Doesn't matter so much if nobody has to wear a seat belt on the plane. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

I was drawing the comparison because a fine that high is typical of a scheduled airline with much higher revenues than your typical weekend DZO. A fine this high is closer to a death blow, not a penalty. You really should consider decaf. The FAA does not have a different pay fee scale to differentiate a major airline from a joe shmo running his cessna to take people up for city skyline tours. When you take somebody up for hire, no matter how big or small, you are subject to the SAME rules and regs; SAME fines. Lives on a mom and pop shop plane are not less valuable than those on a major airline carrier. The mom and pop shop operator is WELL aware of the risks if they choose to have a pair of balls big enough to test the waters with breaking FAA rules/regs. This is no surprise. Trust me. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

This is one of the points that is trying to be made here-- you shouldn't HAVE to know the ins, outs, and every nook and cranny of the mx records of your jump plane, or commercial airplane you take, etc, etc. Because there are FAA rules/regs for business to follow you have faith that the owner/operator responsible for that upkeep is doing his or her duty to be on par with everything. And I'm sure we'll hear more about it after FAA makes it a point to visit more DZ's, which is another point trying to be made in this thread-- huge spotlight is going to be put on DZ's and operating aircraft. Not a bad thing, obviously, since people should be on top of it and not afraid of the FAA coming around to take a peak, but not good to call negative attention to the sport when it gets enough of it to begin with. PS-- I think most of the people commenting here have been at and jumped at Lodi. Have you? Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
-
All because there is less moisture in the air does NOT make it right to neglect FAR's and safety suggestions. IMO, there is zero argument or excuse when debating deliberate neglect of FAA rules/regs. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

I definitely hear you with all of that. BUT, when it comes down to it and you guys have to do what you gotta do, then at least you have other options. You may not think they are as good for whatever reasons, but at least they are there. Just think of it this way-- you would be much worse off if there were NOT any other DZ's in the area. Then you really would be truly screwed. Try to think of the bright side! FWIW, I have a feeling Bill will change his mind.... just a hunch! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

I think Byron is $17. I hashed through the same thing when I first started jumping out in the Bay Area and honestly the $2 difference is nothing in the grand scheme of things compared to other jump tickets in the country around $25! *edited to add-- I'm just trying to say all hope is not lost for wingsuiting in the Bay Area. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
-
Why would you be done? I think there are quite a few DZ's in the area you could jump wingsuits at (Byron, Davis, etc.). Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

I was forecasting for San Fran international at the time and saw the blast go up on our webcam-- NUTS!! It looked like a volcano was going off right next to the airport! The smoke was so thick blowing right over the approach that we had to go to instrument arrival rates. My thoughts are definitely with all of the people impacted in that area-- definitely looks bad. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

I know this has been beaten like a dead horse on these forums recently when posts exactly like this come up, but what you're saying is you're OK with the majority voting on the rights of a minority? You are OK with voters saying that blacks aren't allowed in the same school or at the same water fountain? Or that women were a lesser class to men and weren't allowed to do a lot of the same things they were, like vote?? I don't know where you went to school, but I fondly remember in grade school being taught that this is EXACTLY how our system is supposed to work. I bet you learned the correct use of quotation marks too. Hey... right in my sig line that I make no claim to be good at grammar, punctuation, and the like! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

You act like this guy took rights away from somebody. He upheld the law and made sure minority is GIVEN the rights the majority tried to vote away. If my rights could be next to be increased somehow, then yea-- bring it on! Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Agreed... However... As opposed to CNN or MSNBCs bias? I don't know about MSNBC, but for shits and grins I watched Fox News the other day for an hour and it was an Obama smashing session. Everything and any little thing-- and they still don't call him President Obama. Not even Mr. Obama anymore. I heard him called 'the anointed one!!' LMFAO... you've got to be kidding me-- did CNN ever do anything like that with Bush? No, at the end of the day they report NEWS. Actually, not one second of the hour I watched Fox had any news in it. At least CNN has news stories that stretch all over the globe! I definitely would NOT equate Fox News bias to any bias CNN might have. Two completely different leagues, IMO. Sorry to hijack thread topic but I just don't think these two compare when talking about levels of bias. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Wings owners, lend me your ears and opinions.
LyraM45 replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Gear and Rigging
I've always thought the opposite was true. On a rig larger than your hips/back, the laterals and backpad make a 'corner' and there's nothing touching your body in that corner. The cut in laterals lets the harness stay close to your body, and the rig hang out where it needs to. If your rig is smaller than your hips/back, the laterals have to wrap around your hips to get to the backpad, so there's no 'corner', and no place where the rig or harness is not in contact with your body. The cut in laterals make a HUGE difference. Mine were originally too long and had to have them sent back to wings to get taken in a inch, so essentially it was like jumping without them at first. After I got them taken in-- WOW! What a difference. That rig doesn't go anywhere and it fits my body curves/back like a glove. I also have the back padding and spacer foam and that was also worth every penny. The stainless-- meh, I have it but I could do without it honestly. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :) -
Ignorant bigoted assholes voted in favor of keeping the laws against inter-racial marriage in effect in California in the sixties. Fortunately, "an individual wearing a black robe" found that to be unconstitutional, even though the proposition passed by a fair margin. Ignorant bigoted assholes in many southern states voted to keep laws that sustained the "seperate but equal" treatment of non-whites. Fortunately, "an individual wearing a black robe" found that to be unconstitutional, even though the laws were very popular among the voters and passed by a wide margin. Ignorant bigoted assholes fought long and hard to prevent women from having the right to vote. It took until 1920 for women to get the right to vote. Ignorant bigoted assholes fought long and hard to prevent unmarried adult women from owning property in their own names. It wasn't until the mid-sixties that these laws were overturned by "an individual wearing a black robe". The laws were very popular among the voters. In each of the cases cited above, all sorts of bullshit justifications were used to deny basic civil rights to a group. The most offensive justifications by far is the biblical crap spewed by the religious zealots. Denying basic civil rights on the basis of a vote is 100% wrong. You folks would know better, if you really understood what this country is supposed to stand for. Well said!! All the people fighting against equal rights for gays do not realize they are going to take a place in history with all the other bigots mentioned above and be looked upon with the same disdain when future generations reflect back on this time. This case will make it to the SCOTUS and hopefully, as all the posters above have highlighted, our system of checks and balances will be upheld and the rights of the minority will not be trampled by the majority. It's what these people in black robes are there to make sure doesn't happen. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Definitely Liquid Sky. I've had suits from quite a few companies and Julio's are the best hands down! (but to each their own-- you might like something else for other reasons) Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

Shirley Sherrod shafted by the Right (and Left)
LyraM45 replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
Quote: "The NAACP has retracted its initial statement condemning those comments and says they were "snookered." They are calling for the administration to reconsider Sherrod's ouster."Maybe the NAACP should also reconsider its knee-jerk racism-bashing of the Tea Party because of the utterances of just one attendee. I don't think it's that they were called a racist organization, but rather they have quite a few racist people that show up to the events saying inappropriate things and holding inappropriate signs, and it's tolerated (and sometimes celebrated) rather than asking those people to leave or even giving them the feeling that they aren't welcome. I think they've been more than clear saying they are not calling the TP as a whole a racist organization, but rather there are racist elements that they don't go out of their way to shoo away at events. I don't think that is knee jerk at all considering that it's true based on the signage present at rallies alone. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :) -
Supreme Court rules against college Christian group's ban on gays
LyraM45 replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
This is pretty cut and dry IMO. My school and any other school with friends I know went to would have done the same thing. I went through this a little when I started the skydiving club at my school. It couldn't be limited to just people who skydive. We welcomed wuffo enthusiasts who loved the idea of it but honestly would never jump out of an airplane in their entire lives. If I said "no...club only open to people who at least want to make one jump," then I wouldn't have been sanctioned as the Florida Tech Skydiving Club with the school's stamp/endorsement and funding that came with it. I could then still have a skydiving club on campus, but we would definitely not been entitled to any funding and the right to advertise ourselves as "The Florida Tech Skydiving Club." I went to a private school and technically they can do whatever they want, but state schools in particular have to be equal opportunity when it comes to clubs and funding. If these kids want to have an exclusive club on campus, then go ahead, but I just don't think they should be entitled to funding if that is the road they want to take. Why do you keep posting this bullshit when it's been shown, repeatedly, to be false? Exactly. And same goes for the million emails that get spread around and bajillion face book statuses I see that just spread COMPLETE BULLSHIT about administration affairs, Obama, Biden, etc, etc. Independent fact checking site is a mans best friend. Please use it before you blindly put up a facebook status or a forum post just because some people love to grasp on to anything negative that can possibly get their hands on (damned if it's true or not) just because they want to further the kicking and screaming and whining that their guy is not in office. When in doubt or without any actual material to back up the claims of why one does not like the current president, then make stuff up! Brilliant idea! Sorry, I don't mean to go off on the tangent but lately I've seen it happen more and more and it's starting to get a little old. More on topic is the mention of first lady staffers-- see the snopes article posted earlier but in case you need it again: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/firstlady.asp Michelle Obama definitely does not have a first ever unprecedented amount of staffers! UK: Preacher arrested for saying homosexuality is a sin
LyraM45 replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
+1... I may not agree with what the guy said, but he has a right to say it just like I have a right to say something that he would equally disagree with. It's only fair. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :) -
Wow, who knew that they had a landing strip for AF1 on the rim of the canyon and that time was so critical that she couldn't change? Oh, yeah... I don't care if she had time or not. She probably had plenty of time. This is 2010 and I think most people are probably not so offended by shorts and this is the case of a lot of conservatives just looking for something to buzz about. Personally I like the fact that it shows that they are no different from the average family while on vacation. Same thing with movie stars when people expect them to be so upkept every second that they are out in public. I like seeing them with little/no make up out in public every once in a while. It's a reminder that they are normal human beings just like the rest of us! **edited to add-- as much like the rest of us in terms of clothing on vacation. Not that any of us are taking airforce 1 as a ride to get anywhere! lol Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

And they were returning to Phoenix from the Grand Canyon doing outdoor activities. Not deplaning to meet some foreign president or the pope! She got flack for showing her arms last year too. This will become a non story just as quickly as that did. I don't think it's disrespectful at all in the scenario she was deplaning. Think about recent first ladies-- older women just aren't the short wearing type a lot of the times. Michelle Obama is young and in shape... I would expect a woman her age to be dressing in shorts and hiking shoes if they are out in the grand canyon or doing outdoors stuff with the family for the day, first lady or not! I wonder if Fox ever did this for Bush. Holy hell they would have needed an hour long segment for his first term alone! BUT, they probably didn't. So... back to the thread. Wow - No comment on the current material and stuck in the past. Nice.

I wonder if Fox ever did this for Bush. Holy hell they would have needed an hour long segment for his first term alone! BUT, they probably didn't. So... back to the thread. yep...the ol "but Bush" arguement! That has lost it's legs..BUSH DOESN'T MATTER ANYMORE, HE IS NOT PRESIDENT! why can't the obamabots get past that? Ha! I wouldn't call myself an Obamabot. Quite the contrary, the reason I asked the question if Fox had done is for Bush is because I am INDEPENDENT and would like to see it done for both sides! I'm sure CNN has run "bloopers" for Bush and past presidents, but I've also seen them run gaffes for Obama AND Biden. I just have a little bit more respect when a network can poke fun all around and NOT just as one side. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)

New gear, did I make a good choice? (your opinion)
LyraM45 replied to quadrevium's topic in Gear and Rigging
Or you wait and rent some gear and downsize smart instead of buying gear right away to "grow" into... you'll be growing into a cast after you femur. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :) -
I had a few issues when I was jumping over there one summer, particularly at Hib. I had already been jumping at Langar for a month and when I got to Hib they wanted me to do a cat 8 and cat something or other else (X point freefly, X point 5 or 8 way jump, etc, etc.). After an hour of going over all my stuff they let me go. If I remember correctly you have to have a cypres too, so I would double check on that one before you head over and don't have a cypres. Apologies for the spelling (and grammar).... I got a B.S, not a B.A. :)
