I have been talking to the crew about 2003. We are trying to come up with something "special" just for you. Is there anything you haven't done yet? Be as kinky as you want - we'll shoot the footage. We can wait 'til the last day so you won't miss any jumping while you recover. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  2. Cutting the switch out would ruin the CamEye. ParaGear used to sell an indicator light that was powered by the LANC port. It has a sensor you tape over the tally light. When the camera is turned on, the indicator lights green, and when the tally light is on (recording), the light changes to red. It is a little more bothersome than the single plug-in connection of the CamEye, but may be what you're looking for. BTW, be sure to tape the tally sensor with two layers of black gaffers tape. The sensor is sensitive enough to give a false reading from the light that penetrates a single layer. This may also be a good solution for microMV flyers. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  3. 027 is my personal favorite. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  4. I'm in the same boat. Not sure what I do when I have wings. The only deplolyment I actually "think" about is w/Birdman suit. I remember in the early days, I made a conscious effort to make sure I didn't reach between my wing and body (pulling pilot chute through the wing), but never really paid attention to how I compensated for assymetric lift. I'd say this' another reason why flying should be pretty much instinctive before we strap a camera on our heads. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  5. I have been seeing less and less low speed films. I've heard reasons such as low demand (it seems that more people are shooting slide film than ever, just for the awesome color), and pains about the developers for really low speed films high-toxicity. Not sure if its some kind of workplace safety/liability problems, or disposal/enviro-issues sort of problems. It'll be interesting to see someone compare the new EOS super-megapixel camera at ISO50 compared to 35mm ISO50. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  6. This sounds like a very kewl idea. I'd like to take this opportunity to officially nominate B^2 (Betsy) as the "Official dropzone.com event coordinator and hostess." She did such a kickass job in Eloy. She and I had a nice conversation about this very sort of event. She was considering renaming the Eloy Holiday Boogie as an official "dropzone.com Boogie" next time around. She's the hostess with the mostess. Do I hear a second on this nomination?... 7. The problems with Premiere vary from system to system. The Intel 845 chipset has a few different problems, that seem to differ with different manufacturers. I have built some editing machines with the Intel branded 845 motherboard with zero problems. You may want to go with the 850 chipset, for a Pentium 4, or the 860 for the Xeon. When you get ready to build your new editing machine, PM me, and I'll try to help you build a trouble-free system. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  8. The key we should be looking for with DV25 is the inclusion of "WhiteCap" technology. It has true QoS capabilities and handles like-frequency interference much better than the standard protocols. WhiteCap is commonly referred to as 802.11e. The "e" is not a different standard than "a" or "b" - simply the same protocols made better. While "g" offers slightly higher speed potential (than "a"), it does not have the abilities to handle interference and QoS issues necessary for streaming video. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  9. It's definitely less consistent than wired Ethernet (as well as much slower). The 802.11a products offer more potential speed than the 802.11b, but it is even more sporadic in turnaround and ping times than the slower "b" - and has a shorter range. The difficulty with streaming data (such as Voice over IP and video or broadcast over IP) is in the sporadic/unpredictable performance of these devices. Most of this comes from bounced/echoed signals that comes with omnidirectional transmitters/recievers in the access points and wireless LAN cards. There are point-to-point transceivers that don't have this condition that work extremely well, but then you can't roam around the house with your laptop (as I am now). The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  10. You want to sit on the Governor's staff? I heard about a girl named Monica who sat on the Presidential staff. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  11. I generally prefer Avid, for stability and efficiency. There are some plug-ins for Premiere that I use, and it can be very potent in the proper environment. Studio is a nice package, with intuitive tools, and packaged with a Firewire card is a very good value. iMovie reigns supreme for user friendliness and ease of use. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  12. I'd be careful recommending Premiere. It has "issues" with some hardware and/or software. Download the trial version from Adobe and make sure it works well with your computer. It won't guarantee functionality in your environment, but if the trial version doesn't work, the full version will not, either. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  13. Good news for all of you new to video editing. I've just reviewed a FREE version of Avid's editing software. It is a heavily pared down version of DV Xpress, with miniDV functionality, two video and four audio track limits, but very functional. It will be a few months before it is released to the public, and the track limits may change a bit, as well as more limits on transitions. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  14. The 802.11x wireless protocols have very high latency issues. As such, they are generally unsuitable for any sort of streaming data or other services needing good QoS controls. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  15. Welcome to the family! The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  16. Not to hijack this thread from HH, but try to include names. It'll be useful to have a picture with a name for the Boogie Video. I plan to give a glimpse of the attendees, with their "Nick's" and I'd like to include as many as I can (especially of each of you in freefall). The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  17. I return home to find this! What a most excellent plug from the HH! 38 hours of driving to get there, and only 27.5 hours to drive back. Even a blizzard could not keep Lewmonst and I away from Eloy. I will be sorting footage for the next few weeks. I need pictures/descriptions of gear from everyone, so I can match names with faces for the video. I've got a special DZ.com section in mind, with cameos of the attendees and their names wherever possible. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  18. Everyone try to remain calm! The production had a few delays. The biggest one was, in fact, the credits list the WFFC was asked to provide immediately after the Convention. It's something that should have been done when names were fresh in peoples minds. The request was put below other priorities, and was only recently complete. It was the last hurdle before duplication, and videos should ship very soon. The DVD base encode is complete and "extras" are being added and chaptered. Please be patient, as a project of this size/caliber often relies on more people and businesses that we'd like, to produce the quality you are all entitled to. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  19. Another problem, I've seen in the past, is the ripcord can move. Doing DRCP/PRCP's with static-line progression, the canopy is almost always clear of the packing tray before the student can reach the ripcord. This makes the ripcord move around, so it's not exactly where they practiced to find it. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  20. I had one for about six months. The angle was too shallow to shoot tandems. I used the z-bracket to front mount a Coolpix 950, with the lens on the side toward the side-mount PC1. I mounted a 35mm still, also for a few jumps (three cameras), with very good results. It took about 15-20 jumps for the thermofit to "settle in" and become comfortable. It was extremely stable. I replaced the chin-cup bolt on one side with a nylon loop, and used it for a cutaway system. My biggest complaint was how the back sort of snaps together (not the strap that closes the helmet) is very difficult to seat properly (especially with gloves on). The laws of physics are strictly enforced.

  22. Sounds pretty cool. I especially like the idea that it quits playing the music to give altitude warnings. Then you'd know if your batteries are dead or you forgot to turn it on (no music). The laws of physics are strictly enforced.

I posted the Wright Brothers Anniversay on General Skydiving yesterday. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  24. Maybe god just created us a moment ago. With all of our memories, and history, the internet, y'know - everything - and none of us existed before 5 seconds ago. Maybe it's just an experiment of a huge super-computer in a lab somewhere in the "real" world, and we're all just a bunch of ones and zeros in this huge computer, and we'll cease to exist when the user switches from Sims to Final Fantasy. Maybe we're just here to worship our creator, and all of the other things we do are just a waste of precious time we should be using to sing songs and praises for our creator. Lots of possibilities out there. If Seti finds signals from another sentient race, maybe god designed that, too. He doesn't mention it in the bible (nor does any of the authors), but he forgot about fossils, too. Islam doesn't mention it, but if there is someone out there, Islam tells you to accept and love them. Buddah would seek to understand them. The cows wouldn't care if they did or did not drink milk or prefer steak over chicken. I'm with the cows on this one. We have found order in our chaos. We continue to unlock the secrets of the world around us and beyond. We have knowlege of where we come from. Our race is evolving right before our very eyes. Not just that we're getting taller, or smarter. We are becomming more aware. We are all connected. At our silvery umbilical cord or our relationship with "god" - we are in this together. Why should we decide before we have all of the evidence? The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
  25. Definitely! Firewire anything that might be used in the video, or as evidence. The laws of physics are strictly enforced.
