+1 I moved to Houston from FL a year ago and I HATE THIS F'N PLACE!!! I've hated this place ever since I was little, but then again I grew up in Jersey and we're brought up to make fun of people wearing cowboy hats who like country. Don't get me wrong, there are some awfully nice people I've come across in TX and I hate to make a gross stereotype, but there are enough of the gun loving, bible thumping, red elephant backing, red neck like who drive trucks that are big enough to compensate for their other short comings...... and they don't even know how to drive or park said truck, that I am allowed to bring up that stereotype. ::deep breath:: pphheheeewwww.... I'm glad I got all that out! Like I said... there are lots of nice people here I'm sure, but the stereotypical texan ones I can't stand! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

I love my Tri. You'll hear a lot of people bash them, but it opens great, flies great, but is a total bitch to pack. I've been told that they get different batches of fabric in to do the canopies, and mine is EXTRA slippery. Everybody that has tried to pack it comments on the fabric difference and how slippery it is. I think I just got unlucky in that respect, but other than that it flies, flares, and opens like a dream.

where to go for christmas and new year ??
LyraM45 replied to sky-pimp's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
After living in FL for the last five years and touring all of the DZ parties, I can tell you in my opinion that ZHILLS is the way to go. I have such a blast at that place for their holiday shinnanigans that I can't even describe it. The party on NY eve is awesome. I moved to Houston this year, so I won't be able to make it total bummer!!!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :) -
Put me in this corner too!! A few years ago I wrote a blog about how GWB was full of shit, there were no WMD's, and he was using it as an excuse to finish Daddy's war and while he's at his little personal game killing thousands of American soldiers in the process. I also stated we should have never been in Iraq, and all those young troops, some my friends, signed up to go to war to fight Osama after 9/11 and then they find out they are going to Iraq to do something that has nothing to do with the massive attack that just killed thousands of people in NY. And the conservatives, republicans, and war backers say the morale was low because of the liberal media... phhbbtt! For this, I was called things such as UNPATRIOTIC, MILITARY HATER, UNAMERICAN, etc. And now look, everybody else is seeing the light! I guess it's not so "unpatriotic" anymore, huh? That can be highly debated and is unproven, hence why it has no place being the sole reason why factual law should state that gay people can't marry. God creating this or that should have nothing to do with a law giving one person one right but the other can't have it. Who are you to call it "the right thing." This too can be highly debated. Whether its right or wrong, everybody should still be entitled to that same right or wrong. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Thats right.... what has happened to freedom of speech and freedom to do what everybody else does or get the same rights that everybody else gets??? Why can't people decide for themselves who they want to get married to?? Why must the religious community feel like they are obligated to police who gets what rights? You're right, it is an individual right to do what you want, within law, and there is no legal reason why you shouldn't be able to marry the person you want to despite if their purple, blue, black, man, woman, handicapped, Jewish, Muslim, etc, etc. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... BBWWAAAHAHAHAHA.....HAHAHAHAHAHA.... Oh.... wait a second..... BWWAAHAHAHAHAHA. But thats what people do when they don't have a solid leg to stand on to factually and intelligently back up their argument, but still believe that their OPINION is right. Again, where are you getting this information from? What articles can you produce that have him loudly proclaiming how he is such a devout christian becuase he sat in church every sunday? Somehow in your head you've convinced yourself that he shouted from the roof tops in every rally, news interview, TV ad, or anything else surrounding his campaign that all he ever did was talk about being a good christian and going to church every sunday. He didn't; the only time it was mentioned was mostly in response to people accusing him of being a muslim or maybe around the Rev. Wright stuff. Until you produce something to back up another one of your shit stirring arguments with no proof, then I say we just drop it. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Collegiates at Spaceland - Anyone going?
LyraM45 replied to katiebear21's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Wow!!!! This is great news!!!! seriously, this has made my day! I'm not great with reading all those competition manuals, so it's no suprise that I misunderstood the 3 criteria having to be all 3 to be ineligable. Well, in that case then.... I'm a grad student at Embry Riddle through their online program. Anybody looking for a pick up for freeflying or RW, please send me a PM. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I dig it. Are you getting the wings vision? I just got a vision and it's pretty comfy with the articulation and back/leg foam padding on it. Personally, I would go with a hacky or a pud for your handle, and maybe loose the white unless you're OK with having a rig that is going to look dirty (even if you have pristine landings... just traveling with it will make it look dingy.) I went with silver/blue/charcoal on mine. The silver is pretty light, but not as light as the white. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Collegiates at Spaceland - Anyone going?
LyraM45 replied to katiebear21's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I was so excited because I just got back into school for my masters and thought I could compete. I competed in 06' during my undergrad while I was in FL, and I am now in houston for my job, and thought to myself, "wow... how perfect collegiates has worked out for me again location-wise!" wrong Can't compete if you're 25 and up, AND have to be an undergrad. Don't know why I remembered something about grad students being able to do it. But, anywho... since I'm local (god, I shudder when I say that. Can't stand Texas and miss Florida so much!) I'll drop by to have a few beers, make a few jumps, and enjoy the festivities. Wish I could head back to the hills though for new years. I'm stuck working an overnight shift on New Years Eve. Best says who??? I know plenty of gay couples that have raised children who grow up to do something great with themselves, or graduate first in their class at Harvard or something. The chances of them turning out good or bad is the same whether they had two mommies, daddies, or one of each. Is it best for a family to stay together that has an alcoholic father, a mother who works 24/7, but is one man one woman?? Is that best over a gay couple who are both educated, upper middle class professionals who have time to devote to that child that wasn't getting the proper attention in the one man/woman situation? That is just an example to show how "whats best for families," rest on a lot more than whether its just one man and one woman. (my example doesn't mean that all one man one woman families are like the scenario above, just as the gay couple may not be like the scenario above. They can be interchangable because people are people, and could be proper or inproper for a family no matter what gender, race, creed, or sexual orientation, but rather on a case by case bases if that person should be caring for children or having a family.) Everytime I get home from a boogie I feel like popping right on to dz.com and starting a post like this, but I get back to work the next day and then I forget about it, but it's something that really irritates the crap out of me. Bottom line: THE DROPZONE IS NOT A BABY SITTING SERVICE NOR A DAYCARE FACILITY!!!!!!! Do not bring your kids and let them run around all over the place while you jump and have fun. If you're going to skydive, arrange a baby sitter for the day and thats that. A supervised child on the dz, as one poster said walks around with a step mom or your significant other, is perfectly fine. I'm sure that adult is going to make sure they aren't pulling any handles out of curiousity or stepping all over everybodies lines. What really gets me is when I see these kids running around the dz at the after hours boogie party. One time a guy was complaining about a topless girl running around at a boogie party because his kid was there. I'm sorry, but the kids shouldn't be around at midnight with a bunch of intoxicated adults doing adult things anyway. Get a baby sitter, and if you don't want to drop the kids off at a proper daycare or a babysitter for whatever reasons, then you'll have to wait to have fun on another day when your ready to do that. Atmosphere wise there are a lot of adult things going on at the dz, but even more so its a safety thing too where a curious child may do something like pull that little metal handle out a little bit because it looks interesting, and then oopps-- you have your reserve pop right open as your exiting off the step for that next load. Definitely not cool... Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Right now the person selling the suit is a female who's has been flying the suit recently, and from what I gather if anything it seems it might be a little big on her up top vs. the bottom, so I have a feeling the hips might up being a little bit of an issue. (but I hope not because you're 100% right, its not worth it to add fabric.) This is the part I'll be gambling on the most. I will definitely seek the help of a rigger, and if it's something that is a little more complicated, even seek out the help of the original manufacturer. I had a feeling I shouldn't trust regular tailors, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the input and any other suggestions to come! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... Hi, guys. I wasn't sure to post this in general questions or gear/rigging, but I was wondering if anybody has any experience doing alterations to a freefly suit? I am looking at purchasing a suit second hand by Ouragan, that is custom made for somebody 1" taller than me, and 5-10lbs heavier than me. Doesn't sound too bad, but the suit was originally made for a male, and I am a female. What worries me is the extra inch in length and maybe differences in the hip/bust area. (but I'm thinking the 5-10 lb weight difference might take care of that and if anything I'll have to take it in to fit.) I would have to take a shot and just go all or nothing with the suit purchase since it's out of the country and I can't try it on. Is it easy to get alterations done on a good suit like that? If so, am I better off getting it done at an alterations shop that knows nothing about skydiving suits, or better off sending it to the original manufacturer. (which I thought we be a little weird since I didn't buy the suit from them originally and don't want to offend them somehow.) Any input you guys can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

WTH, dude? Nobody is saying anything about Polygamy and being against it and your ramming it down everybody's throat. The difference with your above statement is that when there is a "child at risk," in terms of the polygamy situation it means there really is a child PHYSICALLY at risk when there is a child involved (and unfortunately that happens in Polygamy). "Child at risk," in terms of homosexuality are mostly very church going folk who are worried about their prude kids hearing/seeing/being subjected to a society where gay people can be married and goes against everything they are trying to brain wash their kids into believing. Their child is in NO physical danger what so ever. The fact that you're even putting these situations on the same level of comparison makes me shudder at how out of touch you must really be. Edited to add-- I have no problems with one adult doing whatever they want with another adult. Thats the whole point of this thread and prop 8. Now when it comes to underage kids, then that's wrong and I hope you see the difference. If the TX situation involved only consenting adults, then I think going in there with guns blazing might have been a bad choice (though I see where they came from in their actions when they thought it was children involved). If you think you're in "control," you should take a ride over to the tunnel since your in Carolina and do some flying. Even in that big tunnel you'll come out bruised and battered because you're so in "control." (Not even talking sitflying, probably just from flying on your belly, dude.) Seriously... go do a few coach jumps with somebody flying base straight down the tube or go do some tunnel time and let me know how straight down the tube and in control you were. Trust me, you'll be very humbled! If you're not going to do either of those things in the near future, at least stick to doing solos for a long time and DO NOT backslide/forwardslide/track up and down jump run; take a good look before you open please!!!!
