I quit when I was 32, and started when I was ~16. Maybe 15. Was NEVER less than a pack a day. Boy, do I wish I could have some of that money back. The money I saved in the last 2 years bought me a Bird-Man suit, FF pants, new camera helmet, new camera, Neptune altimeter, a bunch of odds and ends, and, um, oh yea, a brand spankin new container, complete with cool embroidery... Nice!! I'm going to try to put away $3 a day for just gear every day that I don't smoke 1 cigarette. Thanks!! Adjust for inflation too. I don't physically put the cash away anymore. My wife still smokes (grrr). When tax refund (we have lots of dids and deductions) I add up the amounts for not smoking the year while she was, and write myself out a check.

It balances out up here. thanks to the tax gods, the price of diesel around me is from 25 to 30 cents per gallon HIGHER than unleaded. So, if you get 30+mpg with gas, and 40 with diesel, is there really a difference? Well, yea, I guess, since every diesel car I've seen also costs more to buy than the gas counterpart. Yep, this morning at 6:30 a.m. I hit the 2 year/no smoking milestone!

grumble grumble grumble I feel your pain. I've all but given up trying to clear my report. I'm just staying as clean as i can for now, while the ones i can't get to change slowly roll off at 7 years. Making matter more difficult here though is WE Energies, the natural gas (heating, cooking, ect) supplier here. Everyone knows how bad the prices have spiked in the last few years, in some cases the bill is more than the income for the month. To top this off, they report to the credit bureau MONTHLY. If you are so much as late on a payment, or cannot pay the entire bill in full, BAM, bad shit on your report. Strong handed tactics, and many people are now just like me. I set up this house so that the ONLY thing I use gas for is heat. that gives me all summer to get the winter bill paid up, and it ususally takes that long. Credit scores blow, and with companies that jump the gun to post bad shit yet drag their feet to either correct or post positive marks, life gets difficult. It's your life, live it!
