion!! So nyah!! You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  22. This thread should be useful to you. Turns out starting in your 30s generally puts you at the younger end of the beginners pool... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
  23. I guess it's about the way they're taught, too. My instructor had me do a complete stall on Stage 1, we fell backwards for maybe a second before I let the toggles up - quickly. The diving surge afterwards was interesting... During the debrief I asked what the point of doing the stall was, instructor pointed out the safety aspects, and why I needed to know how the canopy felt just before the stall so I could avoid it at low altitude. He then grinned and said it was also something to do for fun (with adequate height, of course). I guess my point is that because of the matter of fact way it was presented to me, I never saw a reason to be intimidated, just another piece of information to better help me understand how a canopy flies. 24. A rapist can be found not guilty for any host of reasons, none of which have any bearing his victim's injuries. If a rapist walks due to poor QA/QC on a DNA samples, does that mean his victim wasn't raped? No, it just means he wasn't convicted. There's a reason that juries find defendents "not guilty" as opposed to "innocent." and yet, the end result is supposed to be that the defendant is presumed innocent at this point. Which of course is bullshit - once accused of rape or child molestation, one can never be cleared in the public eye. Even with an acquittal, they will need to seek a new life elsewhere. The fact that some may in fact be guilty isn't enough to presume all of them are. And therein lies the rub. An accusation alone carries a stigma that, as you rightly point out, may well follow you for life. We have a legitimate fear of destroying a life with a false accusation, but I find it sad that because of this our system as it stands is weighted (for this crime) to avoid an accusation in the first place, rather than to trust the justice system to work. We seem to believe that the odds of a false accusation are so high, when the data say it's very low. It's a messy, awful situation.
