If people believe that a vaccine that protects against a disease will encourage risky behavior, why do they not believe that God forgiving sins will just encourage people to be even worse sinners? Don Holy crap! That's the best rebuttal I've heard yet! You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

Andy posts here too.More than one Andy. Does that mean they are all just different manifestations of the same Andy? Or should I pick one, believe that is the true Andy, and all the others are mythical? Should I hate people who respond to posts from the "wrong" Andy? Don I think you just pick the Andy that best matches your own pre-existing beliefs and biases, that HAS to be the one true Andy... That's how it works, right? Andy touches you with His noodly appendage. Ramen. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

If you support wefare recipient drug testing ...

In the subtext of damn near every post Ron has made here that references his faith. He's also made multiple references as to how he's made his retreat to his current community to await and observe the downfall of man as is prophesied as the end times. I don't have a specific issue with his faith. I have an issue with the condescension and trolling that has come with it... The Church had diddly-squat to do with marriages up until about 400-500 years ago. The concept of "Marriage" being an exclusively Christian ritual is an exceptionally recent one when viewed against the history of the religion as a whole. Not having a dig at you specifically, I just get a little frustrated when a very old ritual/institution gets hijacked by one group as exclusively theirs... Cleantech Crash (failure) on 60 Minutes
mistercwood replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
If I remember right from discussions with people who've done it, that's how we run it over here - what you don't use from your panels gets fed back into the grid. The power company then pays YOU a fee for the power you've fed in. If you're very smart about your usage and live in an area with excellent weather, it is in fact possible to turn a profit... The Most Terrifying Video You'll Ever See

Did you forward his message to the leaders of China, India, Pakistan or Russia? Can't speak for the last three, but last I checked China had directly approached our government for assistance in drafting their own emmissions reduction plans after seeing the work we'd done so far... Why not a credit check? Do you think a bank would want to hire someone who has no credit or someone who recently declared bankruptcy? The same would apply for someone seeking employment as a cashier at Walmart. The people "rolling over and taking it", are the people who understand the seriousness of working to provide a livelihood for themselves and their families. They also understand that a good job is not a "right". They may even hate their job, but they will keep it until they can advance to something else better. That will never compute for the entitlement crowd. Bravo, guys. You've both fallen hook, line and sinker for the now well-outdated ideal of the "American Dream", which died a quiet death decades ago yet you still think is up for grabs for anyone who works hard and keeps their nose clean. Most of the time, I don't see eye to eye with either of you. I still thought you were both brighter than that. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. You really are too funny. As for the rest of the nonsense, watch this and then get back to me. It might shed a different light on where and how I formed my opinion. (Its also pretty interesting). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbAmu3DXk5c I just watched ten minutes of that vid. Political propaganda from a politician? What a surprise... It only proves that politician's agenda, & yours. Which agenda? The "if the state is going to kill people, let's ensure it's as humane as possible" agenda? Yes, he shits all over the existing methods as not living up to acceptable standards. If you then watched more than ten minutes, you'd see he then identifies hypoxia (as previously listed by others here) as the perfect execution method - cheap, clean, easy to administer, and with no pain or distress for the subject. Viewed across its entirety, I don't believe the doco had a strong opinion for or against the DP at all. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Every person should be required to work a minimum of 1 year in some form of customer service i.e retail, hospitality, call centre etc, preferably just after finishing school. Just so we're clear here - these computers are most certainly not thinking. They are doing what computers do best, i.e. exactly what they're told. Democrats introduce bill to end the death penalty
mistercwood replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
convictions have been overturned (for real evidence, not just for flaw in process) later than that. In addition, my understanding* is that once the original conviction is recorded and sentence handed down, the appeals process is purely to either contest the sentence or to show a flaw in the original trial process - they can't actually directly try again to show the convict wasn't really the perpetrator. *garnered from watching many crime dramas, which likely makes me completely wrong. Others on here are better placed to confirm this. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
That would be really upsetting. Of course, they wouldn't have to do that, since we wouldn't knowingly hide him to begin with. You're most likely correct. My point is regarding US global drone policy though, not so much OBL. Your nation is executing military strikes on targets (some civilian) in countries you have made no formal declaration of war against. Which the administration effectively brags about. Considering the furore that would erupt in America if any other nation started doing the same thing, why is this considered acceptable? This. For those who don't have an issue with this, consider if the shoe was on the other foot: China announce they've located one of their citizens who's a dissident troublemaker who's been hiding from them in Mexico. But hey, it's ok, they sent in a drone and smoked that guy! There were a bunch of other people with him who were killed in the blast, but obviously if they were hanging with a known dissident (to China) then they were dissidents too and got what was coming to them. They're not at war with Mexico, just with Dissidents. If this actually played out in the real world, you'd lose your shit. Now explain how the US doing it is any more acceptable, especially given the country in my example has none of the protections for its citizens that the US does. I'll bite: The headline states "asian gangs". Implication being that the gangs who are of an asian variety are a blight on society, not that asians are. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly. -
Please do correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that kind of moot? My understanding was that the vast majority of Americans get their health insurance via their employer. But there aren't the same kind of unfair dismissal protections as say, I'm used to. So you end up with the following sequence happening very easily: Doc: Jim, you've got cancer. We'll need to start treatment right away. Next Day at work... Jim: Boss, I got cancer. I'l need some extra time off work for treatments. Sometime later... Boss: Sorry Jim, I gotta let you go. Budget cuts, you're not working the hours I need you to, blah blah blah some excuse that's barely justifiable but still legal. Soon after... Jim: I'd like to buy insurance please, I need to get treatment so I can get better and get back into the workforce Insurance Company: Seems you got cancer. We're either not covering you, or we're going to charge you so much you'll need a lottery win to cover the interest. As I said, I could be way off. But my understanding was that my scenario here was perfectly legal, and not necessarily uncommon. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.

GOP 'extremist movement' prompts NC candidate to switch to Democrat
mistercwood replied to ibx's topic in Speakers Corner
http://xkcd.com/1127/large/ A statistical approach, made all pretty and shit. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but that looks like a pretty damn big change in the ideological makeup of the GOP over the last 30 years. The Dems in the same period show a slight shift to the left in the Senate, and almost no change in the House. For the record, from past stuff this guy posts I don't believe he has a particular bias, he just really likes data. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. No it isn't. HTH Stumpy, what I wrote on the post was the following: “The statement that disease is a product of sin is correct but one has to understand that this statement in context within the Christian faith refers to the original sin of Adam in the beginning of time and not the person who is afflicted by the disease.” Please when quoting someone use the complete statement or phrase that they have made. The concept of Original Sin and how it came about is flawed from the start. Let's break the events down logically: 1. God says "See that tree? Don't eat its fruit, or you'll know the difference between good and evil" 2. Adam and Eve - "Sure thing Boss!" 3. Adam and Eve eat the fruit - this is perfectly fine because they are simply doing things. They have ZERO concept that going against God is a "bad thing" UNTIL they eat the fruit. Now they know. 4. God gets all huffy and kicks them out of Paradise. So we're left with 2 explanations. A. God is just being a dick and punishing them horribly for doing something they couldn't know they shouldn't do until after they'd done it. B. That part of Genesis (like most of Genesis, in fact) is about teaching boundaries and setting standards. The takeaway from the whole fruit thing is purely to set up a major rule - you do NOT go against what God says. Pretty sure the answer's B. Otherwise there's no dodging that at least at the outset, God was just a cranky old fart... You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
