  1. 4play 4nication Touch me here Doggie dreams If they are "large" skydivers: CG shift The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  2. Just confirmed Lewmonst and I will be the producers for the Boogie Video! Make sure you find one of us before you do anything that might damage flesh, bone, remove eyes or digits, bend any sort of metal, cause a malfunction, incite rage or vomiting in yourself or others, be the cause or means of attracting the attention of EMS, fire, or law-enforcement types, or otherwise be interesting to other skydivers. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  3. 99 years ago, today, two brothers broke a barrier. Nothing less than incredible, these brothers, without aid of formal education, computers, or even common sense others would insist - flew the first airplane. Two wrongs don't make a right, but two Wrights built an airplane! Thanks guys! The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  4. It's all about the video! Someone bring some sticks we can use for splints. Cactus branches don't work very well. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  5. Amen, Brother! The name for the Cross-Braced/Airlocked canopy will be exhaulted (as soon as Brian tells us all what it is!). Being the mad-scientist of canopies, he even made some hints he's got some more designs floating around in that brilliant brain of his. He's running the special for Instructors, again, so there is no excuse for those of you with ratings to NOT have the best (well, except that we are all broke and can't even afford to feed ourselves - but food is secondary!) The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  6. I'll take that as a compliment. A few of you know, I hope to be doing the production of the Eloy boogie. It may not be as good as the WFFC 2001 video, but then again - it might be even better. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  7. Avid is just smarter, actually. I don't know the details, save that Avid recognizes different types of avi files. miniDV is conventionally different than what this sounds like. I have seen the same scenario when avi's were exported back to tape in the "other" format, accidentally. The intention was to then capture the avi into Premiere for encoding with a Premiere specific plug-in. Premiere was not able to pick up the sound-track, but it was captured, using Avid. It'd be odd that a "master" (i.e. unedited raw camera footage) was somehow recorded in a different format. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  8. There are a number of threads on still camera recommendations, so I won't go into depth, here. I'm guessing we're still on digital stills. The jury is still out on the Minolta, but the Coolpix 885, 990, 995, and 5000 have all been used with good to very good success. High speed CF media (Lexar 12X and up) has given some gains in speed to the 990, 995, and 5000 camera frame rates. The 5000, with the Harbortronics remote release, and 128MB media is about idea for most of us (tandem/student video/stills). On the higher end, the D30 and D60 have performed exceptionally well, with stunning results from the D60. Coupled with a good web-based storefront for selling your stills, digital is definitely the long-term solution. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  9. I don't think it's wierd. Avid is far less troublesome than Premiere. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  10. The microdrive is not the best choice for skydiving. It uses "air-bearings" which can be fubared by rapid pressure changes. Get some compact flash media. They're available up to 1GB, and more expensive, but worth it for skydiving. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  11. I believe I can fly. I believe I can touch the sky. Wanna' come fly with me? The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  12. I have jumped the Vertical-Visions and the Bonehead mounts. I have the Vertical Dual Raptor, and test jumped the Bonehead mount at the WFFC. Of the two, I like the Bonehead composite, and the phallus can be interchanged with the phallus from the shue-vue. Jason at Vertical makes a very high quality product, but the Bell-vue is more comfortable, lighter, and has a bit more versatility. If you are planning to build one yourself, carbon fiber is likely not an option. The straightforward design of the Raptor would be easier to reproduce. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.

Be careful with that chart. There has been some contention on Blinc that chart may be innacurate. Use your sectionals, tower markings, and rangefinders. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  15. Did you ever get your A-license? Not that it is a real factor in your case (my opinion). Go through the FJC, spend plenty of time pulling handles. I'd recommend a level 2/3 for AFF, or PRCP's for S/L. If your released, stable, and altitude aware on your level 2/3, you'll probably do a level 4, and a level 7. On the S/L side, it'd be a stable clear-&-pull (after your PRCP's), and an Instructor supervised free-fall or two. Again, all of this' situational - just my recommendation. Lastly, STAY CURRENT! 16. We met in Quincy 2001. She came by to pick up a t-shirt. Eyes met and locked, just long enough to see through each other, but short enough to ask ourselves "What just happened?" I won't exaggerate. This happens to me with people, on occasion. It was just a sign that I needed to get to know this person. Over the next year, I casually look for other signs of this person in my world. Talk to people that know her, and just keep her on the shelf with other people I know I'll meet again, someday. Rantoul 2001: I arrive a couple of days before the Convention to set up my gear, install a server at Illicom for the web stream, and plan with the other Martini vidiots for the Convention. She's there early, too. And looking great! I even remember her name. Her Rodriguez name, which she never could remember. I should - I gave it to her, but she's surprised, nonetheless. We start talking, hanging-out with the video crew. It's difficult to get one-on-one, 'cause the guys are behaving like guys. No biggie - that's the way things are supposed to be. We do have a few good moments, where everyone stops talking and watches us, as they realize we've forgot they exist. I realize in these moments, she's my kind of person. It's not a romantic type thing - just a people type thing. I was at a point in my life where romance was not important. Knowing people and sharing with my friends was all I wanted/needed. I knew she would be a friend. I felt I knew she would be a friend a year ago, this just confirmed it. We spent time together over the next week, getting to know each other. We jumped together, packed together, partied together, and still did our own thing. It was still a friendship. One that felt years old. We would joke about "Convention Time" - how time can warp or stand still; that time spent there was multiplied for the rest of the world. We spent most of a day just telling our life stories, and many late nights explaining our beliefs and who we really are. Those hours gave me more than days and weeks and months spent with other people. An exceptional person. A passionate person. An adrenalin junkie. A brilliant teacher. A student of life. Spiritual in the same weird ways. Connected and understanding... Not to mention drop-dead sexy. I fought the urge to fall for her. Friendship, with someone like her, was much more important. Romance just didn't make sense. We parted, things unsaid, as we were both sure was best. I knew she had things to resolve back home, and I had too many things I wanted to see, too many places to go, and people to meet - to get involved with anyone. Countless e-mails and phone calls. It was supposed to get easier as time went by. I missed her more. I wanted just to see her, to slip into "Convention Time" and spend a few hours understanding. I dreamt of skydives with her. Eventually, I went to visit her. She had been having some bad days. I wanted to bring her some good days. Good days we had. We talked 'til the sun came up, and jumped out of airplanes. I won't say we picked up where we left off. We picked up in a different way. I had resolved we would be friends, and so did she. Somewhere, as she looked inside of me, and I was looking back at her, those barriers just melted away. It was pretty scary that someone could walk right through locked doors. When I realized I was falling in love with this woman - I was somewhat confused. I didn't want this to happen. It wasn't supposed to happen. I almost felt like I was crossing a line. Fortunately, she was crossing the line with me. Both scared, we pressed on. Eventually the fear went away. Paths and possibilities appeared before us. Hope and incomparable joy filled my life. I had been happy by myself. I was willing to accept what great things life had given me. Now, I have so much more. I hope each and every one of you can come to know such happiness. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  17. Definitely agree. Just to clarify (I got distracted) - renting would probably be more cost effective for just a few events. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  18. I'm gonna' wear out just the edge of this seat... Don't leave us hanging too long. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  19. The system originally built for the WFFC was less than $5000. There was actually more invested in parts/configurations that did not work well. The final configuration was good for very clear video and good audio (audio was secondary, of course). If you are looking for broadcast quality, the camera used would have to be upgraded, but the transmitter/reciever would work just fine. The system was lost in a house fire, and I haven't had the capital to rebuild it. Certainly not something you'd want to build for a one-off production, but if the demand was there, I'd consider building another. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  20. It was a Beaver. The deHavilland type, not the female type. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  21. Yes. How much do you want to spend? The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  22. Very nice picture of Mallory! If you're into the glamour shots kind of crap, there's a picture of her without a rig on, too. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  23. You'll hear no arguements here, on those notes. Keeping the boss happy is first priority. I also understand about the local video script. Wings can give a pretty cool pop-up. When I jumped with wings, I'd pop up as I orbited, starting below and in front, collapsing my wings as I passed above and behind, to drop in front and below where I started. I also got pretty good at a zero-loss barrel roll. It was much more work than with my freefly suit, but fun to do with wings. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  24. Very nicely put, Arlo. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  25. "I'll do a beach jump outta anything!" My favorite is jumping out of a hotel window for a beach jump. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
