  1. Liberty University bans College Dems Posted: 08:16 PM ET (CNN) – Liberty University, the evangelical school in Virginia founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, is drawing heat Friday for its decision to revoke recognition of the College Democrats' chapter on campus. According to the Lynchburg News & Advance, the school decided a week ago the organization "stood against the moral principles" held by the school and therefore could no longer be sanctioned. Maria Childress, the staff adviser to the club, told the paper the school — which opposes abortion rights and gay marriage — had issues with the Democratic Party platform. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/ ********************************************************* I usually don't go starting threads in SC too often, but as a citizen of this country, I am wondering if I am the only person disturbed by this. I don't care if you're democrat, republican, black, white, purple, pink, gay, straight, single, married, or what religion you are, I don't think it's right to throw a peaceful legal student group that is nationally recognized off of campus no matter what the schools affiliation is. Sure, it's a private institution and technically they can do what they wish, but I went to a private school as well and something like this would NEVER happen. Is anybody else pulling a "WTF, mate?" on this one, or is it just me? Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  2. SWEET!!! I was getting ready to buy plane tickets to come home and see the family that weekend anyway!! Works out nice... Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  3. dude... I'm at work right now (I'm a meteorologist) and just showed this to all my my co-workers. We are cracking up!!!!! Seriously!!!! This has so made my day!!!! I wish I could just send this link to my clients for their forecasts instead of writing them!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  4. Sheets? What are you up in northwestern PA or something? Man.... I don't know about sheets, but WAWA coffee is where its at!!!!! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

    Peace out

  6. Did I just read this right? You're talking about being on fronts with 50 jumps? On a 175?? I haven't researched any of your old posts, but to me I first read this and thought "troll" or you were just really trying for a laugh. You're already decently loaded for somebody with 50 jumps on your 175. Stay where you are, downsize appropriately, and hopefully you won't end up battered or broken by doing it the more conservative way. (and the right way, IMHO, which I know doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.) I just pray to God, as I've said in other posts in similar topics here over the years, that if you already have made the decision in your head that you're going with a 135, that you don't kill anybody else in the process. No bueno, dude. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  7. Bingo-- you brought up exactly what I was going to post about. I got the low profile D-ring on my new wings last year, and it's great! Definitely takes care of the "snag hazard" everybody talks about as their excuse for getting soft pad handle. For me... I would rather look uncool and be unbroken at the same time. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  8. +1 .... These people just don't see it, but down the road they will be looked at just as people who are against interracial marriage and equal rights among all races are today. They spew the same exact jargon that people tried to throw out back in the day when blacks wanted the same freedoms that whites wanted. It is such a simple concept-- Equal rights for ALL. Thats what our law states. Leave the bible and religion out of law and basic rights and freedoms. Sometimes I still can't believe that we are living in 2009 and injustices like this one still occur. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  9. One of the things I've always hated about Tx was how proud they are of their state; No other state matters, everybody else is stupid, and they believe it should be their own "United States of Texas." (Not that I'm saying every single Texan is like this, but obviously enough are to make a stereotype.....and the funniest part is the people who are the hardest core about it have never even left or traveled out of the state, let alone visit another country to see how life is really like in comparison!) So, when I heard the comments from gov. Perry, I thought for sure that it was a good excuse for all these guys to finally get what they want, but the funny thing is-- it made him a laughing stock of the state. Even the hard core republicans and former military guys that I work with were all laughing at him and said they now disown him as their governor. So, I've been living in TX for the past 1.5 years (unfortunately), and I for sure answered to a more nation allegiance. I'm from Jersey, and even if I had to answer being from Jersey, it would be nation allegiance. (which says a lot because Jersey people are proud people too... but I don't have my head far enough up my ass to believe it should be the United States of New Jersey). 10. check out www.collegeskydiving.com Ben Lee set up that sight and will help you out with all of your collegiate club start up troubles. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  11. I was looking through old posts to see what happened to this website, but it looks like it is no more. I never saw an operational website, so I am not sure exactly what was offered. I'm an Aviation Meteorologist as well as a jumper, so this sparks my interest. Does anybody else see the community getting use out of a similar website and/or services? I guess I should pose this question mostly to DZO's/managers/pilots who would be looking at and subscribing to all this information. The reason why I ask is, lets face it, the information is already scattered all over the web out there for upper air forecasts, model soundings, model ensembles, or just plain jane forecasts for the everyday person through NWS or wunderground.com, and people are capable of going online and piecing all of this information together themselves. So, with that, I don't know if its worth it to start a similar service. Skydivingweather.com obviously didn't survive, so maybe its not worth that much to the community with everything else out there for people to use. Any thoughts? 12. Well, I wasn't sure if I wanted to say "Probably at work and now they're unemployed" or "Probably at work where they should be," so I left it open...the latter is probably more accurate. Ahem... yes, and why exactly are they unemployed now? Maybe it has something to do with the last 8 years of repubs helping to drive this economy and unemployment rate to where it is now, making the original statement that was supposed to be offensive to democrats even funnier. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  13. I'm so confused in all of this... where were these republicans and their demonstrations against unnecessary gov't spending when Bush was in office??? They act like it just started happening when Obama took office! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  14. God, Selwyn.... I miss you and your funnies. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  15. I don't care if you have 100 jumps or you have 1 million jumps. Even a good student should be able to spot what is safe and not safe right off the bat. (and if they can't, then maybe they shouldn't be jumping) Its not like there is grey area here where somebody with X-amount of jumps might be able to discern if its legal (or safe) or not. When it comes to Rules and Regs, either you're breaking them or you aren't. Even somebody who knows a little bit about aviation and can pull out a 2009 FAR/AIM with ZERO skydives can tell you some of these things. The guy never said that this DZ was a menace to jumpers. Quite the opposite actually-- were you reading any of his posts where he kept repeating that this DZ is more than fine for licensed jumpers? And actually, I don't think he sounds pissed of at all, but rather concerned; just as I would be in his shoes. Its each of our duties to bring stuff like this to the table when its going down. If I saw a student go in at a DZ under a reserve canopy that was too small or an ADD that didn't work properly and either caused his death or may have prevented it in another situation-- and if I knew about all of that and never said anything??? Could you sleep at night knowing that that death could have been prevented if brothers and sisters in the sport stood up and said something about the causes of that fatality sooner??? There's no judgment being passed here. He's just stating what is being practiced at this DZ, and if that practice happens to be breaking BSR's or FAA regs, then that is that and the fault rests solely on the business executing those practices. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  16. BINGO! Hit it right on the head. Even if the law came down tomorrow that marriage is just a term deeming a type of religious civil union (civil union now being the word that defines what marriage use to mean in law), religious conservatives will still go nuts because it's immoral to them and they believe gays have no right sharing a home together or adopting and raising children together. So, make it the most sensible law to a free nation, but its still against "gods law" to them and they'll go nuts. (even though gods law should have absolutely nothing to do with actual law, hence why this should be squashed easy with separation of church/state. I don't understand how this has all gone on for this long in this country!) Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  17. I see racism is still alive and kicking in the good ol' US of A. And, of course, comparing Bush to a chimp was just good wholesome fun... Apples and oranges here. Comparing Bush to a chimp insults his intelligence and has nothing to do with his race (for the most part anyway... though he does have striking similarities to a chimp in his facial features, and I don't mean that as an insult. Just is.). Even if the OP of the comment didn't mean that to be taken with racist context, it comes with the territory when using it in any form similar since "ape," or "monkey," has been used so frequently in derogatory comments towards African Americans. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  18. Talk to TK, or Paul, or anybody else over at Zhills who knows you and knows what they're talking about. Seriously.... just buy them a beer at the bar and ask the exact questions you're asking on here and you'll get great answers. Are they going to be exactly what you're looking to hear?? Probably not. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  19. Head out out to the Hills. Can't go wrong at that place! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  20. Professional liar some like to call me, but I like to refer to myself as a meteorologist every now and then when I get the chance. My undergrad was in Aviation Meteorology, and now I do part 125, 135, and 91 flight planning and weather with a company in Houston for private business gen. aviation clients. (all the people you're so pissed off at for flying their jets... yea, pay my salary. ) I just became a back up supervisor in the department, so I'm very recently getting on the big girl britches! Lets just say I can write a TAF like it's going out of style! I'm the biggest aviation and weather nerd, so I guess you can say I like my job! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  21. I was working a mid shift last night and came in to work hearing all the commotion associated with the accident. I pulled up some observations at RJAA as soon as I heard what happened, and at the time of their arrival it looked like winds from 350 around 25 or 30 kts, gusts as high as 47 kts. Their approach runway was 16L/34R, the longer of the two operational runways, which means their winds were not cross winded so much, and there really wasn't much directional shear as the news is continually reporting. Now, that doesn't mean they weren't effect by speed shear. I think this looks all too familiar of that accident back at KEWR a few years back. Just my .02 as a weather forecaster/flight planner on duty last night looking at everything. Condolences to all involved. Sad day, indeed. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  22. I usually don't chime in on the WS forum that often since I'm not a WS'er, but I used to work at a tunnel and I can tell you from being in very similar shoes to yours that you should still follow all BSR's when it comes to anything in the sport. Yea, you can fly your balls off for somebody with 30 jumps, but does that mean you can follow a tandem out? Probably shouldn't. Do a wingsuit jump? Probably not. Be on a 100 way record head down jump? Probably not. The tunnel does not substitute for the experience that comes with the actual skydives. The tunnel does not enhance your situational awareness from all aspects; IE: emergency procedures, gear checks, etc. You need to be so familiar with your gear, not just your flying, that you can get through any procedure in your sleep like its second nature. Once you have that experience, which the USPA has found to be around 200 skydives within the year, then you should be able to master those procedures with the added, and sometimes overwhelming, obsticle of a wingsuit. When you think about things like this, don't just think about it for yourself and for your safety, but instead do it for the safety of everybody else on the load with you that took the time to follow the rules and BSR's that you could possibly kill because you're pulling a stunt with your "mad skillz." Have you searched the incidents forum yet for 100 jump wonder accidents (wingsuit and other accidents too)? Might be humbling moment or two if you did that before you make any decisions in the future.... Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
  23. When's the last time on the news you heard of people with joints or illegal immigrants from mexico running around campus killing people???? Illegal drugs and illegal immigrants kill a LOT of people. Where have you been? If the law is to be upheld, then you should call the police for all illegal activity, and not just cherry-pick only one that you're most paranoid about. You're comparing apples with oranges here. Yea, I am sure that illegal drugs and illegal immigrants kill a LOT of people. Nobody is denying that. But what we're talking about here was associated with life/culture on a college campus and the current events as such on college campuses. So my original statement stands-- it's (huge majority) not the illegal immigrants and stoner hippy kids running around killing people that you see on the news with campus violence. Statistical fact that is not up for much debate. Does that mean that there are no incidents involving this type? No. But makes the point why prof's are on their toes over one thing and not the other. Does that make it legal to cherry pick one thing over the other? No, but it's human nature to protect yourself and your students from things like gun violence that in recent years has become a huge problem on campuses; trumping things like kids sneaking off to the back parking lot of a dorm to smoke a joint and then eat a bunch of doritos. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

  25. I grew up a little rug rat running around the back paddocks of Atlantic City Race Track, Deleware Park, and Philadelphia Park. My dad is a thoroughbred trainer, and I went ahead and got my ticket when I was 19, but mostly to help out with some scholarships that made me eligable through the NTRA with. Am I addicted to the races? Not so much, but I do enjoy the track since it reminds me of being a little girl with daddy at work.
